Abstract:We report a novel approach to Fourier ptychographic microscopy (FPM) by using a digital micromirror device (DMD) and a coherent laser source (532 nm) for generating spatially modulated sample illumination. Previously demonstrated FPM systems are all based on partially-coherent illumination, which offers limited throughput due to insufficient brightness. Our FPM employs a high power coherent laser source to enable shot-noise limited high-speed imaging. For the first time, a digital micromirror device (DMD), imaged onto the back focal plane of the illumination objective, is used to generate spatially modulated sample illumination field for ptychography. By coding the on/off states of the micromirrors, the illumination plane wave angle can be varied at speeds more than 4 kHz. A set of intensity images, resulting from different oblique illuminations, are used to numerically reconstruct one high-resolution image without obvious laser speckle. Experiments were conducted using a USAF resolution target and a fiber sample, demonstrating high-resolution imaging capability of our system. We envision that our approach, if combined with a coded-aperture compressive-sensing algorithm, will further improve the imaging speed in DMD-based FPM systems. (C) 2015 Optical Society of America

Abstract:To reduce dynamic deflection and suppress vibration during the end-milling process of large thin-plate workpiece, an intelligent mirror-milling machining system is established in this paper. This system includes two movable support heads, and both of them are periodically repositioned which affix themselves to the workpiece by the way of vacuum adsorption in order to improve stability of the workpiece during the milling process. One critical point of this task is how to ensure support heads move reasonably and simultaneously and support to the workpiece stably. Therefore, this paper developed a practical method for the planning of support head moving path (SHMP) under a given cutting path. This method involves the finite difference method (FDM), artificial neural network (ANN), and genetic algorithm (GA). In particular, dynamic vibration response of four-edge clamped thin-plate workpiece is calculated with FDM; to reduce computing time, ANN is applied to establish the relation between support head location and workpiece dynamic vibration amplitude; and as SHMP is a multi-objective optimization problem, GA is implemented with the classical weighted sum method to find a solution. Finally, this method is verified and simulated under two specific cases; the final paths obviously show that there will always be at least one support head support workpiece during the machining process.

Abstract:The digitization of objects' full surfaces finds widespread applications in fields such as virtual reality, art and design, and medical and biological sciences. For the realization of three-dimensional full-surface digitization of objects within complex sceneries, we propose a straightforward, efficient, and robust panoramic three-dimensional optical digitization system. This system contains a laser-based optical three-dimensional measurement system and a bi-mirror. By integrating mirrors into the system, we enable the illumination of the object from all angles using the projected laser beam in a single scanning process. Moreover, the main camera employed in the system can acquire three-dimensional information of the object from several different viewpoints. The rotational scanning method enhances the efficiency and applicability of the three-dimensional scanning process, enabling the acquisition of surface information of large-scale objects. After obtaining the three-dimensional data of the sample from different viewpoints using laser triangulation, mirror reflection transformation was employed to obtain the full-surface three-dimensional data of the object in the global coordinate system. The proposed method has been subjected to precision and validity experiments using samples with different surface characteristics and sizes, resulting in the demonstration of its capability for achieving correct three-dimensional digitization of the entire surface in diverse complex sceneries.

Abstract:The design, fabrication and characterization of the dispersive multilayers are presented in this paper. Two kinds of dispersive mirror (High dispersion and 700-900nm Gires-Tournois mirrors) are designed by employing Particle Swarm Optimization method which demonstrates fast convergence speed and less dependence on the initial parameters. The mirrors are experimentally fabricated by home-made dual ion beam sputtering system with stable deposition rate and high density. A white light interferometry is built for precisely measuring the dispersion properties. A novel wavelet-based differentiation approach is introduced with considerable resistance to measurement error. The good agreement between the measured and designed results verifies the accuracy of both the fabrication and characterization method. Finally, two applications of Yb-doped photonic crystal fiber laser and Ti:Sapphire crystal oscillation cavity, which use our fabricated mirrors for dispersion compensation, are presented. Good output characteristics of both the two ultrafast laser systems are obtained.

Abstract:In this work, we establish a three-dimensional (3D) polarization ray-tracing model to trace the evolution of polarization states of incident beams through the corner-cube-like interferometer unit of an orthogonal two-axis Lloyd's mirror interferometer. Compared with the conventional two-dimensional Jones matrix formalism, the 3D polarization ray-tracing model that represents polarization as a three-element electric field vector in the global coordinate system provides an easier approach to trace the polarization evolution. The comparison between the simulated and experimental interference fringes obtained under different combinations of initial polarization states of incident beams verify the feasibility of the established model.

Abstract:Existing laser graphics display system was too monotonous,the graphics were not flexible,and it could not be reflected in the laser display function.Laser multi-channel graphics system based on a computer-controlled application was proposed.The system was completed with oscillating mirror,rotating mirror and stepping mirror coordination by light splitting.Three different modes of motor function were better displayed.The issue of Motor response to the distortion had been resolved in the light splitting system,so the Laser graphics display had been enriched and improved.The experiments on the improved laser graphical display system demonstrated that this multi-channel laser graphics display system is easier to use and the image quality and content are improved.

