Abstract:A new steroidal glycoside (1), (25R)-14α, 17α-hydroxyspirost-5-en-3β-yl 3-O-α-L-rhamnpyranosyl-(1 → 2)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 3)-β-D-glucopyranoside, together with three known steroidal glycosides, (25R)-3β-hydroxyspirost-5-en-1β-yl-3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 → 2)-O-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1 → 3)-α-L-arabinopyranoside (2), Cixi-ophiopogon B (3) and Cixi-ophiopogon A (4), were obtained from the tuberous roots of Ophiopogon japonicus (Liliaceae). Compound 2 was isolated from the Ophiopogon genus for the first time. Their structures were identified on the basis of extensive mass and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopic analysis.

Abstract:A new phenolic glycoside (1), named methyl 2-phenylpropanoate-2-O-β-D-apiofuranosyl-(1→6)-O-β-D–glucopyranoside, was isolated from the barks of Cinnamomum cassia, along with three known phenolic glycosides and four known lignan glycosides. The structure of 1 was elucidated by extensive interpretation of spectroscopic data and chemical method. Selected compounds were evaluated for their immunosuppressive activities against murine lymphocytes. Compounds 1, 2, 6 and 8 exhibited differential inhibition against ConA-induced T cells proliferation.

Abstract:Polygalasterol A (1), a new sterol sulfate, and a new oligosaccharide ester, polygalasibiricose 1 (2), have been isolated from the n-butanol soluble fraction of the aerial parts of Polygala sibirica L.. Their structures were determined to be (24R)-24-sulfo-5 alpha-cholestane-3 alpha,7 alpha,12 alpha,24-tetrol (1) and 3-O-benzoyl-beta-D-fructofuranosyl-(2 -> 1)-[beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 -> 2)]-4-O-{4-O-[3-O-[3-O-benzoyl-(2-O-acetyl)-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 -> 3)1-2-O-acetyl-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl]-(Z)-p-coumaroyl}-alpha-D-glucopyranoside (2), respectively, by HRESIMS, and 1D and 2D MAR spectroscopic studies.

Abstract:Our continued works on the chemical constituents of Ginkgo biloba ( G. biloba ) leaves has led to the isolation of two novel phenylbutenoids ( 1, 2 ), along with five previously unidentified terpene glycosides ( 3–7 ). Among them, compounds 1 and 2 represent unique ( Z )-phenylbutenoids, 3–6 are megastigmane glycosides, and 7 is identified as a rare bilobanone glycoside (Fig. 1). This study marks the first reported isolation of phenylbutenoid and bilobanone glycoside from G. biloba . The chemical structures of these compounds were elucidated through extensive spectroscopic analysis, including HR-ESI-MS and various 1D and 2D NMR experiments. Furthermore, the absolute configurations of these molecules were determined using Mosher's method, ECD experiments, and Cu-Kα X-ray crystallographic analyses.

Abstract:The 95% ethanol extract of Baphicacanthis Cusiae Rhizoma et Radix was purified by multi-chromatographic methods including microporous resin, silica gel, Sephadex LH-20, and C_(18) reversed-phase column chromatography. Fourteen compounds were isolated and structurally identified, including five phenylethanoid glycosides, five phenylpropanoids, one lupinane triterpene, two alkaloids, and one flavonoid, listed as follows: 2-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-3-(2-hydroxy-5-methoxyphenyl)-3-oxo-1-propanol B(1), threo-2,3-bis-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzene)-3-methoxypropanol(2), 2-(3-hydroxy-4-methoxyphenyl)-ethanol-1-O-[3,4-O-di-acetyl-(1→3)-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl]-β-D-glucopyranoside(3), verbascoside(4), 2″,3″-di-O-acetyl martynoside(5),(+)-pinore-sinol(6), diospyrosin(7), daidzein(8), wiedemannioside B(9), buddlenol A(10), 2″-O-acetyl martyonside(11), lupeol(12), indirubin(13), and tryptanthrin(14). Compound 3 was a new phenylethanoid glycoside, and the other 10 compounds were isolated for the first time from Baphicacanthis Cusiae Rhizoma et Radix except compounds 12, 13, and 14.

Abstract:AIM: To study chemical constituents of the aerial parts of Artemisia anomala (Asteraceae). METHODS: The constituents were isolated with silica gel, ODS column chromatography and semi-preparative HPLC, and their structures were elucidated on the basis of physical characteristics and spectral data. RESULTS: Eight compounds were obtained, and their structures were identified as 3 beta-ethoxytanapartholide (1), (4S*, 5S*)-dihydro-5-[( 1R*, 2S*)-2-hydroxy-2-methyl-5-oxo-3-cyclopenten-1-yl]-3-methylene-4-(3-oxobutyl)-2(3H)-furanone (2), ligucyperonol (3), cyperusol C (4), santamarin (5), 1 alpha, 2 alpha, 3 alpha, 4 alpha, 10 alpha -pentahydroxyguaia-11(13)-ene-12, 6 alpha-olide (6), balanophonin (7), methyl 3-(2'-hydroxy-4'-methoxyphenyl) propanoate (8). CONCLUSION: Compound 1 was a new artifact, 4 and 8 were isolated from the genus Artemisia for the first time, and compounds 2-3, 5-7 were isolated from this plant for the first time.

