Abstract:We prove that an aggregate Toeplitz operator on the Fréchet space of all entire functions is a Fredholm operator if and only if its symbol does not vanish. The result is motivated by and closely resembles the classical result of Gohberg and Douglas from the Hardy space theory of Toeplitz operators. There are however some subtle differences which we also discuss.

Abstract:Let G be a finite abelian group with |G| > 1. Let a (1), aEuro broken vertical bar, a (k) be k distinct elements of G and let b (1), aEuro broken vertical bar, b (k) be (not necessarily distinct) elements of G, where k is a positive integer smaller than the least prime divisor of |G|. We show that there is a permutation pi on {1, aEuro broken vertical bar,k} such that a (1) b (pi(1)), aEuro broken vertical bar, a (k) b (pi(k)) are distinct, provided that any other prime divisor of |G| (if there is any) is greater than k!. This in particular confirms the Dasgupta-Karolyi-Serra-Szegedy conjecture for abelian p-groups. We also pose a new conjecture involving determinants and characters, and show that its validity implies Snevily's conjecture for abelian groups of odd order. Our methods involve exterior algebras and characters.

Abstract:Abstract Recently the authors characterized the Fredholmn properties of Toeplitz operators on weighted Fock spaces when the Laplacian of the weight function is bounded below and above. In the present work the authors extend their characterization to doubling Fock spaces with a subharmonic weight whose Laplacian is a doubling measure. The geometry induced by the Bergman metric for doubling Fock spaces is much more complicated than that of the Euclidean metric used in all the previous cases to study Fredholmness, which leads to considerably more involved calculations.

Abstract:Let G be a discrete abelian group and (G, G(+)) an ordered group. Denote by (G,G(F)) the minimal quasily ordered group containing (G,G(+)). In this paper, we show that the ideal of finite elements is exactly the kernel of the natural morphism between these two Toeplitz C*-algebras. When G is countable, we show that if the direct sum of K groups K-0(T-G+)+K-1(T-G+) congruent to Z, then K-0(T-G+) congruent to Z.

Abstract:In this paper, we study defect operators and Fredholmness for Toeplitz pairs with inner symbols on both the Hardy spaces H-2(D) and H-2(D-2). The defect operator theory is closely related to function theory on the unit disk and the bidisk. Fredholmness of Toeplitz pairs on H-2(D-2) with rational inner symbols is completely characterized. We also establish an index formula for a general isometric pair.

Abstract:Abstract We characterize Fredholmness of Toeplitz operators acting on generalized Fock spaces of the n -dimensional complex space for symbols in the space of vanishing mean oscillation VMO. Our results extend the recent characterizations for Toeplitz operators on standard weighted Fock spaces to the setting of generalized weight functions and also allow for unbounded symbols in VMO for the first time. Another novelty is the treatment of small exponents 0 < p < 1, which to our knowledge has not been seen previously in the study of the Fredholm properties of Toeplitz operators on any function spaces. We accomplish this by describing the dual of the generalized Fock spaces with small exponents.

Abstract:We reconsider studies of Toeplitz operators on function spaces (the weighted Bergman space, the generalized derivative Hardy space) and the H-Toeplitz operators on the Bergman space. Past studies have considered the presence or absence of hyponormality or questions of contractivity or expansivity; we provide structure theorems for these operators that allow us to recapture, and often considerably improve, these results. In some cases these operators or their adjoints are actually in more restrictive classes, such as subnormal or moment infinitely divisible ($\mathcal{MID}$).

Abstract:We prove several results concerning the theory of Toeplitz algebras over $p$-Fock spaces using a correspondence theory of translation invariant symbol and operator spaces. The most notable results are: The full Toeplitz algebra is the norm closure of all Toeplitz operators with bounded uniformly continuous symbols. This generalizes a result obtained by J. Xia (J. Funct. Anal. 269:781-814, 2015) in the case $p = 2$, which was proven by different methods. Further, we prove that every Toeplitz algebra which has a translation invariant $C^\ast$ subalgebra of the bounded uniformly continuous functions as its set of symbols is linearly generated by Toeplitz operators with the same space of symbols.

Abstract:We consider various classes of bounded operators on the Fock space $F^2$ of Gaussian square integrable entire functions over the complex plane. These include Toeplitz (type) operators, weighted composition operators, singular integral operators, Volterra-type operators and Hausdorff operators and range from classical objects in harmonic analysis to more recently introduced classes. As a leading problem and closely linked to well-known compactness characterizations we pursue the question of when these operators are contained in the Toeplitz algebra. This paper combines a (certainly in-complete) survey of the classical and more recent literature including new ideas for proofs from the perspective of quantum harmonic analysis (QHA). Moreover, we have added a number of new theorems and links between known results.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to develop a systematic B-Fredholm theory in semiprime Banach algebras. We first generalize Smyth's important punctured neighbourhood theorem to B-Fredholm elements. Then using this result, we investigate the local spectral theory of B-Fredholm elements, including the localized left (resp. right) SVEP and a classification of components of B-Fredholm resolvent set. Finally, in semisimple Banach algebra context, we characterize element $f$ such that $f^{n}$ belongs to the socle for some $n \in \mathbb{N}$ from two different perspectives: one is the invariance of the B-Fredholm spectrum under commuting perturbation $f$, the other is the Rieszness and the B-Fredholmness of $f$.

