Abstract:In the present paper, we characterize the Fredholmness of Toeplitz pairs on Hardy space over the bidisk with the bounded holomorphic symbols, and hence we obtain the index formula for such Toeplitz pairs. The key to obtain the Fredholmness of such Toeplitz pairs is the $L^p$ solution of Corona Problem over $\mathbb{D}^2$.

Abstract:In this paper, we study defect operators and Fredholmness for Toeplitz pairs with inner symbols on both the Hardy spaces H-2(D) and H-2(D-2). The defect operator theory is closely related to function theory on the unit disk and the bidisk. Fredholmness of Toeplitz pairs on H-2(D-2) with rational inner symbols is completely characterized. We also establish an index formula for a general isometric pair.

Abstract:We study infinite multiplicative Toeplitz matrices and Toeplitz operators on the Hardy space H^2(𝕋^∞) over the infinite-dimensional polydisc. This pair is a companion to the pair of Toeplitz matrices and Toeplitz operators on the Hardy space over the unit disc. We obtain a Brown- Halmos type theorem and the spectral inclusion theorem. The conditions for the semi-commutator T_fT_g-T_fg of Toeplitz operators T_f and T_g to be of finite rank are obtained if one of ƒ and g depends only on finitely many variables. It is also shown that the Toeplitz algebra 𝒯^F_∞ generated by Toeplitz operators with bounded symbols depending only on finitely many variables on H^2(𝕋^∞) doesn’t contain any nonzero compact operator. In particular, the Toeplitz algebra generated by Toeplitz operators with continuous symbols on H^2(𝕋^∞) , as a C * -subalgebra of 𝒯^F_∞ , contains no nonzero compact operators, and this is in sharp contrast to the case of finite-dimensional polydiscs. Moreover, the symbolic calculus for the Toeplitz algebra generated by all bounded Toeplitz operators is established.

Abstract:Abstract Recently the authors characterized the Fredholmn properties of Toeplitz operators on weighted Fock spaces when the Laplacian of the weight function is bounded below and above. In the present work the authors extend their characterization to doubling Fock spaces with a subharmonic weight whose Laplacian is a doubling measure. The geometry induced by the Bergman metric for doubling Fock spaces is much more complicated than that of the Euclidean metric used in all the previous cases to study Fredholmness, which leads to considerably more involved calculations.

Abstract:We prove that an aggregate Toeplitz operator on the Fréchet space of all entire functions is a Fredholm operator if and only if its symbol does not vanish. The result is motivated by and closely resembles the classical result of Gohberg and Douglas from the Hardy space theory of Toeplitz operators. There are however some subtle differences which we also discuss.

Abstract:It is well-known that the classical Gauss-Bonnet-Chern theorem [C] can be interpreted as an index theorem for de Rham-Hodge operators (cf. [BGV] and [LM]) and that it is nontrivial only for even dimensional manifolds. This paper arose from an attempt to search an odd dimensional analogue of this index theorem. Recall that the Gauss-Bonnet-Chern theorem is closely related to the famous Poincare-Hopf index formula expressing the Euler number as the sum of indices of singularities of a tangent vector field. Now for odd dimensional manifolds, or more generally for manifolds with vanishing Euler number, we take the advantage that another result of Hopf asserts that there always exist nowhere zero vector fields (see e.g. Steenrod [S]). Thus let M be an odd dimensional oriented closed manifold and let V be a nowhere zero vector field on M . Let γ be the one dimensional oriented vector bundle over M generated by V . Then TM/γ carries a canonically induced orientation. Let e(TM/γ) be the Euler class of TM/γ. For any integral element ω in H1(M,Q), we will take 〈ωe(TM/γ), [M ]〉 as our substitute for the Euler class appeared in the Gauss-Bonnet-Chern theorem. The main result of this paper gives an analytic formula for this number as the index of certain elliptic Toeplitz operators. In fact, a general odd index theory has already been developed by BaumDouglas [BD] who pointed out that the associated index can be computed

Abstract:In this paper we completely characterize compact Toeplitz operators on the harmonic Bergman space. By using this result we establish the short exact sequences associated with the Toeplitz algebra and the Hankel algebra. We show that the Fredholm index of each Fredholm operator in the Toeplitz algebra or the Hankel algebra is zero.

