Abstract:Based on the research status of real-time ethernet, End-to-End delay of ethernet in industrial control processes was analyzed, and its calculation procedure was presented. Through simulation experiment, the real-time characteristics of standard ethernet and fast ethernet under three information releasing modes (synchronous, random, scheduled) were discussed. The results show that the real-time performance of fast Ethernet is obviously better than that of standard ethernet; and in low traffic load, the real-time performance of Ethernet under scheduled releasing mode is the best, but a visible frequency turning point exists; and when the traffic load is saturated, there is no difference under the three information releasing modes.

Abstract:The Ethernet is more and more used in the industrial environments. Because of the non-deterministic protocol of CSMA/CD, Ethernet is thought not to be suitable for the control of real time applications. With the worldwide application and development of Ethernet, its transmission rate is considered sufficiently high enough to estimate that all messages can be received inside a predefined temporal window. Especially, using Ethernet in industrial network will brings a lot of advantages: (1) consistency with the other communication systems installed in the enterprise; (2) employment of the same hardware all over the factory; (3) short cycle-times due to the high transmission speed; (4) large availability of chips implementing the MAC protocol, etc. In this paper, we first analyze the real-time capability of Ethernet and features of traffic for industrial network. Then, we propose some technologies for the design of an Ethernet-based real-time application. Finally, we present an EPA (Ethernet for Plant Automation)-based open network control system.

Abstract:Based on industrial control process,this paper detailedly analyzes end-to end delay of ethernet,and presents the expectation expression of queue delay and calculation procedure of send delay and transmission delay.By simulation,this paper also analyzes influence of three parameters on real-time capacity of ethernet,and puts forward improving methods on real-time capacity of ethernet in industrial application.These parameters are the number of nodes,the length of frames and communication rate.

Abstract:Real-time Ethernet（RTE） control systems with critical real-time requirements are called fast real-time（FRT） systems.To improve the real-time performance of Ethernet for plant automation（EPA）,we propose an EPA-FRT scheme.The minimum macrocycle of EPA networks is reduced by redefining the EPA network frame format,and the synchronization process is modified to acquire higher accuracy.A multi-segmented topology with a scheduling scheme is introduced to increase effective bandwidth utilization and reduce protocol overheads,and thus to shorten the communication cycle significantly.Performance analysis and practical tests on a prototype system show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme,which achieves the best performance at small periodic payload in large scale systems.

Abstract:There is a growing interest in using Ethernet to support time constrained communication in process control, factory automation and other real-time applications. The paper first presents a comprehensive analysis of the temporal characteristics of traditional Ethernet and the improvements for them, then summarizes the interesting features offered by a switched Ethernet for supporting time constrained communication. Finally, the paper points that there is still lack of general means to handle the capability of switched Ethernet after investigating the QoS of switched Ethernet.

Abstract:Real-time Ethernet for Plant Automation(EPA-RT) technology can not meet the actual needs of high-performance motion control.To resolve the problem,this paper uses fast schedule algorithm and precise synchronization technology of Fast Real-time Ethernet for Plant Automation(EPA-FRT) technology to achieve better real-time performance and higher synchronization accuracy.Six-layer communication model and two-layer network structure are analyzed.Performance test result of EPA-FRT system shows that the communication cycle time is less than l ms and the synchronization deviation is less than 1 μs,so the EPA-FRT system can meet the demands of high-performance motion control system.

Abstract:Reducing various time delays is the major path to enhance real-time performance of industrial control networks.The communication delay of EPA network and the processing delay in the nodes are discussed respectively.Various factors that affecting response time of EPA networks are studied by adopting process analysis method;and the degree of the influence on real-time performance from difference factors are investigated.The main factors affecting EPA real-time performance are found by comparison.Through controllable and uncontrollable analysis on the factors,effective methods for improving real-time performance are given.

Abstract:With respect to the working mechanism of networked control systems with time division scheduling based on clock synchronization,the causes for data packet dropouts in ethernet for plant automation(EPA) based networked control systems are analyzed.A model of EPA systems with data packet dropouts according to different requirements of real time performance is established.The influences that the communication cycle,the length of time slot and the precision of clock synchronization exert on the stability of systems are given while the distribution of clock deviation jitter is a Markov chain.Methods to improve the real time performance of EPA systems are proposed.Finally,the stability of the EPA system is analyzed.

