Abstract:A PC-based, 3D-visualized off-line programming system for welding robots was described in this paper. In this system the three-dimensional geometrical model as well as the kinematical model of a welding robot and its workpiece was built. With the function of interactive virtual teach-in procedure, the welding paths of the robot could be planned and automatically programmed. For multi-pass welding, the welding path of each weld bead could be automatically planned and programmed with macro technique. Then the created program could be verified for the reliability and security of the robot motion path by means of dynamical simulation with the 3D robot model. At last the program could be transferred to the robot system through a communication interface, and be converted to its particular language format. Therefore the practicability of the off-line programming for robot could be improved greatly. By means of connection with series or networking interface between the off-line programming system and the robot system, a synchronized movement of the real and virtual robot could be implemented, which may provide an effective way for remote robot control through a network.