Abstract:In a recent paper (Groenewald et al.\ {\em Complex Anal.\ Oper.\ Theory} \textbf{15:1} (2021)) we considered an unbounded Toeplitz-like operator $T_\Omega$ generated by a rational matrix function $\Omega$ that has poles on the unit circle $\mathbb{T}$ of the complex plane. A Wiener-Hopf type factorization was proved and this factorization was used to determine some Fredholm properties of the operator $T_\Omega$, including the Fredholm index. Due to the lower triangular structure (rather than diagonal) of the middle term in the Wiener-Hopf type factorization and the lack of uniqueness, it is not straightforward to determine the dimension of the kernel of $T_\Omega$ from this factorization, and hence of the co-kernel, even when $T_\Omega$ is Fredholm. In the current paper we provide a formula for the dimension of the kernel of $T_\Omega$ under an additional assumption on the Wiener-Hopf type factorization. In the case that $\Omega$ is a $2 \times 2$ matrix function, a characterization of the kernel of the middle factor of the Wiener-Hopf type factorization is given and in many cases a formula for the dimension of the kernel is obtained. The characterization of the kernel of the middle factor for the $2 \times 2$ case is partially extended to the case of matrix functions of arbitrary size.

Abstract:Let $\Omega$ be a bounded symmetric domain in $\mathbb C^n$ and $f :\Omega \to \Omega^\prime$ be a proper holomorphic mapping factored by (automorphisms) a finite complex reflection group $G.$ We define an appropriate notion of the Hardy space $H^2(\Omega^\prime)$ on $\Omega^\prime$ which can be realized as a closed subspace of an $L^2$-space on the Šilov boundary of $\Omega^\prime$. We study various algebraic properties of Toeplitz operators (such as the finite zero product property, commutative and semi-commutative property etc.) on $H^2(\Omega^\prime)$. We prove a Brown-Halmos type characterization for Toeplitz operators on $H^2(\Omega^\prime),$ where $\Omega^\prime$ is an image of the open unit polydisc in $\mathbb C^n$ under a proper holomorphic mapping factored by an irreducible finite complex reflection group.

Abstract:In this paper, we conducted a study of H-Toeplitz operators on the Dirichlet type space $ \mathfrak{D}_{t} $, which included several aspects. To begin, we established the matrix representation of the H-Toeplitz operator $ S_{\varphi} $ with respect to the orthonormal basis of $ \mathfrak{D}_t $. Subsequently, we characterized the compactness of $ S_{\varphi} $ in terms of the symbol $ \varphi $. Furthermore, we developed a new method to investigate the algebraic properties of H-Toeplitz operators, including self-adjointness, diagonality, co-isometry, partial isometry as well as commutativity.

Abstract:This paper proves an index theorem of Toeplitz tuples on pseudoregular domains in C n . Geometrically, the index of Toeplitz tuple T n is (-1) n time wrapping number of φ n around the origin. As one of the applications of the index theorem, we completely characterize the automorphism groups of Toeplitz algebras on Poincaré domain. As another application, it is shown that C *(Ω)≅ C *( Bn ) for every Poincare domain Ω in C n ( n ≠2). It is also noticed that C *(Ω)≅ C *( B 2 ) if and only if the Poincaré conjecture is true for ∂Ω.

Abstract:We consider bisingular pseudodifferential operators which are pseudodifferential operators of tensor product type. These operators are defined on the product manifold $M_1 \times M_2$, for closed manifolds $M_1$ and $M_2$. We prove a topological index theorem of product type. In addition, we show that the Fredholm index of elliptic bisingular operators equals the topological index, whenever the operator takes the form of an external tensor product of pseudodifferential operators, up to equivalence. To this end we construct a suitable double deformation groupoid and a Poincar\'e duality type homomorphism.

Abstract:In this paper we study the Fredholm properties of Toeplitz operators acting on weighted Bergman spaces $A^p_{\nu}(\mathbb{B}^n)$, where $p \in (1,\infty)$ and $\mathbb{B}^n \subset \mathbb{C}^n$ denotes the $n$-dimensional open unit ball. Let $f$ be a continuous function on the Euclidean closure of $\mathbb{B}^n$. It is well-known that then the corresponding Toeplitz operator $T_f$ is Fredholm if and only if $f$ has no zeros on the boundary $\partial\mathbb{B}^n$. As a consequence, the essential spectrum of $T_f$ is given by the boundary values of $f$. We extend this result to all operators in the algebra generated by Toeplitz operators with bounded symbol (in a sense to be made precise down below). The main ideas are based on the work of Suarez et al. and limit operator techniques coming from similar problems on the sequence space $\ell^p(\mathbb{Z})$.

Abstract:While in \cite{HB} we studied classes of Fredholm-type operators defined by the homomorphism $\Pi$ from $L(X)$ onto the Calkin algebra $\mathcal{C}(X)$, $X$ being a Banach space, we study in this paper two classes of Fredholm-type operators defined by the homomorphism $\pi$ from $L(X)$ onto the algebra $\mathcal{C}_0(X)= L(X)/F_0(X),$ where $F_0(X)$ is the ideal of finite rank operators in $L(X).$ Then we define an index for Fredholm-type operators and we show that this new index satisfies similar properties as the usual Fredholm index.

