Abstract:Based on the research status of real-time ethernet, End-to-End delay of ethernet in industrial control processes was analyzed, and its calculation procedure was presented. Through simulation experiment, the real-time characteristics of standard ethernet and fast ethernet under three information releasing modes (synchronous, random, scheduled) were discussed. The results show that the real-time performance of fast Ethernet is obviously better than that of standard ethernet; and in low traffic load, the real-time performance of Ethernet under scheduled releasing mode is the best, but a visible frequency turning point exists; and when the traffic load is saturated, there is no difference under the three information releasing modes.

Abstract:The Ethernet is more and more used in the industrial environments. Because of the non-deterministic protocol of CSMA/CD, Ethernet is thought not to be suitable for the control of real time applications. With the worldwide application and development of Ethernet, its transmission rate is considered sufficiently high enough to estimate that all messages can be received inside a predefined temporal window. Especially, using Ethernet in industrial network will brings a lot of advantages: (1) consistency with the other communication systems installed in the enterprise; (2) employment of the same hardware all over the factory; (3) short cycle-times due to the high transmission speed; (4) large availability of chips implementing the MAC protocol, etc. In this paper, we first analyze the real-time capability of Ethernet and features of traffic for industrial network. Then, we propose some technologies for the design of an Ethernet-based real-time application. Finally, we present an EPA (Ethernet for Plant Automation)-based open network control system.

Abstract:Real-time Ethernet（RTE） control systems with critical real-time requirements are called fast real-time（FRT） systems.To improve the real-time performance of Ethernet for plant automation（EPA）,we propose an EPA-FRT scheme.The minimum macrocycle of EPA networks is reduced by redefining the EPA network frame format,and the synchronization process is modified to acquire higher accuracy.A multi-segmented topology with a scheduling scheme is introduced to increase effective bandwidth utilization and reduce protocol overheads,and thus to shorten the communication cycle significantly.Performance analysis and practical tests on a prototype system show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme,which achieves the best performance at small periodic payload in large scale systems.

Abstract:Real-time Ethernet for Plant Automation(EPA-RT) technology can not meet the actual needs of high-performance motion control.To resolve the problem,this paper uses fast schedule algorithm and precise synchronization technology of Fast Real-time Ethernet for Plant Automation(EPA-FRT) technology to achieve better real-time performance and higher synchronization accuracy.Six-layer communication model and two-layer network structure are analyzed.Performance test result of EPA-FRT system shows that the communication cycle time is less than l ms and the synchronization deviation is less than 1 μs,so the EPA-FRT system can meet the demands of high-performance motion control system.

Abstract:The focus that switched Ethernet becomes the mainstream in the networked control system is hard real-time ability. For this paper uses a new analytic tool: network calculus to analysis the special performances of the hard real-time data via a switched Ethernet. In this paper, we firstly propose switched Ethernet. Secondly, with the scheduling algorithms FIFO (first input first output), GPS (generalized processor sharing ) and WFQ (weighted fair queuing), we present the efficient and tight methods to derive the worst case end-to-end delay and buffer size by network calculus. Lastly, in the star topology, we analyze and compare the performance of the switched Ethernet with WFQ and FIFO scheduling policies using different workload sets and under different utilization.

Abstract:In the process of China's automated production, the upgrading and networking of old infrastructures becomes one of the key issues. With large quantity, numerous varieties and wide distribution, these infrastructures brings complex design work and high cost to network them into fieldbus, which greatly hamper the building of intelligent factories. This paper proposed an industrial-control solution to network these infrastructures by power line carrier (PLC) communication. The solution applies Time-Triggered Ethernet(TTE), one of the real-time Ethernet to solve the problem of communication congestion and can limit the control accuracy on the level of ns. The network performance of TTE is verified on OMNeT++ at the last of the paper.

Abstract:Considering the increasing use of information technology with established standards, such as TCP/IP and XML in modern industrial automation, we present a high cost performance solution with FPGA (field programmable gate array) implementation of a novel reliable real-time data transfer system based on EPA (Ethernet for plant automation) protocol and IEEE 1588 standard. This combination can provide more predictable and real-time communication between automation equipments and precise synchronization between devices. The designed EPA system has been verified on Xilinx Spartan3 XC3S1500 and it consumed 75% of the total slices. The experimental results show that the novel industrial control system achieves high synchronization precision and provides a 1.59-μs standard deviation between the master device and the slave ones. Such a real-time data transfer system is an excellent candidate for automation equipments which require precise synchronization based on Ethernet at a comparatively low price.

