Abstract:The basic principles for suppressing the harmonics of the conventional series hybrid active power filter (SHAPF) are analyzed qualitatively. Based on these, a novel series hybrid active power filter is proposed. Compared with the conventional series active power filter (SAPF) or the series hybrid active power filter, its active part only needs to suppress some low order harmonics. So the capacity factor of the inverter's DC voltage is much improved and the power fating of the active part is decreased markedly, while its filter quality does not decline. The detailed theoretical analysis is given, and the feasibility is verified through simulation and experiment on a 10kVA prototype.

Abstract:A computing comparison of conduction losses,switching losses and filter inductor losses between three-level and two-level inverters is proposed with the help of Mathcad software.Comparing the total losses and efficiency of three-level and two-level proves that the three-level inverters has more efficiency advantage at high frequency.It can provide theory for the choice of the topology in the inverter design.

Abstract:This paper analyzed three control strategies (Direct Power Control, Per-phase Harmonic Reference Generation Method, Conventional Ip-Iq Method) for active power filters in three-phase four-wire systems. They were applied to a 4-leg inverter to compensate Input currents of an office building. Differences in harmonic detecting and switching sequence generation of these three control strategies were analyzed. Per-phase harmonic reference generation control is used to reduce capacity of dc bus capacitor. Direct power control is designed for better harmonic compensation as well as smaller power capacity. The simulation results are presented to substantiate the theoretical analyses.

Abstract:Aiming at the actuality that the extensive application of power electronics results in serious harmonic pollution and aeronautical power supplies demand on high reliability,the passive three-phase power factor correction have been applied in the aeronautical power supplies.There are two methods of the passive three-phase power factor correction:the first one is that the filter capacitors and inductors are applied in the input-end of alternating current,and the second one is that the filter capacitors and inductors are applied in the output-end of three-phase rectifier.The advantages and drawbacks of the two methods of the passive three-phase power factor correction aer concluded in this paper through simulation and analysis and verified by experiment.To reduce the voltage stress of power switching transistors,the second method of power factor correction was applied in aeronautical power supply.

Abstract:Shunt hybrid active power filter (HAPF) which consists of both active and passive parts has a lot of attractive points, e.g. suitable for high power and/or high voltage application, cost-effective initial investment and convenient for connection etc. However, popular HAPF configurations are confronted larger active part's capacity, discontinuous impedance in frequency domain and sensitive to passive filter mistuned, which results in higher cost and unsatisfied harmonic compensation performance respectively. A modified HAPF [3] has, on the other hand, the problem that hard to regulate the DC bus voltage due to its very high fundamental impedance. This paper proposes a new topology with further improvement of passive part and has the advantages of low active capacity, low cost, continuous frequency-domain impedance, satisfied harmonic suppression performance and can regulate DC bus voltage to constant. Detail analysis and simulations verify the effectiveness and feasibility.

Abstract:This article presents the performance comparison of Series Active Power Filter (Series APF) based on seven and nine multi-level Neutral Point Clamped (NPC) inverters using the same control scheme. The Series APF is one of the most efficient and effective modern custom power devices used in power distribution networks to compensate voltage harmonic and all voltage disturbances. The conventional configuration based on voltage source inverter (VSI) operated at very high switching frequency presents several drawbacks and limited for low power applications. To overcome these problems and improve the output voltage different multi-level are used in various power application in particular Flying Capacitor (FC), Cascade H-Bridge (CHB) and multi-level (NPC) inverters. In this study seven and nine-level (NPC) inverters are proposed for active power filtering system; these inverters present diverse advantages include the capability to reduce the harmonic content, decrease the voltage or current ratings of the semiconductors and mainly they can work at low switching frequency. To generate switching pulses Multi-Carrier Level-Shifted Pulse Width Modulation (MC-LSPWM) control technique is adopted with modified P-Q control strategies. To verify the accuracy and the performance of the proposed Series APF models, simulation is performed using MATLAB-Simulink platform and SimPowerSystem Toolbox. The obtained results show the superiority of series APF based on nine-level in term of THDv reduction compared to the systems with seven-level inverter topology.