Abstract:A new type nonplanar ring laser,which consists of only two spherical mirrors,was presented and analyzed.One of the mirrors is coated on the curved surface of the laser crystal,so a more compact cavity is formed.The laser beam is reflected several times on the same cavity mirror in a round trip to provide the possibility to be multi-end-pumped,which can significantly reduce the thermal effect for a given total pumping power.The modes of the nonplanar ring laser were given and the mirror separations of different modes were calculated and the beam paths were simulated.Operations of different modes were performed and the experimental results are in good agreement with the theoretical model.
Volumetric Display Using Mirror Image Series

Abstract:A volumetric display method and a corresponding principle prototype using mirror image series are described. In the method, a DMD embedded digital light projector is used to produce a 2D picture. The picture is then reflected by a front surface mirror which is moving to-and-fro in its surface normal direction to form a mirror image series. When the 2D picture is synchronous refreshing according to the position of the mirror, the mirror image series will be sensed as a 3D image with physical depth of focus by a viewer because of the persistence of vision. The 3D image is composed by uniform voxels arranged uniformly without the shadow caused by the thickness of screen. Thus it is suitable for accurate display of 3D designed engineering objects. Contrast to directly moving projecting screen, the method avoids the real-time focus and magnification correction problem, and reduces 50% of mechanical scan distance.

Abstract:Based on the microstructure and working principle of DMD.the way of space-partition is adopted to complete the mathematics modeling on the spatial light modulating of DMD at laser illumination.by introducing the duty ratio factor reflecting imagine gray scale.The mathematics model shows that the Fraunhofer diffraction contains the two complementary image-diffracting areas and each order diffraction spot in their symmetry axis doesn't contain image information.In addition.the related experiment has been done and the experiment result is identical with the mathematics model well.

Abstract:The invention discloses a laser light path adjusting method with an off-axis paraboloid mirror. With the off-axis paraboloid mirror, a non-linear effect that is caused by laser when the laser penetrates a medium is avoided. With the off-axis paraboloid mirror, the light beam quality after laser focusing is ensured. During light path adjustment, calculation is carried out based on a formula; on the basis of the property of a similar triangle, the laser light path is adjusted to a target position without changing the focusing characteristic of the off-axis paraboloid mirror and damaging the beam quality. The method has advantages of simple operation, great convenience and high efficiency, and wide application range. The method can be applied to the field of laser plasma interaction, especially to a laser plasma wake field acceleration electronic mechanism, thereby providing the good laser beam quality for focusing targeting.

Abstract:Aiming to minimize the surface distortion of large-aperture laser transport mirrors in high-power laser facilities, an assembly design and mounting method are proposed for the mirror. First, a theoretical model on the mirror surface deformation is established. With a new assembly design, the mirror is fastened on its neutral plane and its optical surface distortion can be precisely compensated through several adjustable forces on the sides, which will generate bending moments on the mirror body. Furthermore, a dynamic kinematic joint is designed, in which a corresponding relationship between spring compression and screw rotation ensures the accurate control of the magnitude of minor preload. Finally, the performance of the presented method has been validated through field experiments and numerical simulations. This transport mirror assembly and mounting design have obvious technical advantages on simple mechanical structure, high operational efficiency, and precise preload control. The results show that the assembly design and optimized mounting strategy can keep the total surface distortion of the mirror within 350 nm (peak-valley). Experimental Investigation on the Principle of a Two-Dimensional Scanning Micro-Mirror

Abstract:A two-dimensional scanning micro-mirror was presented and the laser scanning was two-dimensionally achieved by reflection to meet the micromation requirement of a laser scanning device. A theoretical model of the structure was used to analyze the scanning frequencies and the maximum scanning angles of two degrees of freedom. The principle device was studied and the experiment shows that the two scanning frequencies are 170.1 Hz and 378.8 Hz, respectively. The micro-mirror scans two-dimensionally with large amplitudes when actuated at two scanning frequencies simultaneously. The scanning range increases with increasing actuator displacement. By the actuation of 10 μm displacement, the scanning range of the two-dimensional scanning micro-mirror is above 30°×20°.

Abstract:A virtual binocular line-structured light measurement method based on a plane mirror is proposed. A checkerboard target and its virtual image in a front coating plane mirror are captured by a camera in a single picture. The target is imaged in several positions to determine the spatial relationship between the camera and plane mirror. The centers of light stripes are matched with its mirror images by the vanishing point constraint between the checkerboard coplanar point and its corresponding mirrored point. By scanning the object on a moving stage, 3D point cloud data can be obtained. Compared with the traditional binocular line-structured light measurement system, the proposed method just needs a single camera, and two images can be obtained in one procedure. It improves the measurement speed, reduces the cost of measurement, and avoids measurement errors caused by non-strict synchronization between the left and right camera in binocular vision. Experimental results demonstrate good performance with the ability to reconstruction surfaces, and measurement accuracy (RMSE = 0.032 mm) can meet the industrial requirement.

