Abstract:Methods toward the dimerization and homocoupling of terminal alkynes have been established that employ Co complexes along with tBuOK under different atmosphere. A variety of Z-1,3-enynes were furnished with a high Z:E (up to 93:7) ratio in moderate to very good yields under inert atmosphere. Alternatively, the Glaser homocoupling reaction of terminal alkynes was also accomplished with a Co catalyst, successfully affording various 1,3-diynes in excellent yields (up to 93%) under oxygen.

Abstract:A Cp*Rh-III-catalyzed annulative carbooxygenation of challenging 1,1-disubstituted alkenes triggered by C-H activation of N-aryloxyacetamides has been established, which affords 2,3-dihydrobenzofuran derivatives with a quaternary carbon center in good to excellent yields under mild redox-neutral conditions. An amide group on the alkenes is essential for the process, and may inhibit the beta-H elimination from C(sp3)-Rh species by saturating the rhodium center through coordination. Furthermore, mechanistic insights obtained from control experiments suggest a mechanism involving a Rh-III-Rh-V-Rh-III catalytic cycle.

Abstract:A highly regioselective indium-mediated allylation of carbon dioxide starting from simple allylic halides (X = I, Br, Cl) has been developed. No transition metal catalyst is needed and an inert atmosphere is not necessary. Abstract:A zinc or indium-mediated Barbier-type addition reaction of 2,3-allenals with allyl bromide in a mixed medium of aqueous NH4Cl and THF (5 : 2) was developed to provide an efficient route to 1,5,6-alkatrien-4-ols, which is synthetically very useful. No 1,4-addition reaction was observed. Depending on the substrates, both indium and activated zinc afforded the 1,2-addition products in moderate to excellent yields: for terminal allenals, activated zinc was better while in other cases the yields with indium were relatively higher.

Abstract:A recyclable, convenient, and efficient catalytic system for C-acylation of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds and malononitrile with acid chlorides has been developed, giving moderate to excellent yields under mild conditions. This is the first catalytic example of such reactions. In addition, by applying this protocol as the key step, 3,5-disubstituted-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylate can easily be synthesized in high yields in a one-pot procedure.

Abstract:An intermolecular 1,2-diacylation of alkenes is disclosed via cooperative N-heterocyclic carbene and photoredox catalysis under the mediation of PPh3 and Cs2CO3. This protocol provides a practical approach for construction of 1,4-dicarbonyl compounds toward novel diketone and pharmaceutical derivatives. Furthermore, the regioselective dicarbonyl compounds can be synthesized by adding acyl azolium salt. Mechanistic investigations suggest that the process was a critical radical/radical cross coupling of ketyl radicals with benzylic C-radicals.

Abstract:Abstract Intermolecular addition of enols and enolates to unactivated alkynes was proved to be a simple and powerful method for carbon-carbon bond formation. Up to date, a catalytic asymmetric version of alkyne with 1,3-dicarbonyl compound has not been realized. Herein, we achieve the catalytic asymmetric intermolecular addition of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds to unactivated 1-alkynes attributing to the synergistic activation of chiral N , N ′-dioxide-indium(III) or nickel(II) Lewis acid and achiral gold(I) π-acid. A range of β-ketoamides, β-ketoesters and 1,3-diketones transform to the corresponding products with a tetra-substituted chiral center in good yields with good e.r. values. Besides, a possible catalytic cycle and a transition state model are proposed to illustrate the reaction process and the origin of chiral induction based on the experimental investigations.

Abstract:One-carbon-unit insertion into carbon-halogen (C-X) bonds accompanied by the formation of a new C-X bond and carbon-chain elongation is a powerful synthetic method of complex organohalides. Herein, we developed an indium trihalide catalyzed formal insertion of diazo esters into a C-X (X = Cl, Br, I) bond. In the present system, the reactions of α-aryl diazo esters with benzylic chlorides, bromides, and iodides yielded α-chloro, α-bromo, and α-iodo esters, respectively.

Abstract:A Rh(I)‐catalyzed chelation‐assisted C2‐selective C−H decarbonylative alkylation of indoles with readily available, cheap, safe and structurally diverse alkyl carboxylic acids or anhydrides has been developed. A wide variety of primary and secondary alkyl carboxylic acids and differently substituted indoles are compatible with this transformation, allowing facile synthesis of various C2‐alkylated indoles with high efficiency and broad tolerance of diverse functional groups. The reaction proceeds in the absence of any external oxidant, and the presence of readily installable and removable N‐pyrimidyl directing group is critical for catalysis. The process is convenient and scalable, and avoids the use of a dried solvent and an inert atmosphere. Moreover, selective C7‐alkylation and C2, C7‐dialkylation have also been achieved by slightly modifying the reaction conditions.

Abstract:Transition metal-catalyzed carbene transfer reaction is one of the most notable advances for C−C bond formation reactionsduring the past decade, which has been widely employed in the preparation of C3-substituted indoles. Here, we described an efficient example of catalyst- and metal-free aminoboration of alkynes and CC bond formation with diazo compounds to produce C3-substituted indoles. Diverse alkynylanilines and diazo compounds can be utilized for this tandem transformation under mild reaction conditions, resulting in broad functional group compatibility. Additionally, this metal-free strategy can be extended to construct substituted benzofurans.

Abstract:Efficient Rh(III)-catalyzed C-H activation of different classes of (hetero)-arenes such as 2-phenylpyridine, indoles, aryl ketones and acetanilide and their dehydrogenative cross-coupling with allylic alcohols are described. Several important skeletons such as beta-aryl aldehydes and ketones, 2-acetylindenes, 3,4-dihydro-1H-quinolin-2-one and quinoline could be produced using this protocol.

Abstract:An unprecedented AlCl3-promoted formal [2 + 3]-cycloaddition of 1,1-cyclopropanes with readily available N-benzylic sulfonamides has been developed. Experimental evidence supports an unusual mechanism wherein the donor-acceptor cyclopropane serves as a source of 2-styrylmalonate rather than the "classical" 1,3-dipole. A broad range of 1,1-cyclopropanediesters undergo a carbocation-initiated cyclization reaction with N-benzylic sulfonamides to afford highly functionalized Indane derivatives in a fast and high-yielding procedure.