Abstract:A simple study on traditional hybrid active filter was introduced,which was not suitable for harmonic compensation in high power factor conditions due to the high fundamental impedance and the large additive reactive current injection.Then a new topology of hybrid active power filter with improved passive filter was proposed.Compared with the traditional one,the new topology has the advantages include reducing the reactive current injecting into the main grid,having better impedance-frequency characteristic,using fewer passive component,makes up the deficiency used in high power factor circumstance,and owns a brighter future.

Abstract:Adjustable speed drives (ASDs) equipped with 18-pulse converter front end provide input disturbance rejection and clean power quality in various practical applications. In recent years, active front end (AFE) converters with LCL filters have gained popularity because of their four quadrant operational capability and low input current harmonics performance. However, the caveat exists that there are challenges for AFEs in achieving low harmonics and system stability under generator or weak grid environment. A systematic and quantitative comparison on input current harmonics performance and system stability between 18-pulse and AFE converters cannot be found in published literatures. In this paper, a robust 75hp (55kW), 480V, 60Hz 18-pulse clean power converter with "windmill" autotransformer topology is presented and analyzed, along with a state-of-the-art equivalent power level AFE with LCL filter. Theoretical investigation on AFE system stability with LCL filter using pole-zero map and Bode diagram is presented, followed by simulation studies under weak grid condition. Under normal and weak grid conditions, experimental tests with a 75hp (55kW) "windmill" 18-pulse clean power ASD and a 10kW AFE system with LCL filter are used for validating the accuracy and effectiveness of the analytical findings.

Abstract:A novel hybrid active power filter (HAPF) controlled simultaneously by the harmonic voltage from the network and the harmonic current from the load is presented. A series parallel resonance passive filter is adopted. The theoretical analysis and compensation characteristics of the HAPF as well as design of the passive filter are given. The simulation results show that the HAPF is suitable for harmonics suppression for most of power electronic equipment.

Abstract:This paper presents a Hybrid Active Filter (HAF) used in the distribution network and is required for compensating reactive power in the load end and mitigate harmonics for the improvement of power quality. The compensation process used in this paper reduces number of sensors and also reduces the complication and depends on source current extraction. Initially for extraction of reference currents from harmonics surrounded line current, the Proportional-Integral (PI) or Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) is used, which controls the dc-link voltage of the inverter. The HAPF is designed with the use of Voltage Source Inverter (VSI). In this paper, an innovative approach called robust extended Kalman filter (RECKF) is implemented for reference current estimation/calculation using model predictive current (MPC). This RECKF-MPC essentially requires less number of voltage sensors and also overcome the problems associated with PI controllers like gain tuning. The new RECKF with MPC is compared with conventional PI and FLC and observed to be providing better performance to improve the power quality.

Abstract:A novel hybrid power filter topology was developed to economically filter harmonic currents in power systems. The rating and cost of its active filter are less than conventional hybrid filters. A passive filter maintains the network voltage while the fundamental resonance branch shunts the reactive current, which greatly reduces the rated current and voltage of the active filter. With the control strategy, the filter keeps the harmonic system voltage from generating harmonic currents and effectively prevents the harmonic load current from flowing to the upstream system. PSCAD/EMTP simulation results show that the active filter rating accounts for only 2.11% of the total rating while the THD (total harmonic distortion) of the system current is reduced to 4.15% with the filter.

Abstract:In medium and high voltage applications, hybrid active power filter (HAPF) play an important role among harmonic elimination methods. How to connect active compensator into high-voltage grid is a hot research topic. In this paper, a hybrid active power filter based on coupling inductor is proposed, where the passive filters are applied to filter out most harmonics, and the active filter is used to compensate the residual characteristic harmonics causing by tuning deviation of the passive filters and other harmonics. Due to the coupling inductor, the self-inductance is generally small, which limits possible high voltage at both sides of the coupling inductor. In order to obtain enough voltage for the capacitor at the dc side of the active converter to generate required compensating currents, a normalized signal of the coupling voltage is used as the unit active reference signal, so that all frequency components of the coupling voltage source can provide energy for the dc capacitor. For harmonic compensating a control strategy with a unified proportion controller and some auxiliary characteristic harmonic resonance controllers is presented. A comparative study of filtering effects by different filtering methods is carried out through simulation, and then does the control characteristics of the active converter, which shows super performance.