Abstract:In the process of China's automated production, the upgrading and networking of old infrastructures becomes one of the key issues. With large quantity, numerous varieties and wide distribution, these infrastructures brings complex design work and high cost to network them into fieldbus, which greatly hamper the building of intelligent factories. This paper proposed an industrial-control solution to network these infrastructures by power line carrier (PLC) communication. The solution applies Time-Triggered Ethernet(TTE), one of the real-time Ethernet to solve the problem of communication congestion and can limit the control accuracy on the level of ns. The network performance of TTE is verified on OMNeT++ at the last of the paper.

Abstract:To overcome the bad real-time performance of remote control system usually used in industrial field,a method is given to implement remote control based on real-time Ethernet,which combines real-time Ethernet,virtual instrument and optic fiber transmission.The result of experiment indicates that the remote control system based on real-time Ethernet has high reliability,better real-time performance and stronger anti-jamming ability,compared with the common PLC remote control system.It has great value in the control of large industrial field.

Abstract:As the applications of real-time computing technology are becoming more and more popular in many safety critical domains such as avionics, national defense and transportation systems, field network faces new requirements and challenges because of the coexistence of different kinds of synchronous real-time, asynchronous real-time and non-real-time communication requirements. The realization approach and schedulability analysis of safety critical real-time network are very crucial because of giving a way to solve the problem. Firstly, the shortcomings of the existing COTS network such as Ethernet are described. And then, a high reliable and real time Ethernet communication protocol known as E&TTE (event- and time-triggered Ethernet) based on event- and time-triggered approach is presented. The E&TTE based real time network is flexible, and the communication time is predictable. At the same time, the network scheduling model is constructed, and the global schedulability analysis is done in this paper. The rationality and feasibility of E&TTE protocol is also proven by a concrete example. With E&TTE protocol, the diverse requirements of safety critical real time network can be met better. In addition, the E&TTE protocol can be widely applied to the field control network of ordinary industry systems.

Abstract:Due to the low price and robustness resulting from its wide acceptance and deployment, ISO/IEC 8802-3 based Ethernet is becoming the de-facto network in DCS and PLC, and is being attempted to connect field devices. It is difficult to build a real-time field control network based on Ethernet because it has unpredictable delay characteristics due to packet collisions. To resolve this problem, some papers and reports presented the so-called hardware methods to improve real-time performance but they changed the circuits of Ethernet. Some other authors designed the so-called software methods (e.g. static or dynamic traffic smoothers by giving Ethernet packets priority) which only reduced the packet collision without avoiding collision. In addition, these methods are designed based on some presuppositions or preconditions and are difficult to be implemented and used in real control systems. Considering that some real-time packets can be divided in two types: (1) cyclic packets (e.g. measurement and control data) which shall be transferred at each communication cycle, and (2) acyclic packets (e.g. configuring data and alert/alarm data) which are transferred randomly, we define a EPA-based Communication Scheduling Management Entity (EPA_CSME) beyond Ethernet MAC protocol referring to ISO/OSI model to avoid collisions in Ethernet system. With the precise time synchronization based on IEC61588 protocol with the same time server, each node has the same absolute time in the whole system.

Abstract:There is a strong interest of using the cheap and simple Ethernet technology for industrial network control system. However, the lack of real-time services has prevented this change of used network technology. In order to realize real-time communication over Ethernet in industrial application, one must be able to bound the medium access time within an acceptable limit. But the multiple access nature of Ethernet makes it impossible to guarantee a deterministic medium access time. In this paper, we introduce the IEEE 802.1p queuing feature in full-duplex switches, and propose a mixed scheduling policy (MSP) for the lay 2 switches in Ethernet. MSP adopts different scheduling policy for different real-time requirements frames. The objective is mainly to study the worst-case response time for real-time periodic frames and the mean delay time for time-critical aperiodic frames by setting the appropriate frames priority to meet the industrial application.
