Abstract:Considering the difficulties of college students' employment today, we analyzed the psychological reason in the background of informatization. From the students' psychological motivation, we presented the three contradictions that the college students were experiencing in job hunting: the contradiction between the individual and society, between the individual and family, and in the individual itself. With the advent of the digital age, the college students today are called "digital natives" who have grown up with digital technology and Internet, and it is claimed that they have developed quite different thinking styles from the previous generations. Based on the analysis of the social informatization, we argue that students should develop the psychological characteristics of initiative, activity, and independence, to achieve the changes in accessing information, processing the information, and choosing a career in coordination with the digital age, to reach the balance of personal values, family values, and social values in employment.

Abstract:Sci-tech novelty retrieval is is not only an advanced comprehensive information service,but also an important phase in the scientization and standardization of scientific research management.The quality of novelty retrieval directly affects the evaluation of scientific research findings.Therefore,it is an important phase in novelty retrieval management to establish a scientific,comprehensive and practical novelty retrieval quality evaluation indicators system,appraise the quality of novelty retrieval objectively and equitably,and consequently control the quality of novelty retrieval roundly and effectively.A combination of qualitative research and quantitative research was adopted,and the method of Delphi was applied in the design of novelty retrieval quality evaluation indicators.After two rounds of experts' questionnaire survey,with comprehensive consideration on the advices and suggestions of experts,The indicators system includes 3 first level indicators,9 second level indicators and 26 third level indicators.

Abstract:U.S.News & World Report ranking of graduate schools is an important part of its university ranking. Indexes,data sources and the statistical method of graduate schools ranking are based on the characters of graduate schools,which are scientific and operable;Graduate schools ranking appearance in China is late and the ranking methodology is from other countries.Though we also focus on the characters of graduate schools in China, ranking indexes,data sources and the characters of different graduate schools are inferior to the methodology of U.S.News & World Report ranking of graduate schools.Consequently,we should focus on the relationship between the particularity of graduate schools and the ranking methodology in order to achieve the localization of ranking methodology.

Then it develops the positivist analysis around the problems such as selecting titles, research content, research focus, research hotspot as well as the orientation of research objective and methods. Meanwhile, it also reviews current situation and development of the discipline research and major construction of Educational Technology from various dimensions. Finally, it sums up some relevant enlightenment from above analysis.

Abstract:Purpose This study aims to analyze the distribution of novelty among scholarly papers in the field of library and information science (LIS) in China. Specifically, this study explores the distribution of novelty of papers in various journals, research topics and different periods. It is possible to understand the characteristics of LIS research in China and what factors have influenced it. Design/methodology/approach This paper collects articles published in Chinese library science journals indexed by the Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index from 2000 to 2022. The BERTopic model is used based on abstracts of the papers and to obtain the topic of each paper. Based on the combination innovation theory of reference pairs cited by focal papers, novelty scores of all papers are calculated. Next, this paper analyzes the novelty of papers under different topics. Finally, this paper analyzes the differences in author collaboration patterns across various topics, aiming to explain how these differences relate to the novelty of papers from a collaborative perspective. Findings This study shows that archival research topics have lower novelty than papers on journal evaluation and patent technology in Chinese LIS. Research papers in this field are gradually becoming more novel over time. Papers on different topics and with varying degrees of novelty exhibit distinct author collaboration patterns, with low-novelty topics more frequently featuring solo authorship, while high-novelty topics tend to involve a higher percentage of inter-institutional collaboration. Originality/value This study investigates the novelty characteristics of research papers on different topics in the field of LIS in China. The authors' contribution includes visualizing research hotspots and trends in the field and analyzing authors' collaboration patterns at the level of research topics, thereby providing new perspectives on the factors affecting the novelty of these papers.

A Content-Based Novelty Measure for Scholarly Publications: A Proof of Concept

Abstract:Novelty, akin to gene mutation in evolution, opens possibilities for scholarly advancement. Although peer review remains the gold standard for evaluating novelty in scholarly communication and resource allocation, the vast volume of submissions necessitates an automated measure of scholarly novelty. Adopting a perspective that views novelty as the atypical combination of existing knowledge, we introduce an information-theoretic measure of novelty in scholarly publications. This measure quantifies the degree of 'surprise' perceived by a language model that represents the word distribution of scholarly discourse. The proposed measure is accompanied by face and construct validity evidence; the former demonstrates correspondence to scientific common sense, and the latter is endorsed through alignment with novelty evaluations from a select panel of domain experts. Additionally, characterized by its interpretability, fine granularity, and accessibility, this measure addresses gaps prevalent in existing methods. We believe this measure holds great potential to benefit editors, stakeholders, and policymakers, and it provides a reliable lens for examining the relationship between novelty and academic dynamics such as creativity, interdisciplinarity, and scientific advances.

Abstract:This article reports the result of an empirical study of information behavior of academic novice.The target group of this study is 151 Third-year undergraduate students.To finish difficult course papers,students are required to record in detail the search strategy,retrieval process,search results and thinking in information retrieval.Content analysis is used to detect the behavior of choice of database,search fields,sort and limited options,the relation between the number of research result and refine search,and query building.This paper explores six search models of academic novice,including bibliometric mode,reference mode,core journals mode,search engine mode,progressive mode and conventional mode.

Abstract:The novelty of knowledge claims in a research paper can be considered an evaluation criterion for papers to supplement citations. To provide a foundation for research evaluation from the perspective of innovativeness, we propose an automatic approach for extracting innovative ideas from the abstracts of technology and engineering papers. The approach extracts N-grams as candidates based on part-of-speech tagging and determines whether they are novel by checking the Scopus® database to determine whether they had ever been presented previously. Moreover, we discussed the distributions of innovative ideas in different abstract structures. To improve the performance by excluding noisy N-grams, a list of stop-words and a list of research description characteristics were developed. We selected abstracts of articles published from 2011 to 2017 with the topic of semantic analysis as the experimental texts. Excluding noisy N-grams, considering the distribution of innovative ideas in abstracts, and suitably combining N-grams can effectively improve the performance of automatic innovative idea extraction. Unlike co-word and co-citation analysis, innovative-idea extraction aims to identify the differences in a paper from all previously published papers.

Abstract:It is of great significance to enhance the academic innovation ability of college students to promote the in-depth development of higher education. A questionnaire survey was conducted around the degree of emphasis on graduation thesis by students and universities, the source of topics, and the embodiment of their own academic ability. Students have weak awareness of discovery, lack of innovative thinking, topic selection divorced from reality, and lack of communication and discussion with tutors and students in the process of writing a graduation thesis. It is suggested to cultivate students' innovative thinking, improve their "quality awareness" of graduation thesis, build a scientific research training platform, train students' academic writing ability through multiple channels, and enhance their academic innovation ability in collaboration to ensure the quality of graduation thesis.