Abstract:Shunt Active Power Filters (APF) have been proved useful to compensate current harmonics in power grids. In traditional shunt APF, the passive filter, which serves as the output filter, is usually using uncoupled inductors. In this paper, the coupled inductors are adopted in place of traditional uncoupled ones. And both the equivalent circuit and the coupled inductor's selecting principle are given in detail. In addition, a decoupling control method is proposed without extra hardware cost. Consequently, the volume of the passive filter could be smaller and its cost could be cut down. Simulation results verify the feasibility and validity of the proposed coupled inductors scheme for shunt APF.

Abstract:Active power filter (APF) and passive filter (PF) combining to hybrid active power filter (HAPF) is the trend, which make up the inherent shortcomings of passive filtering devices and can make good use of the advantages of active power filters. This article makes researches on design of hybrid parallel active power filter, presents the detailed design method and the relation between inductor and dc-voltage. Meanwhile, this paper purposes two kinds of control strategies of HAPF for compensation current harmonic and damping voltage harmonic propagation, analyses its filtering and damping performance in detailed. In addition, generalized integrator is introduced to the control to improve the performance of HAPF. The experimental results validate that the hybrid active power filter has outstanding performance.

Abstract:This paper proposes a hybrid active power filter (HAPF) with multi-coupled coils, applied to a medium- and high-voltage power grid. The passive filter of the proposed HAPF adopts the structure of multi-coupled coils to compress the traditional multiple LC branches into one branch which presents the same harmonic impedance characteristics as the former multiple LC branches. In the active power filter of the HAPF, a coupled inductor, instead of a transformer, is used to connect with the passive filter. The coupled inductor has mutual inductances with inductors of the passive filter. Through spatial magnetic coupling, the active power filter can inject compensation current into the power grid to eliminate the residual harmonics and absorb active power from the power grid to maintain the DC capacitor voltage. When the active power filter is open-circuited or short-circuited, the filtering effect of the passive filter can still be guaranteed, which improves the reliability of the filter. The benefits of the proposed HAPF with excellent harmonic filtering performance are that the inductors occupy only 1/3 space as compared with traditional three-tuned LC filter, and very small power of the active power filter. The feasibility of the proposed HAPF is verified through simulations and experiment.

Abstract:the objective of this paper is to compare the effectiveness of DM active filter with different sensing method for a better performance in high power converters. With the noise model, the transfer function of two topologies are derived. The insert gain of two topologies are calculated and two prototypes are built for verification. Besides the hardware based on weight and volume are compared. The result shows that the voltage sensing AEF suits the high power application better.

Abstract:This paper proposes a new structure of tuned power inductors for hybrid active power filter (HAPF), featuring a hybrid magnetic core, distributed air gaps, and three-phase five-column structure. Detailed discussion of quality factor (Q), equivalent resistance (R-eq), power losses, inductance linearity and mutual inductance are provided. Analysis and experiments show that: by using hybrid magnetic cores combining silicon steel and ferrite cores, inductors with low R-eq, high Q value and. desired mechanical strength can be achieved; distributed air gaps are an effective methods to improve linearity and to avoid the fringe effect around large gaps; the three-phase five-column structure leads to very small mutual inductance from phase to phase, and each phase inductance can be tuned independently which is required by HAPE.The findings in this paper are validated by industrial tests with a 50 kVA HAPF s.

Abstract:Hybrid Active Power Filters (HAPFs) can effectively suppress harmonic current in power-lines, the compensation precision of which rely heavily on the design of the current loop and dc voltage controllers. In this paper, the operation principle of a transformerless HAPF is introduced and analyzed, and then a double closed loop control strategy with power-line current feedback and the fifth harmonic current feedback is proposed aiming at enhancing filtering characteristics at the fifth harmonic frequency. Finally, a dc voltage regulator is designed based on the system model of dc link voltage control. Experimental results obtained from a 380 V, 20 kVA experimental prototype verify the validity and effectiveness of the proposed control strategies for the transformerless hybrid filter, which has high compensation precision as well as fast dynamic response and also reduces the cost of the equipment since only two phases of power-line current are required to be detected.
