Abstract:A new secoiridoid named chinensisol (1) along with twenty known compounds were isolated from the 95% ethanol extract of Cortex fraxini. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of NMR, MS, IR and UV spectral evidences. The quinone reductase (QR) inducing activities of the compounds were evaluated and the results showed that compounds 1, 9 and 14 had moderate QR inducing activities with CD values (concentration required to double the specific activity of QR) of 72.4 ± 7.7, 34.3 ± 3.3 and 42.0 ± 0.4 μM respectively.

Abstract:A new mixture of epimeric isomers furanosesquiterpenes (1 and 1a), together with two known furanosesquiterpenes were isolated from Xanthopappus subacaulis, which was used as Tibetan medicine in China. The structures of these compounds were elucidated on the comprehensive analysis of spectroscopic data including UV, IR, MS and NMR. The biosynthetic pathway of furanosesquiterpenes is proposed and the chemotaxonomic significance of these compounds is also discussed.

Abstract:Four compounds, including one new lignan cavaol H (1), one new coumarinolignoid 5′-hydroxycleomiscosin B (4) and two known lignans (2–3) were isolated from the 95% ethanol extract of the twigs of Eurycorymbus cavaleriei. Their structures were established on the basis of various spectroscopic analyses including 1D-(1H, 13C, and DEPT) and 2D-NMR (COSY, HMQC, and HMBC). The absolute stereochemistry of the two known lignans was firstly reported in this article by 1H NMR studies on Mosher's ester derivatives. In the present study, quinone reductase induction activities of compounds 1–4 were assayed, compound 4 showed moderate quinone reductase induction with concentration to double the enzyme activity (CD) of 10.5 ± 0.8 μg/mL. Then we established LC-MS-MS analysis of glutathione (GSH) incubation with compound 4 to explain whether compound 4 induced quinone reductase through alkylating of the sulfhydryl groups of Keap1. Reconstructed selected ion chromatogram (SIC) of m/z 706 after compound 4 incubation with GSH was different from that with Tris–HCl buffer solution, which meant the quinone reductase induction activity of compound 4 attributed to alkylating the sulfhydryl groups of Keap1.

Abstract:Mangrove-associated fungi are important sources for the discovery of new bioactive natural products. Three new isocoumarins (1–3) and one new pyrone derivative (4) were isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of the fermentation broth of the mangrove endophytic fungus Phomopsis sp. DHS-11. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy (one-dimensional and two-dimensional) and mass spectrometry were used to determine the structures of these new compounds. The absolute configurations for the new isocoumarins 1–3 were determined by comparing their experimental and calculated electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectra, while the configuration for the new pyrone-derivative 4 was tentatively solved by comparison of its 13C NMR data with reported data. In the biological activity test, compounds 1 and 3 showed cytotoxic activity against HeLa cells with IC50 values of 11.49 ± 1.64 μM and 8.70 ± 0.94 μM, respectively. The initial structure and activity relationship (SAR) analysis revealed that the length of the side chain at C-3 for isocoumarin-type compounds 1–3 could affect the cytotoxicity against HeLa cells. Compound 4 exhibited cytotoxic activities against human hepatoma cells HepG2 with an IC50 value of 34.10 ± 2.92 μM. All compounds have no immunosuppressive activity.

Abstract:A new compound, 2-(3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-3-methoxypropyl)-5-methoxycyclohexa-2,5-diene-1,4-dione (1), was isolated from the heartwood of Dalbergia cochinchinensis along with 15 known compounds, 2,4-dihydroxy-5-methoxybenzophenone (2), 3,5-dimethoxy-4′ -hydroxy-trans-stilbene (3), 7,8-dihydroxyflavanone (4), 2,3-dimethoxyxanthone (5), medicarpin (6), galangin (7), 5,7-dihydroxy-2′,3′,4′- trimethoxyisoflavanone (8), 6-hydroxy-2-(2-hydroxy-4-methoxyphenyl)-benzofuran (9), 3′-O-methylviolanone (10), 2′,5,7-trihydroxy-4′-methoxyisoflavone (11), 7-hydroxy-6-methoxyflavone (12), formononetin (13), pterocarpol (14), 2′-hydroxyformonetin (15), and naringenin (16). Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic means and comparison with published data. Compounds 1–5, 7–9, and 11 were isolated from Dalbergia L. for the first time, and compounds 1–11, 13, 15, and 16 were isolated from D. cochinchinensis for the first time.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To study the chemical constituents in the dried roots of Saposhnikovia divaricata (Turcz.) Schischk.METHOD:The chemical constituents were isolated by various column chromatographic methods and structurally elucidated by IR, UV, MS and NMR evidences.RESULT:Two compounds were obtained and identified as nodakenetin (1) and 8-[4-(beta-D-glucopyrano-sy-loxy)-3-methyl-2-buten-1-yl]oxy-5-methoxy-6,7-furanocoumarin (2), respectively.CONCLUSION:Compound 2 is a new compound and named sapodivarin.

