Abstract:The existing mechanisms of adsorptive desulfurization was reviewed from a view of the molecular diffusion and surface adsorption processes in several aspects: molecule size selection, acidic sites effect and the complexation between sorbents and sulfurides. New technologies of adsorptive desulfurization based on the above mechanisms were introduced. It had been indicated that mechanism research of desulfurization had a significant meaning for further development of novel sorbents and new desulfurization techniques.

Abstract:Anaerobic digestion (AD) is a biochemical process that converts materials of organic origin to majorly methane and carbon dioxide, but it also generates hydrogen sulfide (H2S), which is detrimental to the AD process and facility handling. The H2S dissolved in the digestate can also cause environmental pollution and can impact human health negatively. To mitigate H2S in biogas, ex situ and in situ desulfurization technologies are usually employed. Desulfurization using in situ technologies does not need auxiliary facilities attached to the AD reactors, which makes it less cumbersome and costly. The commonly used in situ desulfurization technologies, including metal sulfide precipitation, adsorption, microaeration, chemical and electrochemical oxidation, are discussed in this chapter, with respect to the basic processes, mechanisms involved, factors affecting the performance, and their advantages and disadvantages, and their industrial applications. The future perspective of research and development of each of the technologies are also discussed.
Study and optimization of catalytic oxidation technology in spent caustic desulfurization

Abstract:The catalyst was prepared by using iron salt and manganese salt as active matter. Using the pre-pared catalyst, the ethylene pent caustic was oxidized at atmospheric pressure and low temperature by using air as oxidant. The influence of reaction temperature,reaction time,air,catalyst concentration etc. on the desulfurization efficiency was investigated. The result showed that the reaction temperature was 50 ℃,the reaction time was 20 min,air was 40 L/h,the catalyst concentration was 10 mg/L. The pre-pared composite catalysts have good catalytic activity,the S2- conversion rate was 99. 7％. The technology has some advantages,for example,use amount of catalyst was very low,reaction time was short. The tech-nology achieved good effect in the chemical plant,it has a good application prospect.

Abstract:Several important aspects of the flue gas purification and sulfur recovery technology using temperature swing adsorption (TSA) by carbonaceous methods in moving beds,including the background,principles,technology characteristics,industrial application progress,technological conditions,current status,development trend,and economic evaluation were reviewed. At the same time,other flue gas purification and sulfur recovery technology by carbonaceous methods were also introduced. The industrial application of this technology,technology evolution,advantages and disadvantages were analyzed and discussed. Meanwhile,the optimum technological conditions were presented,the current status was analyzed,and the development trend was commented. The economic analysis of this technology was evaluated and compared with other technologies. This technology will find wide applications in domestic environmental areas in the future.

Abstract:The mechanism and characteristics of various wet flue gas desulfurization (WFGD) technologies were reviewed. Lime/limestone system and sodium alkali may be utilized in single pass desulfurization process, but may cause secondary environmental pollution. For ammonia method, the key factor is the stabilization of the ammonia in the desulfurization solution. Alcohol-amine desulfurization and biodesulfurization methods need the regeneration of the solution in order to decrease losses and keep the performance of the solutions. The regeneration process of the desulfurization solutions containing sulfur compounds assisted by microorganism, as a new method, will represent the trend of development.

Separation and Purification Technology

Abstract:Through the purification technology of flue gas desulfurization, ultralow emissions of SO2 flue gas in industrial flue gas can be achieved. This article involves dry desulfurization, semi-dry desulfurization, and wet desulfurization technologies. The research progress of these technologies since they were first proposed is summarized, and the problems existing in these desulfurization technologies are analyzed. The theory of mass transfer and absorption in flue gas desulfurization is summarized, and the optimal desulfurization process parameters for the operation of desulfurization technology are obtained. A high added value production of desulfurization technology can be realized by studying the recycling of desulfurization products. This paper summarizes the characteristics and the latest research progress of various desulfurization technologies, and aims to provide help for the better development of desulfurization technologies. It also provides suggestions for the future research direction of desulfurization technology.

