Abstract:The authors show that the self-similar set for a finite family of contractive similitudes (similaxities, i.e., \f(i)(x) - f(i)(y)\ = a(i)\x - y\, x,y is an element of R-N, where 0 < ai < 1) is uniformly perfect except the case that it is a singleton. As a corollary, it is proved that this self-similar set has positive Hausdorff dimension provided that it is not a singleton. And a lower bound of the upper box dimension of the uniformly perfect sets is given: Meanwhile the uniformly perfect set with Hausdorff measure zero in its Hausdorff dimension is given.

Abstract:Let be a self-similar set generated by an iterated function system satisfying the strong separation condition and let f be a contracting similitude with . We show that is relatively open in K if all share a common contraction ratio and orthogonal part. We also provide a counterexample when the orthogonal parts are allowed to vary. This partially answers a question of Elekes, Keleti and Máthé [Ergod. Th. & Dynam. Sys.30 (2010), 399–440]. As a byproduct of our argument, when and K admits two homogeneous generating iterated function systems satisfying the strong separation condition but with contraction ratios of opposite signs, we show that K is symmetric. This partially answers a question of Feng and Wang [Adv. Math.222 (2009), 1964–1981].

Abstract:Lipschitz equivalence of self-similar sets is an important area in the study of fractal geometry. It is known that two dust-like self-similar sets with the same contraction ratios are always Lipschitz equivalent. However, when self-similar sets have touching structures the problem of Lipschitz equivalence becomes much more challenging and intriguing at the same time. So far the only known results only cover self-similar sets in $\bR$ with no more than 3 branches. In this study we establish results for the Lipschitz equivalence of self-similar sets with touching structures in $\bR$ with arbitrarily many branches. Key to our study is the introduction of a geometric condition for self-similar sets called {\em substitutable}.

Abstract:Graph directed self-similar structure generalizes the concept of self-similar set and contains some important instants of fractal sets. We characterize the open set condition (OSC), which is fundamental in the study of self-similar set, for graph directed self-similar structure in terms of the post critical set. Using this characterization, we establish the relations between OSC and other separation conditions including post-critically finite, finitely ramified condition and finite preimage property. It turns out that whether the intrinsic metric is doubling makes difference. In particular, finitely ramified condition implies OSC in case of doubling metric but does not in case of non-doubling metric.

Abstract:Let $K\subset\mathbb{R}^d$ be a self-similar set generated by an iterated function system $\{\varphi_i\}_{i=1}^m$ satisfying the strong separation condition and let $f$ be a contracting similitude with $f(K)\subset K$. We show that $f(K)$ is relative open in $K$ if all $\varphi_i$'s share a common contraction ratio and orthogonal part. We also provide a counterexample when the orthogonal parts are allowed to vary. This partially answers a question in Elekes, Keleti and M{\'a}th{\'e} [Ergodic Theory Dynam. Systems 30 (2010)]. Abstract:In this paper we investigate the Lipschitz equivalence of dust-like self-similar sets in R-d. One of the fundamental results by Falconer and Marsh [On the Lipschitz equivalence of Cantor sets, Mathematika, 39 (1992), 223-233] establishes conditions for Lipschitz equivalence based on the algebraic properties of the contraction ratios of the self-similar sets. In this paper we extend the study by examining deeper such connections.A key ingredient of our study is the introduction of a new equivalent relation between two dust-like self-similar sets called a matchable condition. Thanks to a certain measure-preserving property of bi-Lipschitz maps between dust-like self-similar sets, we show that the matchable condition is a necessary condition for Lipschitz equivalence.Using the matchable condition we prove several conditions on the Lipschitz equivalence of dust-like self-similar sets based on the algebraic properties of the contraction ratios, which include a complete characterization of Lipschitz equivalence when the multiplication groups generated by the contraction ratios have full rank. We also completely characterize the Lipschitz equivalence of dust-like self-similar sets with two branches (i.e., they are generated by IFS with two contractive similarities). Some other results are also presented, including a complete characterization of Lipschitz equivalence when one of the self-similar sets has uniform contraction ratio.

Abstract:We investigate and quantify the distinction between rectifiable and purely unrectifiable 1-sets in the plane. That is, given that purely unrectifiable 1-sets always have null intersections with Lipschitz images, we ask whether these sets intersect with Lipschitz images at a dimension that is close to one. In an answer to this question, we show that one-dimensional attractors of iterated function systems that satisfy the open set condition have subsets of dimension arbitrarily close to one that can be covered by Lipschitz graphs. Moreover, the Lipschitz constant of such graphs depends explicitly on the difference between the dimension of the original set and the subset that intersects with the graph.

Abstract:We study the geometric properties of self-similar measures on intervals generated by iterated function systems (IFS's) that do not satisfy the open set condition (OSC) and have overlaps. The examples studied in this paper are the infinite Bernoulli convolution associated with the golden ratio, and a family of convolutions of Cantor-type measures. We make use of Strichartz second-order identities defined by auxiliary IFS's to compute measures of cells on different levels. These auxiliary IFS's do satisfy the OSC and are used to define new metrics. As an application, we obtain sub-Gaussian heat kernel estimates of the time changed Brownian motions with respect to these measures. The walk dimensions obtained under these new metrics are strictly greater than 2 and are closely related to the spectral dimension of fractal Laplacians.

Abstract:A self-similar set always possesses a self-similar topological structure coded by the shift space (symbolic space), which is considered as the coordinate system for this set. On the contrary, it is known that given a compact set K with self-similar topological structure, there may not exist a metric d such that ( K, d ) is a self- similar set with the same topological structure. We provide an easy-to-use sufficient condition for the existence of such metric d in terms of the associated graph with respect to the self-similar topological structure. Abstract:Luo, Rao and Xiong [Topol. Appl. 322 (2022), 108271] conjectured that if a planar self-similar iterated function system with the open set condition does not involve rotations or reflections, then every connected component of the attractor is locally connected. We create a homogeneous counterexample of Lalley-Gatzouras type, which disproves this conjecture.

Abstract:Non-autonomous self-similar sets are a family of compact sets which are, in some sense, highly homogeneous in space but highly inhomogeneous in scale. The main purpose of this note is to clarify various regularity properties and separation conditions relevant for the fine local scaling properties of these sets. A simple application of our results is a precise formula for the Assouad dimension of non-autonomous self-similar sets in $\mathbb{R}^d$ satisfying a certain ``bounded neighbourhood'' condition, which generalizes earlier work of Li--Li--Miao--Xi and Olsen--Robinson--Sharples. We also see that the bounded neighbourhood assumption is, in few different senses, as general as possible.

Abstract:We obtain two-sided sub-Gaussian estimates of heat kernels for strongly local Dirichlet forms on intervals, equipped with self-similar measures generated by iterated function systems (IFS’s) that do not satisfy the open set condition (OSC) and have overlaps. We first give a framework for heat kernel estimates on intervals, and then consider examples of self-similar measures to illustrate this phenomenon.
