Abstract:This paper tests the performance of melt-blown non-woven fabric materials.Analysis and comparisons of the different samples weight,the breaking strength,the breaking elongation,the amount of breathable,and the water vapor permeability,etc.It was found that there are certain relationships between the non-woven material breaking strength,the breaking elongation,the amount of breathable,moisture permeability and thickness of the volume and weight.Obtained melt-blown non-woven fabric,spunbonded non-woven fabric and SMS nonwovens and so each have unique properties.It is suitable for development the various functional products in the textile industry on a wide range of applications.

Abstract:Textile Research Journal, Ahead of Print. Melt-blown nonwovens with smaller fiber diameters and fewer roping defects are good candidates for air filtration. However, there have been few publications of experimental work reducing the fiber diameter and improving the roping defects of melt-blown nonwovens at the same time. Here, we reported an electrostatic-induction-assisted melt-blowing (EIMB) process by introducing an induced electrostatic field to the conventional MB process. The EIMB process is based on a commercial process without interfering or charging the polymer jet before spinning. Therefore, the production efficiency of the EIMB process is the same as the conventional MB process. The numerical simulation method was employed to investigate the effects of the electrode width on the melt-blown airflow field since the electrode width is a critical parameter that affects the stability of the MB airflow field. Benefiting from the introduction of the electrostatic field, melt-blown nonwovens with smaller fiber diameters and fewer roping defects were obtained using the EIMB technology. Compared to the conventional MB process, the EIMB process dramatically improved the filtration performance and reduced the energy consumption.

Abstract:<p>Nanofibers are used in various fields and applications, such as medical care, environment protection, apparel, and agriculture; it is believed that they will continue to show substantial growth in the future. In this study, we focused on the filtration application of nanofibers. The filtration performances achieved polymeric nanofiber mass production by a melt-blowing method. First, the filtration performances of the fiber were experimentally tested with different thicknesses. Then, the computational fluid dynamics flow-analyzing software was used to simulate the pressure loss and flow resistivity of the trial-produced filter under the same conditions as those used in the experiment. Then, a three-directional physical model was proposed and used to calculate the fiber's gap size with different diameters under the same filling rate and the assumption that the fibers always exhibit uniform distribution. Consequently, it was confirmed that the trial-produced non-woven filter possessed excellent filtration abilities and that the investigated data can be used as a standard to manufacture non-woven fabric for producing high-performance filters and face masks. However, the manufacturing method of non-woven fabric filters must be investigated to satisfy both high particle filtration efficiency and low pressure loss in order to develop a high-performance filter.</p>

Abstract:At standard temperature and relative humidity conditions,the two kinds of melt-blown nonwoven fabric thin thickness,surface density,tensile strength,tear strength,abrasion resistance,bending resistance,air permeability and moisture permeability and other indicators of testing and analysis,found that most of the performance with the meltblown nonwoven fabric areal density and thickness of a certain correlation with the other non-woven adhesive and the need to fully reflect its unique and excellent performance.

Abstract:In the present work, approaches of the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation, the Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) measurement, and the spinning experiment were applied to investigate the phenomenon of air recirculation in blunt-die melt-blown airflow. Firstly, the characteristics of air recirculation were explored by CFD simulation. The simulation results predicted that the air recirculation generated a lateral air velocity along the nose-piece direction. Then, the air circulation was experimental verified by using PIV technique. The PIV results confirmed the predicted conclusions of CFD simulation. Finally, the effect of air recirculation on the microfiber spinning during the melt-blown process was experimentally investigated by a spinning experiment using a blunt die with nose-piece width of 2.56 mm. The spinning results indicated that the air circulation had a tendency of splitting the normal polymeric stream, which played negative effect on the continuity of microfiber spinning. This work is expected to provide some clues to melt-blown die design and the quality control of nonwoven products.

Abstract:In contrast to the commonly used nondegradable melt-blown nonwovens, polylactic acid (PLA) melt-blown nonwovens are renewable and biodegradable, making them very environmentally friendly at their end of life. However, the strength and toughness of PLA melt-blown nonwovens are generally insufficient for practical applications. Herein, we report a straightforward and universal strategy for fabricating PLA melt-blown nonwovens with superior mechanical properties. In this process, hierarchical controlling of the high-temperature and high-speed airflow considerably increases the polymeric chain orientation and crystallization of PLA. High-molecular-weight (Mw) PLA polymeric chains can be entangled to reduce the negative effect of excessive polymeric chain orientation on elongation, resulting in a gain in strength and toughness at the same time. The resulting PLA melt-blown nonwovens exhibit enhanced strength (1.8 MPa, up by 157%), higher elongation (35.6%, up by 256%), and excellent toughness (0.59 MJ/m3, up by 788%). Additionally, a plausible tensile failure mechanism for melt-blown nonwovens is proposed based on the tensile fracture process. Strikingly, the PLA melt-blown nonwovens exhibit high particulate matter (PM0.3), removal efficiency (92.6%), and low pressure drop (12.3 Pa). The successful preparation of PLA melt-blown nonwovens with superior mechanical properties will satiate the growing demand for sustainability, personal protection, and environmental protection.

Study on Void Formation in Multi-Layer Woven Fabrics

Abstract:The presence of voids has a deleterious effect on composites mechanical properties. In this paper, two simplified unit cells for in-plane impregnation in multi-layer woven fabrics (MWFs) have been suggested. A mathematical model has been developed to describe the mechanism of void formation during RTM processes. The flow fronts and void formation in these two cells were also numerically simulated using control-volume method. The simulated results agree well with the result predicted by the mathematical model. The results show that, for a given fiber preform the ratio of weft axial permeability Kba and warp transverse permeability Kbt is responsible for the size of void.

Abstract:Melt blowing is a major process for producing nanofibrous nonwovens. Compared to another technology for producing nanofibrous nonwovens, electrospinning, melt blowing applies high-speed air flow field to attenuate the extruded polymer jet. It is known that the essential electrospinning mechanism is a rapidly whipping jet in an electric field. While there are few studies on the fiber whipping in the melt-blowing process. In this study, a high-speed camera was used to capture the fiber path below a single-orifice melt-blowing swirl die. The spiral path of the fiber was revealed. The characteristics of the whipping amplitude, whipping frequency, and the fiber velocity were obtained. Fiber diameter reduction ratio contributed by the spiral path was calculated by establishing a mathematical model. The study indicates that spiral path of the whipping plays an important role in fiber attenuation near the die.

Abstract:Blown bubble-spinning was recently explored for the effective fabrication of nanofibrous yarns in a one-step process. In this study, air-flow’s temperature and velocity, which play the key role in the formation and morphology of nanofibers, are investigated and optimized. The present study offers a beneficial opportunity for the scale-up production of nanofibrous yarns in the future.

The model can simultaneously simulate the asymmetric melt flow with compressible fluid during the filling and postfilling stages, combine fiber fracture and orientation behaviors induced by melt flow and couple the melt flow and fiber orientation.
