Abstract:In the previous Letter (Zheng C L and Zhang J F 2002 Chin. Phys. Lett. 19 1399), a localized excitation of the generalized Ablowitz-Kaup-Newell-Segur (GAKNS) system was obtained via the standard Painleve truncated expansion and a special variable separation approach. In this work, starting from a new variable separation approach,a more general variable separation excitation of this system is derived. The abundance of the localized coherent soliton excitations like dromions, lumps, rings, peakons and oscillating soliton excitations can be constructed by introducing appropriate lower-dimensional soliton patterns. Meanwhile we discuss two kinds of interactions of solitons. One is the interaction between the travelling peakon type soliton excitations, which is not completely elastic. The other is the interaction between the travelling ring type soliton excitations, which is completely elastic.

Abstract:A variable separation approach is used to obtain localized coherent structures in a generalized (2+1)-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger system. Applying a special Bäcklund transformation and introducing arbitrary functions of the seed solutions, the abundance of the localized structures of this system are derived. By selecting the arbitrary functions appropriately, some special types of localized exitations such as dromions, dromion lattice, peakons, breathers and instantons are constructed.

Abstract:We study how to realize Smale solenoid type attractors in 3-manifolds. It is already known that we can restrict the 3-manifolds to lens spaces. We get all Smale solenoids realized in a given lens space through an inductive construction. We turn this around to address the question of how to decide whether a closed braid is a trivial knot in S3. For a diffeomorphism f of a 3-manifold M that realizes a Smale solenoid, it is natural to ask whether f−1 also realizes a Smale solenoid. We relate this question to exchangeable braids, and for some special positive case, we describe the relation between the two Smale solenoids of f and f−1.

Abstract:Using alternating Heegaard diagrams, we construct some 3-manifolds which admit diffeomorphisms such that the non-wandering sets of the diffeomorphisms are composed of Smale-Williams solenoid attractors and repellers. An interesting example is the truncated-cube space. In addition, we prove that if the non-wandering set of the diffeomorphism consists of genus two Smale-Williams solenoids, then the Heegaard genus of the closed manifold is at most two.

Abstract:Solenoids are ``inverse limits'' of the circle, and the classical knot theory is the theory of tame embeddings of the circle into the 3-space. We give some general study, including certain classification results, of tame embeddings of solenoids into the 3-space as the ``inverse limits'' of the tame embeddings of the circle. Some applications are discussed. In particular, there are ``tamely'' embedded solenoids $\Sigma\subset \R^3$ which are strictly achiral. Since solenoids are non-planar, this contrasts sharply with the known fact that if there is a strictly achiral embedding $Y\subset \R^3$ of a compact polyhedron $Y$, then $Y$ must be planar.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate solutions of a (2+1)-dimensional sinh-Gordon equation. General solitons and (semi-)rational solutions are derived by the combination of Hirota’s bilinear method and Kadomtsev-Petviashvili hierarchy reduction approach. General solutions are expressed as N× N Gram-type determinants. When the determinant size N is even, we generate solitons, line breathers, and (semi-)rational solutions located on constant backgrounds. In particular, through the asymptotic analysis we prove that the collision of solitons are completely elastic. When N is odd, we derive exact solutions on periodic backgrounds. The dynamical behaviors of those derived solutions are analyzed with plots. For rational solutions, we display the interaction of lumps. For semi-rational solutions, we find the interaction solutions between lumps and solitons.

Abstract:A measured solenoid is a compact laminated space endowed with a transversal measure. The De Rham L2-cohomology of the solenoid is defined by using differential forms which are smooth in the leafwise directions and L2 in the transversal direction. We develop the theory of harmonic forms for Riemannian measured solenoids, and prove that this computes the De Rham L2-cohomology of the solenoid.This implies in particular a Poincaré duality result.

Abstract:As a series of work about "fractonic superfluids," in this paper, we develop an exotic fractonic superfluid phase in d-dimensional space where subdimensional particles-their mobility is partially restricted-are condensed. The off-diagonal long range order (ODLRO) is investigated. To demonstrate, we consider "lineons"-a subdimensional particle whose mobility is free only in certain one-dimensional directions. We start with a d-component microscopic Hamiltonian model. The model respects a higher-rank symmetry such that both particle numbers of each component and angular charge moments are conserved quantities. By performing the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov approximation, we derive a set of Gross-Pitaevskii equations and a Bogoliubov-de Gennes (BdG) Hamiltonian, which leads to a description of both condensed components and unification of gapless phonons and gapped rotons. With the coherent-path-integral representation, we also derive the long-wavelength effective field theory of gapless Goldstone modes and analyze quantum fluctuations around classical ground states. The Euler-Lagrange equations and Noether charges/currents are also studied. In two spatial dimensions and higher, such an ODLRO stays stable against quantum fluctuations. Finally, we study vortex configurations. The higher-rank symmetry enforces a hierarchy of thermal vortex excitations whose structures are dominated by two guiding statements. Specially, we construct two types of vortex excitations, the conventional and dipole vortices. The latter carries a charge with dimension as a momentum. The two statements can be more generally applicable. Further perspectives are discussed.

