Abstract:In the classical Hardy space $H^2(\mathbb{D})$, it is well-known that the kernel of the Hankel operator is invariant under the action of shift operator S and sometimes nearly invariant under the action of backward shift operator $S^{*}$. It appears in this paper that kernels of finite rank perturbations of Hankel operators are almost shift invariant as well as nearly $S^*$- invariant with finite defect. This allows us to obtain a structure of the kernel in several important cases by applying a recent theorem due to Chalendar, Gallardo, and Partington.

Abstract:Integral Hankel operators on vector-valued -function spaces are considered. Regularity (integrability) and compactness properties of the kernel are shown to give rise to quantifiable regularity and compactness properties of the Hankel operator, and consequently of the associated singular vectors (also called Schmidt pairs), which finds relevance in model order reduction schemes. As demonstrated, strong- Lebesgue and Sobolev spaces naturally arise in the case that U is infinite dimensional. The theory is illustrated with examples.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the boundedness and the compactness of the little Hankel operators $h_b$ with operator-valued symbols $b$ between different weighted vector-valued Bergman spaces on the open unit ball $\mathbb{B}_n$ in $\mathbb{C}^n.$ More precisely, given two complex Banach spaces $X,Y,$ and $0 < p,q \leq 1,$ we characterize those operator-valued symbols $b: \mathbb{B}_{n}\rightarrow \mathcal{L}(\overline{X},Y)$ for which the little Hankel operator $h_{b}: A^p_{\alpha}(\mathbb{B}_{n},X) \longrightarrow A^q_{\alpha}(\mathbb{B}_{n},Y),$ is a bounded operator. Also, given two reflexive complex Banach spaces $X,Y$ and $1 < p \leq q < \infty,$ we characterize those operator-valued symbols $b: \mathbb{B}_{n}\rightarrow \mathcal{L}(\overline{X},Y)$ for which the little Hankel operator $h_{b}: A^p_{\alpha}(\mathbb{B}_{n},X) \longrightarrow A^q_{\alpha}(\mathbb{B}_{n},Y),$ is a compact operator.

Abstract:A truncated Toeplitz operator is the compression of a classical Toeplitz operator on the Hardy space to a model space. A truncated Hankel operator is the compression of a Hankel operator on the Hardy space to the orthogonal complement of a model space. We study the product of a truncated Hankel operator and a truncated Toeplitz operator, and characterize when such a product is zero or compact.

Abstract:This paper is about the operators defined between Köthe spaces whose associated matrix is a Hankel matrix. After demonstrating how these operators are defined, the conditions for continuity and compactness of these operators are constructed. It is shown that the backward and forward shift operators are mean ergodic and Cesàro bounded by establishing a relationship between the backward and forward shift operators and Hankel and Toeplitz operators on power series spaces.

Abstract:In this paper we completely characterize compact Toeplitz operators on the harmonic Bergman space. By using this result we establish the short exact sequences associated with the Toeplitz algebra and the Hankel algebra. We show that the Fredholm index of each Fredholm operator in the Toeplitz algebra or the Hankel algebra is zero.

Abstract:We study small Hankel operators $h_b$ with operator-valued holomorphic symbol $b$ on a class of vector-valued Fock type spaces. We show that the boundedness / compactness of $h_b$ is equivalent to the membership of $b$ to a specific growth space, which is described via a Littlewood-Paley type condition and a Bergman type projection, and estimate the norm of $h_b$. We also establish some properties of duality and density for these Fock spaces.

Abstract:The characterization of the boundedness of operators induced by Hankel matrices on analytic function spaces can be traced back to the work of Z. Nehari and H. Widom on the Hardy space, and has been extensively studied on many other analytic function spaces recently. However, this question remains open in the context of the Dirichlet space [20]. By Carleson measures, the Widom type condition and the reproducing kernel thesis, this paper provides a comprehensive solution to this question. As a beneficial product, characterizations of the boundedness and compactness of operators induced by Cesàro type matrices on the Dirichlet space are given. In addition, we also show that a random Dirichlet function almost surely induces a compact Hankel type operator on the Dirichlet space.

Abstract:This paper studies stability of essential spectra of self-adjoint subspaces (i.e., self-adjoint linear relations) under finite rank and compact perturbations in Hilbert spaces. Relationships between compact perturbation of closed subspaces and relatively compact perturbation of their operator parts are first established. This gives a characterization of compact perturbation in terms of difference between the operator parts of perturbed and unperturbed subspaces. It is shown that a self-adjoint subspace is still self-adjoint under either relatively bounded perturbation with relative bound less than one or relatively compact perturbation or compact perturbation with a certain additional condition. By using these results, invariance of essential spectra of self-adjoint subspaces is proved under relatively compact and compact perturbations, separately. As a special case, finite rank perturbation is discussed. The results obtained in this paper generalize the corresponding results for self-adjoint operators to self-adjoint subspaces.

Abstract:In their previous work, the authors proved the Berger-Coburn phenomenon for compact and Schatten $S_p$ class Hankel operators $H_f$ on generalized Fock spaces when $1<p<\infty$, that is, for a bounded symbol $f$, if $H_f$ is a compact or Schatten class operator, then so is $H_{\bar f}$. More recently J.~Xia has provided a simple example that shows that there is no Berger-Coburn phenomenon for trace class Hankel operators on the classical Fock space $F^2$. Using Xia's example, we show that there is no Berger-Coburn phenomena for Schatten $S_p$ class Hankel operators on generalized Fock spaces $F^2_\varphi$ for any $0<p\le 1$. Our approach is based on the characterization of Schatten class Hankel operators while Xia's approach is elementary and heavily uses the explicit basis vectors of $F^2$, which cannot be found for the weighted Fock spaces that we consider. We also formulate four open problems.

This article is devoted study the measures $\mu$ for which $\mathcal{H}_{\mu,\alpha }$ is a bounded(resp., compact) operator from $H^p(0<p\le1)$ into $H^p(1\le q<\infty)$. Then, we also study the analogous problem in the Hardy spaces $H^p(1\le p\le2)$. Finally, we obtain the essential norm of $\mathcal{H}_{\mu,\alpha}$ from $H^p(0<p\le1)$ into $H^p(1\le q<\infty)$.

Abstract:In this paper we investigate when a finite sum of products of two Toeplitz operators with quasihomogeneous symbols is a finite rank perturbation of another Toeplitz operator on the Bergman space. We discover a noncommutative convolution $\diamond$ on the space of quasihomogeneous functions and use it in solving the problem. Our main results show that if $F_j, G_j$ ($1\leq j\leq N$) are polynomials of $z$ and $\bar{z}$ then $\sum_{j=1}^{N}T_{F_j}T_{G_j}-T_{H}$ is a finite rank operator for some $L^{1}$-function $H$ if and only if $\sum_{j=1}^{N}F_j\diamond G_j$ belongs to $L^1$ and $H=\sum_{j=1}^{N}F_j\diamond G_j$. In the case $F_j$'s are holomorphic and $G_j$'s are conjugate holomorphic, it is shown that $H$ is a solution to a system of first order partial differential equations with a constraint.