Abstract:The existing problems and possible solutions of the networked control system(NCS) are summarized.Aiming at the problems of the induced delay and lack of the certainty and real-time control of fieldbus control systems based on Ethernet transmission,this paper proposes a real-time scheduling scheme for EPA(Ethernet for plant automation) industrial fieldbuses.This scheme provides a scheduling algorithm with time division multiple access and clock synchronization that improve the determinism of systems.Parallel processing takes advantage of system resources and produces a more accurate scheduling.The scheme can also process periodic and non-periodic data packets at the same time.Experimental results on an FPGA test platform show the effectiveness of the design.

Abstract:The recent developments of industrial Ethernet are brushing aside people's doubt whether industrial Ethernet could fulfill all of their requirements to real-time performance and reliability. Although designing a highly reliable network with strict real-time constraints is becoming possible, no method has been proposed to help network design systematically considering reliability and real-time constraints. A risk metric is proposed in this paper for evaluating the relationship between reliability mechanisms of an industrial Ethernet network and its real time performance. By simulation of an example network with ring topology the metric is shown to be a suitable basis for effective network optimization.

Abstract:There is a strong interest of using the cheap and simple Ethernet technology for industrial network control system. However, the lack of real-time services has prevented this change of used network technology. In order to realize real-time communication over Ethernet in industrial application, one must be able to bound the medium access time within an acceptable limit. But the multiple access nature of Ethernet makes it impossible to guarantee a deterministic medium access time. In this paper, we introduce the IEEE 802.1p queuing feature in full-duplex switches, and propose a mixed scheduling policy (MSP) for the lay 2 switches in Ethernet. MSP adopts different scheduling policy for different real-time requirements frames. The objective is mainly to study the worst-case response time for real-time periodic frames and the mean delay time for time-critical aperiodic frames by setting the appropriate frames priority to meet the industrial application.

Abstract:With the development of real-time critical systems, the ever-increasing communication data traffic puts forward high-bandwidth and low-delay requirements for communication networks. Therefore, various real-time Ethernet protocols have been proposed, but these protocols are not compatible with each other. The IEEE 802.1 Working Group developed standardized protocols named Audio Video Bridging (AVB) in 2005, and renamed it Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) later. TSN not only adds new features but also retains the original functions of AVB. Proposing real-time Ethernet modeling and design methodologies is the key to meeting high-bandwidth and low-delay communication requirements. This article surveys the modeling from AVB to TSN, mainly including: (1) AVB and TSN modeling; (2) end-to-end delay modeling; (3) real-time scheduling modeling; (4) reliability modeling; and (5) security modeling. Based on these models, this article surveys the recent advances in real-time Ethernet design methodologies from AVB to TSN: (1) end-to-end delay analysis from AVB to TSN; (2) real-time scheduling from AVB to TSN; (3) reliability-aware design for TSN; and (4) security-aware design for TSN. Among the above four points, the last two points are only for TSN, because AVB lacks reliability and security mechanisms. This article further takes the automotive use case as an example to discuss the application of TSN in automobiles. Finally, this article discusses the future trends of TSN. By surveying the recent advances and future trends, we hope to provide references for researchers interested in real-time Ethernet modeling and design methodologies for AVB and TSN.

Abstract:Real time and throughput are very important performances of RTI. The impacts of such key techniques as architecture, threading model, communications, TM and DDM algorithms to the real time performances of RTI are analyzed, and an approach to test the performances of real time and throughput is presented. According to the data collected from the experiments, the performances of some typical RTIs are compared and analyzed. The result shows that in high speed LAN the simulation cycle of an HLA-based system can reach more than 30Hz, which meets the requirements of most man-in-the-loop simulation systems.

Abstract:PROFINET is an emerging real-time industrial Ethernet communication standard,its time delay analysis becomes the study focus both at home and abroad.In modern industrial automation areas,real-time process data and non-real-time data with lower priority will be coexistent in long term.To study the impact of non-real-time data on real-time process data,the delay time of real-time data has been theoretically analyzed under linear topology structure according to non-preemptive scheduling mechanism of PROFINET IO;then a physical platform has been built to study the impact of the parameter changes of non-real-time data streams on the core parameters of RT frames.Test results are analyzed;the relationships between the delay time model of real-time frames and the lengths,package gaps,numbers of non-real-time streams,and the number of switches are obtained.These conclusions lay a good foundation for building large-scale,high-reliability industrial networks in the future.
