Abstract:To study the intramolecular Diels-Alder cycloadditon of 2H-chromen-2-one as a diene, a series of chiral N-allyl-N-benzylamides that contain a 2H-chromen-2-one moiety were designed for the synthesis of benzo[f]isoindol-1-ones via an intramolecular Diels-Alder and a subsequent retro-Diels-Alder cycloaddition with the expulsion of CO2. Both the yield (80%-89%) and absolute stereocontrol of the tandem reaction were high when an electron-withdrawing group was attached to the dienophile. The double bond in the styrene substructure remained in the products could be further derivatized by dihydroxylation. Abstract:A cobalt-catalyzed multipositional isomerization of conjugated dienes has been reported for the first time using an 8-oxazoline iminoquinoline ligand. This reaction is operationally simple and atom-economical using readily available starting materials with an E/Z mixture to access disubstituted 1,3-dienes with excellent yields and good E,E stereoselectivity. The mechanism via alkene insertion of cobalt hydride species and β-H elimination of a π-allyl cobalt intermediate is proposed on the basis of deuterium labeling and control experiments and density functional theory calculations.

Abstract:The copper-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) reaction is regarded as a prime example of "click chemistry", but the asymmetric click cycloaddition of internal alkynes still remains challenging. A new asymmetric Rh-catalyzed click cycloaddition of N-alkynylindoles with azides was developed, providing atroposelective access to C-N axially chiral triazolyl indoles, a new type of heterobiaryl, with excellent yields and enantioselectivity. This asymmetric approach is efficient, mild, robust and atom-economic, and features very broad substrate scope with easily available Tol-BINAP ligands.

Abstract:An efficient catalytic enantioselective hetero-Diels - Alder reaction of Danishefsky's diene with aldehydes using the magnesium binaphthoxide system has been developed, affording a variety of 2-substituted 2,3-dihydro-4H-pyran-4-ones in high yields and with excellent ee values. The aggregation behavior and nonlinear effect of the catalytic system, as well as the remarkable stereoelectronic effects of ligands on the catalysis, have also been investigated. On the basis of the structure of the isolated reaction intermediate, the stereochemistry of the products, and the information attained from a study of the nonlinear effect, a plausible asymmetric induction model has been proposed. Abstract:A mild three-component synthetic approach to versatile 2-amino-1,4-dihydropyridines from terminal alkynes, sulfonyl azides, and N-sulfonyl-1-aza-1,3-butadienes was successfully developed and relied on the in situ generation of metalated ynamide intermediates Ib to achieve a formal inverse electron-demand hetero-Diels-Alder reaction. Experimental results suggest that alkali metal cations (Li(+) and Cs(+) ions) might play a critical role to achieve the cycloaddition process.

Abstract:A highly regio- and diastereoselective visible light-promoted [2 + 2] cycloaddition between readily available 1,4-dihydropyridines and olefins has been developed. This strategy is operationally simple and atom-economical and enables the construction of strained polysubstituted 2-azabicyclo[4.2.0]octanes with three all-carbon quaternary centers with good functional group tolerance. These products can be easily converted to various structurally unique derivatives. The primary mechanistic studies demonstrated that the reaction proceeds through an energy transfer pathway.

Abstract:A rhodium-catalyzed tandem arylation/cyclization reaction of 3-(ortho-boronated aryl) conjugated enones with unactivated alkynes is reported. By using a rhodium(I)/chiral-diene complex as the catalyst, the protocol was processed smoothly to provide various 2,3-disubstituted indene compounds in high yields with excellent regioselectivities and enantioselectivities. The approach outlined herein is appealing, as simple diarylalkynes, diakylalkynes, and alkyl(aryl)alkynes are the starting materials.

Abstract:A series of novel chiral C2-symmetric bis (oxazoline) ligands have been synthesized.The copper and magnesium complexes,prepared in situ from copper(Ⅱ)-triflate of magnesium triflate with the new enantiopure oxazoline ligands,were evaluated as chiral catalysts in the enantioselective Diels-Alder reaction of cyclopentadiene with N-crotenoyl-oxazolidin-2-one.Primary results showed that diastereoselectivity up to 94% and enantioselectivity up to 68% ee for endo products were observed respectively with these ligands.

Abstract:1,2,3,4-Tetrasubstituted cyclopentadienes and indene derivatives with identical or different substituents were obtained in good to excellent isolated yields through a zirconocene- and CuCl-mediated intermolecular coupling process. This synthetic procedure involved three organic partners, including one CH2 I2 , and two different or identical alkynes. Two alkynes or one diyne undergo Cp2Zr(II)-mediated (Cp = η(5)-C5H5) pair-selective reductive coupling to afford the corresponding zirconacyclopentadiene derivatives, which react, in the presence of CuCl and 1,3-dimethyl-3,4,5,6-tetrahydro-2(1 H)-pyrimidinone (DMPU), with CH2I2 through intermolecular followed by intramolecular coupling to afford the cyclopentadiene derivatives. An application of the prepared tetrasubstituted cyclopentadiene derivatives was demonstrated by the facile synthesis of the corresponding zirconocene complexes [((4R)Cp)2ZrCl2] and [((4R)Cp)2ZrR'2] (R' = Me, Et, or nBu). The unique 1,2,3,4-tetrasubstituted cyclopentadiene ligands and the corresponding metallocenes are expected to have further applications in organometallic chemistry and organic synthesis.

Abstract:The catalytic enantioselective diorganozinc additions to cyclic diketones including pyrazolin-4,5-diones and isatins have been developed. In the presence of morpholine-containing chiral amino alcohol ligand, the corresponding chiral cyclic tertiary alcohols were produced in good to excellent yields (up to 97 %) and enantioselectivities (up to 95 % ee). Abstract:Azepino[2,3-b]indoles were regioselectively prepared through rhodium-catalyzed formal aza-[4 + 3] cycloaddition between 3-diazoindolin-2-imines and 1,3-dienes in moderate to good yields. Using 2-[(trimethylsilyl)oxy]-1,3-butadiene as the diene component, azepino[2,3-b]indol-4(1H)-ones were constructed. Furthermore, the reactions of cyclic dienes, such as 1,3-cyclohexadiene and 1,3-cyclopentadiene, furnished the corresponding [3 + 2] cycloaddition products.

Abstract:A palladium-catalyzed regioselective 1,2-alkynyl-carbonalization of conjugated dienes with ethynylbenziodazolone (EBZ) and indoles has been developed for the first time. Various molecules containing alkenyl, alkynyl, and indole groups were readily obtained. Moreover, the resulting products can be applied to various derivatizations. Abstract:Herein, we report the rhodium-catalyzed domino arylation/cyclization reaction of unactivated internal alkynes to afford the optically active indenols in excellent yields (up to 92%) and extremely high enantioselectivities (up to 99% ee) in the presence of new amide substituted chiral diene ligands.