Abstract:In this paper, we study some characterizations of the Toeplitz and Hankel operators with positive operator-valued function as symbol on the vector-valued Fock-type spaces. We first discuss that the Bergman projection is bounded for all , and obtain the duality of the vector-valued Fock-type spaces. Second, using operator-valued Carleson conditions, we give a complete characterization of the boundedness and compactness of the Toeplitz operators on $F^p_{\Psi }({\mathcal {H}})(1<p<\infty )$ . Finally, we describe the boundedness (or compactness) of the Hankel operators and on in terms of a bounded (or vanishing) mean oscillation. We also give geometrical descriptions for the operator-valued spaces and defined in terms of the Berezin transform.</p

Abstract:We reconsider studies of Toeplitz operators on function spaces (the weighted Bergman space, the generalized derivative Hardy space) and the H-Toeplitz operators on the Bergman space. Past studies have considered the presence or absence of hyponormality or questions of contractivity or expansivity; we provide structure theorems for these operators that allow us to recapture, and often considerably improve, these results. In some cases these operators or their adjoints are actually in more restrictive classes, such as subnormal or moment infinitely divisible ($\mathcal{MID}$).

Abstract:This paper shows some new phenomenon in the spectral theory of Toeplitz operators on the Bergman space, which is considerably different from that of Toeplitz operators on the Hardy space. On the one hand, we prove that the spectrum of the Toeplitz operator with symbol (z) over bar+ p is always connected for every polynomial p with degree less than 3. On the other hand, we show that for each integer k greater than 2, there exists a polynomial p of degree k such that the spectrum of the Toeplitz operator with symbol (z) over bar+ p is a nonempty finite set. Then these results are applied to obtain a new class of non-hyponormal Toeplitz operators with bounded harmonic symbols on the Bergman space for which Weyl's theorem holds.

Abstract:In the setting of several commuting operators on a Hilbert space one defines the notions of invertibility and Fredholmness in terms of the associated Koszul complex. The index problem then consists of computing the Euler characteristic of such a special type of Fredholm complex. In this paper we investigate transformation rules for the index under the holomorphic functional calculus. We distinguish between two different types of index results: 1) A global index theorem which expresses the index in terms of the degree function of the "symbol" and the locally constant index function of the "coordinates". 2) A local index theorem which computes the Euler characteristic of a localized Koszul complex near a common zero of the "symbol". Our results apply to the example of Toeplitz operators acting on both Bergman spaces over pseudoconvex domains and the Hardy space over the polydisc. The local index theorem is fundamental for future investigations of determinants and torsion of Koszul complexes.

Abstract:A well known result of Brown and Halmos shows that the Toeplitz operators induced by $L^{\infty}(\mathbb T)$ symbols on the Hardy space of the unit disc $\mathbb D$ are characterized by the operator identity $T_{\bar{z}}AT_z=A,$ where $T_z, T_{\bar{z}}$ are the Toeplitz operators induced by the function $z$ and $\bar{z}$ on the unit circle $\mathbb T$ respectively. In this paper we introduce and study a class of Toeplitz operators on the Dirichlet space $\mathcal{D} _0$ induced by a symbol class $\mathcal T(\mathcal D _0)= \overline{H^{\infty}_0(\mathbb D)} + \mathcal M(\mathcal D_0 ),$ where $H^{\infty}_0(\mathbb D)$ denotes the set of all bounded analytic function on $\mathbb D$ vanishing at $0$ and $\mathcal M(\mathcal D _0)$ denotes the multiplier algebra of the Dirichlet space $\mathcal D_0.$ We find that the Toeplitz operators on the Dirichlet space $\mathcal D$ induced by the symbol class $\mathcal T(\mathcal D _0)$ is completely characterized by the operator identity $T_{\bar{z}}AT_z=A.$

Abstract:Let $1<p<\infty$, let $H^p$ be the Hardy space on the unit circle, and let $H^p(w)$ be the Hardy space with a Muckenhoupt weight $w\in A_p$ on the unit circle. In 1988, Böttcher, Krupnik and Silbermann proved that the essential norm of the Toeplitz operator $T(a)$ with $a\in C$ on the weighted Hardy space $H^2(\varrho)$ with a power weight $\varrho\in A_2$ is equal to $\|a\|_{L^\infty}$. This implies that the essential norm of $T(a)$ on $H^2(\varrho)$ does not depend on $\varrho$. We extend this result and show that if $a\in C+H^\infty$, then, for $1<p<\infty$, the essential norms of the Toeplitz operator $T(a)$ on $H^p$ and on $H^p(w)$ are the same for all $w\in A_p$. In particular, if $w\in A_2$, then the essential norm of the Toeplitz operator $T(a)$ with $a\in C+H^\infty$ on the weighted Hardy space $H^2(w)$ is equal to $\|a\|_{L^\infty}$.
