Abstract:Let (H)(H) be the algebra of all bounded linear operators on a complex Hilbert space (H) with dim (H) ≥ 2. It is proved that a linear surjective map ψ on (H)(H) preserves the nonzero projections of products of two operators if and only if there is a unitary operator U in (H)(H) such that ψ(X) = λU~*XU, (A)X∈(H)(H) for some constants λ with λ~2 = 1. Related results for linear surjective maps preserving Jordan triple products of two operators are also obtained.

Abstract:Let B(H) be the algebra of all bounded linear operators on a complex Hilbert space H with dimH⩾2. It is proved that a surjective map φ on B(H) preserves operator pairs whose products are nonzero projections in both directions if and only if there is a unitary or an anti-unitary operator U on H such that φ(A)=λU∗AU for all A in B(H) for some constants λ with λ2=1. Related results for surjective maps preserving operator pairs whose triple Jordan products are nonzero projections in both directions are also obtained. These show that the operator pairs whose products or triple Jordan products are nonzero projections are isometric invariants of B(H).

Abstract:Let $$\mathcal {H}$$ be a complex Hilbert space with $$\dim {\mathcal {H}}\ge 2$$ and $$\mathcal {B}(\mathcal {H})$$ the algebra of all bounded linear operators on $$\mathcal {H}$$ . For $$A, B \in \mathcal {B}(\mathcal {H})$$ , A is called a truncation of B if $$A=P_{A}BP_{A^*}$$ , where $$P_{A}$$ and $$P_{A^*}$$ denote projections onto the closures of the range of A and $$A^*$$ , respectively. In this paper, we determine the structures of all bijections on $$\mathcal {B}(\mathcal {H})$$ preserving the truncation of products of operators in both directions. Moreover, we also consider all maps preserving the truncation of triple Jordan products of operators in both directions.

Abstract:Let A and B be (not necessarily unital or closed) standard operator algebras on complex Banach spaces X and Y, respectively. For a bounded linear operator A on X, the peripheral spectrum sigma(pi)(A) of A is defined by sigma(pi)(A) = {z is an element of sigma(A) : vertical bar z vertical bar = max(w is an element of sigma(A)) vertical bar w vertical bar}, where s (A) denotes the spectrum of A. Assume that F : A. B is a map and the range of F contains all operators with rank at most two. It is proved that the map F satisfies the condition that sigma(pi)(Phi(A)Phi(B) + Phi(B)Phi(A))= sigma(pi)(AB+ BA) for all A, B is an element of A if and only if either there exists an invertible operator T is an element of B(X, Y) such that Phi(A) = epsilon TAT(-1) for every A is an element of A; or X and Y are reflexive and there exists an invertible operator T. B(X*, Y) such that F(A) = eTA*T-1 for every A is an element of A, where epsilon is an element of{1,-1}. Furthermore, the same conclusion holds if A and B are replaced by standard real Jordan algebras of self-adjoint operators on complex Hilbert spaces. If X and Y are complex Hilbert space, we characterize also maps preserving the peripheral spectrum of the product AB* + B* A, and prove that such maps are of the form A bar right arrow gamma UAU* or A bar right arrow gamma A(t)U*, where U is an element of B(X, Y) is a unitary operator and gamma is an element of C with vertical bar gamma vertical bar = 1, A(t) denotes the transpose of A for an arbitrary but fixed orthonormal basis of X.

Abstract:Let A(1), A(2) be (not necessarily unital or closed) standard operator algebras on locally convex spaces X-1, X-2, respectively. For k >= 2, consider different products T-k *......* T-k on elements in A(i), which covers the usual product T-1 *...* T-k = T-1...T-k and the Jordan triple product T-1 * T-2 = T2T1T2. Let Phi : A(1) -> A(2) be a (not necessarily linear) map satisfying or (sigma(A(1)) *...* Phi(A(k))) = sigma(A(1) *...* A(k)) whenever any one of A(i)'s has rank at most one. It is shown that if the range of 45 contains all rank one and rank two operators then Phi must be a Jordan isomorphism multiplied by a root of unity. Similar results for self-adjoint operators acting on Hilbert spaces are obtained.

Abstract:Numerical range of operators is a very important concept and it is extensively studied both in theory and applications. Concerning with the preserver problems, a lot of work have been done on maps preserving numerical range on various operator algebras. In this paper we mainly study the maps between some operator algebras of operator spaces which preserve numerical range of products of operators. Let Hi be complex Hibert spaces, i=1,2. For each i, let B(Hi) be the algebra of all bounded linear operators acting on Hi and S a(Hi) the real linear subspace of all self-adjoint operators in B(Hi). We characterize the surjective maps between B(Hi) or S a(Hi), i=1,2, which preserve the numerical range of products of operators, or of skew products of operators, or of Jordan triple-products of operators, or of skew products of operators, or of Jordan triple-products of operators, or of Jordan skew triple-products of operators. Such maps are thoronghly classified, and it turns out, they have very nice structures. In many cases, our results give new characterizations of *-isomorphisms and *-anti-isomorphisms.

Abstract:Let X, Y be real or complex Banach spaces with dimension greater than 2 and let A, B be standard operator algebras on X and Y, respectively. Abstract:Let Φ:A→B be an additive surjective map between some operator algebras such that AB+BA=0 implies Φ(A)Φ(B)+Φ(B)Φ(A)=0. We show that, under some mild conditions, Φ is a Jordan homomorphism multiplied by a central element. Such operator algebras include von Neumann algebras, C∗-algebras and standard operator algebras, etc. Particularly, if H and K are infinite-dimensional (real or complex) Hilbert spaces and A=B(H) and B=B(K), then there exists a nonzero scalar c and an invertible linear or conjugate-linear operator U:H→K such that either Φ(A)=cUAU−1 for all A∈B(H), or Φ(A)=cUA∗U−1 for all A∈B(H).