Abstract:One new flavonostilbene glycoside, polygonflavanol C ( 1 ), two new dimeric stilbene glycosides, multiflorumiside M and multiflorumiside N ( 2 − 3 ), one new diphenyl ethanol glycoside, ( R )-2,3,5,4′-tetrahydroxy-diphenylethanol 2- O - β -D-glucopyranoside ( 4 ), and one new deoxybenzoin glycoside, 2,4,3′,5′-tetrahydroxy-6-methyl-deoxybenzoin 2- O - β -D-glucopyranoside ( 5 ), together with six known ones ( 6 − 11 ), were isolated from the roots of Polygonum multiflorum . Their structures were elucidated by the comprehensive spectroscopic analyses. In addition, compounds 1 and 7 showed significantly in vitro anti-inflammatory activity.

Abstract:The purification of the MeOH extract from the rhizome of Sparganium stoloniferum Buch.-Hamil. (Sparganiaceae) using column chromatography furnished one new phenylpropanoid glycoside (7) and known phenolic compounds (1–6, and 8–13). The structural elucidation of 7 was based on 1D- and 2D-NMR spectroscopic data analysis to be β-d-(6-O-trans-feruloyl) fructofuranosyl-α-d-O-glucopyranoside. Compounds 1–6, and 8–13 were elucidated by spectroscopy and confirmed by comparison with reported data; 24-methylenecycloartanol (1), p-hydroxybenzaldehyde (2), ferulic acid (3), p-coumaric acid (4), vanillic acid (5), β-d-(1-O-acetyl-3-O-trans-feruloyl)fructofuranosy-α-d-2′,4′,6′.-O-triacetyglucopyranoisde (6), β-d-(1-O-acetyl-3,6-O-trans-diferuloyl)fructofuranosyl-β-d-2′,4′,6′.-O-triacetylglucopyranoisde (8), hydroxytyrosol acetate (9), hydroxytyrosol (10), isorhamnetin-3-O-rutinoside (11), n-butyl-α-d-fructofuranoside (12), and n-butyl-β-d-fructopyranoside (13). Compounds 3 and 9–13 were isolated for the first time from this plant. The isolated compounds were tested for cytotoxicity against four human tumor cell lines in vitro using a Sulforhodamin B bioassay.

Abstract:Four new phenolic glycosides, including two flavonoid glycosides (1 and 2) and two lignan glycosides (3 and 4), were isolated from the traditional Chinese medicine formula, Baoyuan decoction. Their structures were established by detailed analysis of the NMR and HR-ESI-MS spectroscopic data and their absolute configurations were determined by the experimental electronic circular dichroism data as well as chemical methods. Furthermore, the sources of the four new compounds were determined by the UPLC-Qtrap-MS method, which proved that 1 and 2 are originated from Glycyrrhiza uralensis, and 3 and 4 are from Cinnamomum cassia.

Abstract:Objective: To isolate and elucidate the constituents from stem of Chirita longgangensis var. hongyao. Method: The constituents were extracted with methanol and isolated by chromatography on silica gel, Sephadex LH-20 and ODS. The structures were determined by NMR and MS spectral analysis. Result: Five phenylethanoid glycosides were identified as 3, 4-dihydroxyphenyl alcohol-beta-D-glucopyranoside (1), 3, 4-dihydroxyphenyl alcohol-6-O-caffeoyl--D-glucopyranoside (calceolarioside B) (2), 3, 4-dihydroxyphenyl alcohol-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 --> 3)-6-O-caffeoyl-beta-D-glucopyranoside (plantainoside D) (3), 3, 4-dihydroxyphenyl alcohol-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 --> 3)-4-O-caffeoyl-beta-D-glucopyranoside (plantamajoside) (4), 3, 4-dihydroxyphenyl alcohol-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 --> 3)-6-O-feruloyl-beta-D-glucopyranoside (scroside E) (5), respectively. Conclusion: Compounds 3 and 5 were isolated for the first time from the family Gesneriaceae, and compounds 1, 2 and 4 were isolated for the first time from the genus Chirita.

Abstract:A new furostan type steroidal saponin, kingianoside Z (1), along with four known compounds (2-5), was isolated from the ethanolic extract of Polygonatum sibiricum Delar. ex Redoute. Their structures were determined by spectroscopical method and by comparison with previously reported spectroscopic data. Compounds 3-5 showed significant cytotoxicity against HepG2 cell lines with IC50 values of 14.2, 12.1 and 8.5 μM, respectively.
