Abstract:Single or multiple delamination cracks have been found frequently in test specimens and full size test pipes of X70 pipeline steel. The delamination cracks will influence the stress and strain distribution of the crack front. The crack tip fields and out-of-plane stress constraint factor are analyzed using three-dimensional elastic-plastic theory and finite element method. The reason of delaminating is the couple effect of the weak interfaces and high stress in the specimens. As the out-of-plane stress is the highest on the middle plane of the specimen crack front and increases with the thickness, the delaminating is the severest at the middle of the thickness. The small delamination cracks can be found in the thinner specimens. The couple effects of thickness and delamination. crack on cracking resistance of high-toughness pipeline steels have been studied.