Abstract:A new coumarin, methyl (E)-4-((6-methoxy-2-oxo-2H-chromen-7-yl)oxy)-2-methylbut-2-enoate ( 1 ), has been isolated from the rhizomes of Polygonatum chingshuishanianum , together with six known compounds – scopoletin ( 2 ), rutin ( 3 ), isoquercetin ( 4 ), hyperoside ( 5 ), (3R)-5,7-dihydroxy-3-(2′,4′-dihydroxybenzyl)-chroman-4-one ( 6 ), and (3R)-5,7-dihydroxy-6-methoxy-8-methyl-3-(2′,4′-dihydroxybenzyl)-chroman-4-one ( 7 ). The structure of new compound 1 was determined through spectroscopic and MS analyses. Among the isolates compounds 3 – 6 showed potent inhibition with IC 50 values of 10.25 ± 0.75, 17.60 ± 1.28, 18.82 ± 1.63, and 24.93 ± 2.07 μM, respectively, against LPS-induced NO generation.

Abstract:Four isocoumarin derivatives (1-4) and five phenols (5-9) were obtained from the endophytic fungus Pezicula neosporulosa VDB39, which was isolated from the branches of Vaccinium dunalianum Wight (Ericaceae). Compound 1 is a new derivative of isocoumarin. The structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods. Single X-ray crystallography confirmed the absolute configuration of compound 1. Additionally, the antiphytopathogenic fungi activity of isocoumarin derivatives (1-4) was evaluated.

Abstract:A new phenolic glycoside (1), named methyl 2-phenylpropanoate-2-O-β-D-apiofuranosyl-(1→6)-O-β-D–glucopyranoside, was isolated from the barks of Cinnamomum cassia, along with three known phenolic glycosides and four known lignan glycosides. The structure of 1 was elucidated by extensive interpretation of spectroscopic data and chemical method. Selected compounds were evaluated for their immunosuppressive activities against murine lymphocytes. Compounds 1, 2, 6 and 8 exhibited differential inhibition against ConA-induced T cells proliferation.

Abstract:A new coumarin ( 1 ) and a new flavonoid ( 2 ) were isolated from the air-dried flower buds of Ochrocarpus longifolius , together with ten known compounds ( 3 – 12 ). The structures of two new compounds were established by 1D and 2D NMR and MS data. In addition, the new compound 2 showed significant proliferation inhibitory activity on Eca-109 and MGC-803 cells. The results of this study may enrich the diversity of compounds from O. longifolius and provide a basis for further research on its natural products and pharmacological activities.

Makino. Their structures were determined by spectroscopic methods, including IR, UV, EIMS, HRFTICRMS, 1D and 2D NMR spectral analyses. Both scopoletin and scopolin were isolated from the title plant for the first time.

Abstract:A new derivative of epicatechin glucopyranoside, (2R,3R)-3,7,4'-trihydroxy-5,3'-dimethoxyflavan 7-O-β-d-glucopyranoside (1), together with three mononuclear phenolic acid esters, methyl orsellinate (2), ethyl orsellinate (3) and methyl β-orcinolcarboxylate (4) were isolated from the bark of Styrax suberifolius. The structures of 1-4 were determined on the basis of extensive analysis of NMR and MS spectra combined with chemical hydrolysis. The antifungal activities of the isolated compounds against three plant pathogenic fungi, Alternaria solani, Fusarium oxysporum and Phomopsis cytospore were evaluated using radial growth inhibition assay. Compounds 2, 3 and 4 exerted selective inhibitory activities against the tested fungi. Among of them, methyl β-orcinolcarboxylate (4) exhibited obvious inhibitory effect against P. cytospore, with an inhibition rate of 86.72% at 100 μg/ml.

Abstract:Phytochemical investigation of the roots of Saposhnikovia divaricata (Turcz.) Schischk resulted in the isolation of twelve coumarin derivatives including one new 3,4-dihydroisocoumarin ( 1 ) and eleven known 3,4-unsubstituted coumarins ( 2–12 ). Structural elucidation of compounds 1–12 was established by 1D and 2D NMR spectra referring to the literature, together with high-resolution mass spectrometric analysis. LPS-induced RAW264.7 inflammatory cell model was used to determine the potential antiinflammation activity of all the isolated compounds in vitro . The results showed that compound 3 significantly inhibited the production of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced NO in macrophages (IC 50 = 4.54 ± 1.71 μM), more active than the positive control (L-NMMA).

[Studies on the chemical constituents of Phellodendron chinense]

Abstract:Objective: To isolate and identify chemical constituents from Phellodendron chinense. Methods: Chemical constituents were isolated by silica gel and Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography. The structures of the isolated compounds were determined by spectral means. Results: Ten compounds were isolated and identified as berberine (1), caffeic acid ethyl ester (2), iso-vanillin (3), ferulic acid (4), (+/-)-5,5'-dimethoxylariciresinol (5), Methyl beta-orsellinate (6), gamma-fagirine (7), (+/-)-Lyoniresinol (8), beta-sitosterol (9), stigmasterine (10). Conclusions: Compounds 2-6 are isolated and identified from this genus for the first time.

Abstract:Three new coumarins, integmarins A–C (1–3), and a new coumarin glycoside, integmaside A (4) were isolated from the leaves and stems of Micromelum integerrimum. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of 1D and 2D NMR and MS data, and their absolute configurations were assigned according to the ECD data of the in situ formed transition metal complexes and comparison of experimental and calculated ECD data. Compounds 1 and 2 are two rare coumarins with butyl and propyl moieties at the C-6 position; compound 3 is a novel coumarin with a highly oxidized prenyl group, and compound 4 is a rare bisdihydrofuranocoumarin glycoside.
