Abstract:Let p be a prime, χ denote the Dirichlet character modulo p and $$L(p)=\{a\in {\mathbb{Z}}^{+}|(a,p)=1,a\bar{a}\equiv 1(\bmod\ p),|a-\bar{a}|\le H\}$$. We study the distribution of elements in the set L(p) in character over the short interval. In this paper, we use the analytic method and show the distribution property of$$ \sum\limits_{n\le N\atop n\in L(p)}\chi(n), $$and give a non-trivial estimate.

Abstract:The topological properties of coverings and their corresponding covering approximation operators have drawn special attention because these topological properties have important applications in rough sets. In this paper, we present some topological characterizations for three covering approximation operators. In the first part, we present certain topological characterizations for the covering lower approximation operator in an infinite universe, while the topological characterizations for the first and the second types of covering upper approximation operators are studied in a finite universe. In the second part, the relationships among three operators and the relationships among three topological spaces are established. In a word, topology theory provides useful tools to study covering-based rough sets.

Abstract:We prove that for every integer $d \ge 2$ there exists a dense collection of subsets of $[n]^d$ such that no two of them have a symmetric difference that may be written as the $d$th power of a union of at most $\lfloor d/2 \rfloor$ intervals. This provides a limitation on reasonable tightenings of a question of Alon from 2023 and of a conjecture of Gowers from 2009, and investigates a direction analogous to that of recent works of Conlon, Kamčev, Leader, Räty and Spiegel on intervals in the Hales-Jewett theorem.

Abstract:In this short, we study sums of the shape $\sum_{n\leqslant x}{f([x/n])}/{[x/n]},$ where $f$ is Euler totient function $\varphi$, Dedekind function $\Psi$, sum-of-divisors function $\sigma$ or the alternating sum-of-divisors function $\beta.$ We improve previous results when $f=\varphi$ and derive new estimates when $f=\Psi, f=\sigma$ and $f=\beta.$

Abstract:In this paper, we defined a new generalized Cochrane sum with Dirichlet characters, and gave the upper bound of the generalized Cochrane sum with Dirichlet characters. Moreover, we studied the asymptotic estimation problem of the mean value of the generalized Cochrane sum with Dirichlet characters and obtained a sharp asymptotic formula for it. By using this asymptotic formula, we also gave the mean value of the generalized Dedekind sum.

The main purpose of this paper is to establish new results on gaps between the elements of multiplicative subgroups of finite fields. Abstract:We estimate mixed character sums of polynomial values over elements of a finite field Fqr with sparse representations in a fixed ordered basis over the subfield Fq . First we use a combination of the inclusion–exclusion principle with bounds on character sums over linear subspaces to get nontrivial bounds for large q . Then we focus on the particular case q=2 , which is more intricate. The bounds depend on certain natural restrictions. We also provide families of examples for which the conditions of our bounds are fulfilled. In particular, we completely classify all monomials as argument of the additive character for which our bound is applicable. Moreover, we also show that it is applicable for a large family of rational functions, which includes all reciprocal monomials.

Abstract:Let F be a finite field of q elements. In this paper we obtain several estimates on character sums derived from the Riemann hypothesis for curves over F. In particular, we establish an estimate on twisted generalized Kloosterman sums as conjectured by P. Deligne (1977, “Cohomologieétale (SGA 4½),” Lecture Notes in Mathemmatics, Vol. 569, Springer-Verlag, Berlin/Heidelberg/New York) for the case n = 2: |Σx ∈ N2 χ(x) ψ(x)| ≤ 2q1/2 for all nontrivial characters (χ, ψ) of N2 × F2. Here F2 is a quadratic extension of F and N2 consists of norm 1 (to F) elements in F2. We also present new constructions of Ramanujan graphs based on abelian groups. The character sum estimates are used to prove that these are indeed Ramanujan graphs.

Abstract:We obtain new bounds on some trilinear and quadrilinear character sums, which are non-trivial starting from very short ranges of the variables. An application to an apparently new problem on oscillations of characters on differences between Farey fractions is given. Other applications include a modular analogue of a multiplicative hybrid problem of Iwaniec and Sárközy (1987) and the solvability of some prime type equations with constraints.