Abstract:Electromagnetic micro mirrors are in great demand for light detection and ranging (LiDAR) applications due to their light weight and low power consumption. The driven frequency of electromagnetic micro mirrors is very important to their performance and consumption. An electromagnetic micro mirror system is proposed in this paper. The model of the system was composed of a micro mirror, an integrated piezoresistive (PR) sensor, and a driving circuit was developed. The twisting angle of the mirror edge was monitored by an integrated PR sensor, which provides frequency feedback signals, and the PR sensor has good sensitivity and linearity in testing, with a maximum of 24.45 mV/deg. Stable sinusoidal voltage excitation and frequency tracking was realized via a phase-locked loop (PLL) in the driving circuit, with a frequency error within 10 Hz. Compared with other high-cost solutions using PLL circuits, it has greater advantages in power consumption, cost, and occupied area. The mechanical and piezoresistive properties of micro mirrors were performed in ANSYS 19.2 software. The behavior-level models of devices, circuits, and systems were validated by MATLAB R2023a Simulink, which contributes to the research on the large-angle deflection and low-power-consumption drive of the electromagnetic micro mirror. The maximum optical scan angle reached 37.6° at 4 kHz in the behavior-level model of the micro mirror.

Mirror-3DGS: Incorporating Mirror Reflections into 3D Gaussian Splatting

Abstract:3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has marked a significant breakthrough in the realm of 3D scene reconstruction and novel view synthesis. However, 3DGS, much like its predecessor Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF), struggles to accurately model physical reflections, particularly in mirrors that are ubiquitous in real-world scenes. This oversight mistakenly perceives reflections as separate entities that physically exist, resulting in inaccurate reconstructions and inconsistent reflective properties across varied viewpoints. To address this pivotal challenge, we introduce Mirror-3DGS, an innovative rendering framework devised to master the intricacies of mirror geometries and reflections, paving the way for the generation of realistically depicted mirror reflections. By ingeniously incorporating mirror attributes into the 3DGS and leveraging the principle of plane mirror imaging, Mirror-3DGS crafts a mirrored viewpoint to observe from behind the mirror, enriching the realism of scene renderings. Extensive assessments, spanning both synthetic and real-world scenes, showcase our method's ability to render novel views with enhanced fidelity in real-time, surpassing the state-of-the-art Mirror-NeRF specifically within the challenging mirror regions. Our code will be made publicly available for reproducible research.

Abstract:Abstract This study introduces a novel image capture and lighting techniques using a cutting-edge hybrid MEMS scanner system designed for compact microscopic imaging. The scanner comprises a tapered optical fiber waveguide and innovative aerosol-jet printed PZT (lead zirconate titanate) bimorph push-pull actuators on a stainless-steel substrate, effectively addressing issues that are commonly associated with PZT on silicon substrates such as fracture and layer separation. By leveraging nonlinear vibration, the scanner achieves a spiral scan pattern from a single signal input, in addition to the expected two-dimensional scanning and target illumination from two phase-shifted inputs. This capability is further enhanced by a novel process to taper the optical fiber, which reduces illumination scattering and tunes the fiber to the resonant frequencies of the scanner. The precisely tapered tip enables large fields of view while maintaining independent 2-axis scanning through one-degree-of-freedom actuation. Experimental validation showcases the successful generation of a spiral scan pattern with a 60 μm diameter scan area and a 10 Hz frame rate, effectively reconstructing scanned images of 5 μm lines, cross patterns (15 μm in length with a 5 μm gap), and structures of a Psychodidae wing.

Abstract:A multi-end-pumped two-mirrors nonplanar ring laser with output on single point was demonstrated.The beam propagated along a nonplanar loop within the cavity consisting of two mirrors,one of which was coated on the curved surface of the laser crystal.The laser provides the capability in being easily multi-end-pumped to reduce thermal induced effects and scale output power.Two important parameters of beam loops were described,and simulation diagrams of the beam loops were shown.Using the output coupler with the fan-shaped distribution of reflectivity,the output on single point was achieved.Double-end-pumped operations of different modes with output on single point were performed and the experimental results were given.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a low-cost, easy-to-implement yet robust panoramic 3D profile reconstruction system, including two plane mirrors and a conventional 3D triangulation laser scanner (TLS), for full-surface reconstruction and reverse molding of complex samples. With the help of two plane mirrors, the TLS can simultaneously capture the laser line patterns from three perspectives (i.e., two virtual perspectives in the plane mirrors and one real perspective), thus enabling 3D reconstructions of the front surface and two rear surfaces of the sample. After precise calibration of the plane mirrors, the sample surfaces reconstructed from three different perspectives can be transformed into a common global coordinate, thus achieving a straightforward 360-deg full-surface profile reconstruction. Real experiments were performed to verify the proposed method, including panoramic profile reconstruction of the standard sphere, complex-shaped surfaces and shiny surfaces, in which the reconstruction deviation of the standard sphere was only 0.4293% and RMSE was 94.595 μm. Our experiments demonstrate that the proposed method can perform accurate 3D reconstruction of samples with complex surfaces and different materials, providing a cost-effective strategy for achieving panoramic 3D profile measurements.