Abstract:Usually, the norm closure of a family of operators is not equal to the $C^*$-algebra generated by this family of operators. But, similar with the Bergman space $L^2_a(\textbf{B}, dv)$ of the unit ball in $\mathbb{C}^n$, we show that the norm closure of $\{T_f : f\in L^{\infty}(\mathbb{D}, dv)\}$ on Bergman space $L^2_a(\mathbb{D}, dv)$ of the ploydisk $\mathbb{D}$ in $\mathbb{C}^n$ actually coincides with the Toeplitz algebra $\mathcal{T}(\mathbb{D})$. A key ingredient in the proof is the class of operators $\mathcal{D}$ recently introduced by Yi Wang and Jingbo Xia. In fact, as a by-product, we simultaneously proved that $\mathcal{T}(\mathbb{D})$ also coincides with $\mathcal{D}$. Based on these results, we further proved that the essential commutant of Toeplitz algebra $\mathcal{T}(\mathbb{D})$ equals to $\{T_g: g\in VO_{bdd}\} + \mathcal{K}$ where $VO_{bdd}$ is the collection of functions of vanishing oscillation on polydisk $\mathbb{D}$ and $\mathcal{K}$ denotes the collection of compact operators on $L^2_a(\mathbb{D}, dv)$. On the other hand, we also prove that the essential commutant of $\{T_g: g\in VO_{bdd}\}$ is $\mathcal{T}(\mathbb{D})$, which implies that image of $\mathcal{T}(\mathbb{D})$ in the Calkin algebra satisfies the double commutant relation: $\pi(\mathcal{T}(\mathbb{D}))=\pi(\mathcal{T}(\mathbb{D}))''$.

Complex Analysis and Operator Theory

Abstract:We study the algebra generated by all Toeplitz operators on the Fréchet space of all entire functions and all functions holomorphic in the unit disk. In both cases we prove that the quotient algebra by the commutator ideal can be equipped with a locally convex topology which makes this quotient algebra algebraically and topologically isomorphic with the symbol algebra. We also show that the topology of uniform convergence on bounded sets is not a correct choice here, since the commutator ideal is dense in the algebra generated by all Toeplitz operators in this topology. However, the linear space of all Toeplitz operators with the topology of uniform convergence on bounded sets is linearly isomorphic with the symbol space. There are also some other subtle differences between the case which we study and the classical one. Our theorems provide the key step towards extending the results previously obtained for single Toeplitz operators to the elements of the algebra generated by all Toeplitz operators.

Abstract:We consider dual Toeplitz operators on the orthogonal complements of the Fock-Sobolev spaces of all nonnegative real orders. First, for symbols in a certain class containing all bounded functions, we study the problem of when an operator which is finite sums of the dual Toeplitz products is compact or zero. Next, for bounded symbols, we construct a symbol map and exhibit a short exact sequence associated with the C*-algebra generated by all dual Toeplitz operators with bounded symbols.

Abstract:We study infinite multiplicative Toeplitz matrices and Toeplitz operators on the Hardy space H^2(𝕋^∞) over the infinite-dimensional polydisc. This pair is a companion to the pair of Toeplitz matrices and Toeplitz operators on the Hardy space over the unit disc. We obtain a Brown- Halmos type theorem and the spectral inclusion theorem. The conditions for the semi-commutator T_fT_g-T_fg of Toeplitz operators T_f and T_g to be of finite rank are obtained if one of ƒ and g depends only on finitely many variables. It is also shown that the Toeplitz algebra 𝒯^F_∞ generated by Toeplitz operators with bounded symbols depending only on finitely many variables on H^2(𝕋^∞) doesn’t contain any nonzero compact operator. In particular, the Toeplitz algebra generated by Toeplitz operators with continuous symbols on H^2(𝕋^∞) , as a C * -subalgebra of 𝒯^F_∞ , contains no nonzero compact operators, and this is in sharp contrast to the case of finite-dimensional polydiscs. Moreover, the symbolic calculus for the Toeplitz algebra generated by all bounded Toeplitz operators is established.

Abstract:In the present paper, we characterize the Fredholmness of Toeplitz pairs on Hardy space over the bidisk with the bounded holomorphic symbols, and hence we obtain the index formula for such Toeplitz pairs. The key to obtain the Fredholmness of such Toeplitz pairs is the $L^p$ solution of Corona Problem over $\mathbb{D}^2$.