Abstract:The attractor mechanism in five dimensional Einstein-Maxwell Chern-Simons theory is studied. The expression of the five dimensional rotating black object potential depending on Taub-NUT, electric and magnetic charges as well as on all the scalar and gauge fields, is investigated. The first order formalism in d=5 is constructed and analyzed. We derive a general expression defining the fake superpotential which is valid for all charge configurations. An explicit expression for the fake superpotential is constructed, for all very special geometries, in the case of vanishing Taub-NUT charge. We carry out an analogous construction in the very special geometries corresponding to $t^3$ and $stu$ models, for the most general charge configurations. The attractor flows and horizon values of all fields are given.

Abstract:Solitons in two-dimensional quantum field theory exhibit patterns of degeneracies and associated selection rules on scattering amplitudes. We develop a representation theory that captures these intriguing features of solitons. This representation theory is based on an algebra we refer to as the "strip algebra", $\textrm{Str}_{\mathcal{C}}(\mathcal{M})$, which is defined in terms of the non-invertible symmetry, $\mathcal{C},$ a fusion category, and its action on boundary conditions encoded by a module category, $\mathcal{M}$. The strip algebra is a $C^*$-weak Hopf algebra, a fact which can be elegantly deduced by quantizing the three-dimensional Drinfeld center TQFT, $\mathcal{Z}(\mathcal{C}),$ on a spatial manifold with corners. These structures imply that the representation category of the strip algebra is also a unitary fusion category which we identify with a dual category $\mathcal{C}_{\mathcal{M}}^{*}.$ We present a straightforward method for analyzing these representations in terms of quiver diagrams where nodes are vacua and arrows are solitons and provide examples demonstrating how the representation theory reproduces known degeneracies and selection rules of soliton scattering. Our analysis provides the general framework for analyzing non-invertible symmetry on manifolds with boundary and applies both to the case of boundaries at infinity, relevant to particle physics, and boundaries at finite distance, relevant in conformal field theory or condensed matter systems.

Abstract:Let p be prime. A noncommutative p-solenoid is the C*-algebra of Z[1/p] x Z[1/p] twisted by a multiplier of that group, where Z[1/p] is the additive subgroup of the field Q of rational numbers whose denominators are powers of p. In this paper, we survey our classification of these C*-algebras up to *-isomorphism in terms of the multipliers on Z[1/p], using techniques from noncommutative topology. Our work relies in part on writing these C*-algebras as direct limits of rotation algebras, i.e. twisted group C*-algebras of the group Z^2 thereby providing a mean for computing the K-theory of the noncommutative solenoids, as well as the range of the trace on the K_0 groups. We also establish a necessary and sufficient condition for the simplicity of the noncommutative solenoids. Then, using the computation of the trace on K_0, we discuss two different ways of constructing projective modules over the noncommutative solenoids.

Abstract:The nonlinear Hirota–Satsuma–Ito (HSI) equation is an important -dimensional model arising in fluid dynamics, plasmas, and other domains. In this study, the Hirota bilinear method is employed to derive a set of innovative soliton interaction solutions within the framework of the HSI system. Second-order solitons are the focus of our investigation, leading to the identification of four distinct solution types through a systematic analysis of their respective phases. These solutions are characterized by a rich spectrum of collision dynamics, encompassing phenomena, such as fusion, fission, and the intersection of trajectories. A comprehensive characterization of critical properties, including asymptotic forms, velocities, amplitudes, and interaction region lengths, is carried out. For third-order cases, seven hybrid soliton solutions are constructed, and their properties are elucidated. The results offer new analytical insights into the intricate resonant soliton behaviors permitted by the HSI system. The understanding of multidimensional soliton interactions carries significant implications spanning from optics to Bose–Einstein condensates. The Hirota bilinear technique demonstrates strong capabilities in uncovering novel soliton features in complex nonlinear wave models. Extending these methods promises additional discoveries at the intersection of nonlinear fluid dynamics, integrable systems, and soliton theory.
