Abstract:In this paper we characterize when the product of two block Toeplitz operators is a compact perturbation of a block Toeplitz operator on the Hardy space of the open unit disk. Necessary and sufficient conditions are given for the commutator of two block Toeplitz operators to be compact.

Several conditions equivalent to compactness of Tfg − TfTg are given. Abstract:A truncated Toeplitz operator is the compression of a classical Toeplitz operator on the Hardy space to a model space. A truncated Hankel operator is the compression of a Hankel operator on the Hardy space to the orthogonal complement of a model space. We study the product of a truncated Hankel operator and a truncated Toeplitz operator, and characterize when such a product is zero or compact.

Abstract:In this paper we prove that if S equals a finite sum of finite products of Toeplitz operators on the Bergman space of the unit disk, then S is compact if and only if the Berezin transform of S equals 0 on partial derivative D. This result is new even when S equals a single Toeplitz operator. Our main result can be used to prove, via a unified approach, several previously known results about compact Toeplitz operators, compact Hankel operators, and appropriate products of these operators.

Abstract:In this paper we completely characterize finite rank semicommutator or commutator of two Toeplitz operators with bounded harmonic symbols on the Bergman space. We show that if the product of two Toeplitz operators with bounded harmonic symbols has finite rank, then one of the Toeplitz operators must be zero.

Abstract:If Ω is a smoothly bounded multiply-connected domain in the complex plane and S belongs to the Toeplitz algebra τ of the Bergman space of Ω, we show that S is compact if and only if its Berezin transform vanishes at the boundary of Ω. We also show that every element S in T, the C⁎-subalgebra of τ generated by Toeplitz operators with symbols in H∞(Ω), has a canonical decomposition S=TS˜+R for some R in the commutator ideal CT; and S is in CT iff the Berezin transform S˜ vanishes identically on the set M1 of trivial Gleason parts.

Abstract:We consider the question for which square integrable analytic functions f and g on the unit disk the densely defined products TfTg are bounded on the Bergman space. We prove results analogous to those obtained by the second author [17] for such Toeplitz products on the Hardy space. We furthermore obtain similar results for Hankel products HfH*g, where f and g are square integrable on the unit disk, and for the mixed Haplitz products HfTg and TgH*f, where f and g are square integrable on the unit disk and g is analytic.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the product problem of Toeplitz operators on the Bergman space of the unit disk. We characterize when the product of two Toeplitz operators TfTg is a finite rank perturbation of another Toeplitz operator Th, with f, g bounded harmonic and h in C2 class with invariant Laplacian in L1. As a consequence, we show that there is no nontrivial rank one perturbation. However, in the case rank m≥2, we construct an example that shows there are bounded harmonic functions f, g and h such that TfTg−Th has rank exactly m.

Abstract:We consider the dual Toeplitz operators acting on the orthogonal complements of Hardy–Sobolev spaces of the unit ball. We first characterize the compactness of finite sums of dual Toeplitz products. Using this result, we next study the problem of when finite sums of products of two dual Toeplitz operators is another dual Toeplitz operator. Our results extend several known results on the Dirichlet spaces to the Hardy–Sobolev spaces.
