Exploring Application of Micromachined Actuators to Controlling Leading-Edge Vortices

Abstract:Instead of using conventional flaps to generate torques,we explore the feasibility of applying micromachined actuators to controlling leading-edge vortices,and,consequently,providing sufficient moments for flight control.In the full paper,we explain in detail our explanation;in this abstract,we just list the three topics of explanation:(1) micro balloon actuator;the four subtopics are working principles(subtopic1.1),balloon membrane material(subtopic1.2),dimensions of micro actuator(subtopic1.3) and processing of balloon membrane(subtopic1.4);micro balloon actuator is 8 mm×2 mm×(100～150 μm);(2) principles of flow control;the two subtopics are delta wing leading-edge vortices(subtopic2.1) and principles of generation of controlling torques(subtopic2.2);(3) numerical simulation;the two subtopics are two-dimensional numerical simulation (subtopic3.1),numerical simulation of delta wing(subtopic3.2);under subtopic3.1,Fig.7 in the full paper gives the simulation results for NACA0012 airfoil;under subtopic3.2,Figs.9 and 10 in the full paper give the simulation results for the effect of positions of micro actuators on rolling moment.The results show that the control capability of micro actuator is acceptable.Micro balloon actuators can generate an additional moment for the flight control of aircraft.