Abstract:Coal combustion is the biggest pollution source for China's air pollution. Flue Gas Desulfurization(FGD) is effective and available to greatly reduce SO2 emission, yet it is very expensive. Several low-cost and effective FGD technologies were developed in China by joint research efforts of Japanese and Chinese experts. This paper introduces several new technologies such as wet liquid column FGD, semi-dry CFB-FGD, low-NOx pulverized-coal combustion and the fly ash emission control, and in particular reports the situations of the technologies development and main technological characteristics.

Abstract:With the increased requirements for fully using carbon resources and removing H 2 S from flue gas, chelated-iron wet desulfurization technology has gained popularity due to the advantages of high desulfurization efficiency, stable reaction, and low desulfurization cost, etc. In this review, the current commonly used chelates-iron processes, the parameters (such as chelated-iron composition, pH, G/L ratio, and temperature, etc.) and the advantages and drawbacks of the processes in application were thoroughly discussed. The state of art regeneration methods, as well as the research status of the kinetic analysis in desulfurization and regeneration processes, were summarized. In order to address the issues that exist in the actual application of chelated-iron desulfurization process, a possible clean cycle chelated-iron desulfurization system was presented based on the remaining problems in the application of the current process. This novel technology enabled the conversion of valuable resources into high-value added products such as elemental sulfur and high-purity ammonium sulfate, as well as the efficient and low-cost regeneration of regenerate chelated-iron catalysts.

Abstract:The main components of polymer carboxyl group are introduced.The effects of macromolecular carboxyl groups on the limestone-gypsum wet flue gas desulfurization (FGD) system of coal-fired power plants in China were studied by test method. The results showed that the macromolecular carboxyl groups can accelerate the chemical absorption of SO2 under the action of active agents and crystallization agents, improve the desulfurization efficiency of about 2%, and shorten the limestone ablation time of more than 40%, catalytic calcium sulfite oxidation of calcium sulfate.

Abstract:Biological Flue Gas Desulfurization(FGD) with the advantages of low energy consumption,low cost and no pollution has become one of research hot areas.The working mechanism,research and application,development prospect of biological FGD technology at home and abroad were introduced in this paper.The results show that the research key to biological FGD technology lies in looking for the appropriate bacteria,understanding the metabolism pathway and enhancing the desulfurization efficiency.In addition,it proposed to place emphasis on the breeding of high efficiency functional bacteria,molecular genetics research of desulfurizing bacteria and development of biological reactor;meanwhile the industrialization of the technology should be accelerated.

Abstract:Reduction of sulfur emission can be achieved via strengthening the desulfurization efficiency of the refining dry gas and LPG and increasing the sulfur reclamation of the sulfur recovery unit. Minimization of NH 3 N discharge can be realized through strengthening the steam stripping efficiency of sour water and improving the performance of the wastewater biological treatment facilities.Decreasing the generation and disposal amount of caustic sludge can be accomplished by adopting cleaner technologies and recycling caustic sludge. The “three sludge”problem can be settled by using a coke tower to dispose the “three sludge”.

Abstract:The blast furnace gas, a low-calorific value fuel, is worthy of recycling. However, the sulfuric contents in blast furnace gases would cause pipeline corrosion and air pollution that are adverse to reutilization of blast furnace gases. Therefore, desulfurization technologies of blast furnace gas are necessary, which have been recently attracting much attention. This article clarifies main sources and forms of sulfur in blast furnace gases. Then, COS/H2S removal methods that are commonly used are introduced. In fact, blast furnace gases usually exist in low-temperature and low-pressure conditions, whose major components are N-2/CO/CO2/H-2 and minor components are sulfide/chloride. When blast furnace gases are used as a fuel, the sulfuric component will be converted into SO2 that causes severe air pollution to atmospheric environments. However, according to recent findings, once sulfides are removed ahead of the utilization process of blast furnace gases, other air-polluting components (e.g., hydrogen chloride) could be also removed via synergistic effects. In light of these characteristics, this article discusses the feasibility of various desulfurization methods suitable for blast furnace gases with the aim to provide useful information for the development of blast furnace gas desulfurization technologies.
