Abstract:In this note we consider linear maps on the complex n×n matrix algebra Mn preserving products of either two positive matrices, a positive matrix and a Hermitian matrix, or two Hermitian matrices. We give characterizations of all those injections.

Abstract:Let $\eta\neq -1$ be a non-zero complex number, and let $\phi$ be a not necessarily linear bijection between two von Neumann algebras, one of which has no central abelian projections preserving the Jordan $\eta$-$\ast$-$n$-product. It is showed that $\phi$ is a linear $\ast$-isomorphism if $\eta$ is not real and $\phi$ is the sum of a linear $\ast$-isomorphism and a conjugate linear $\ast$-isomorphism if $\eta$ is real.

Abstract:In solar interior, it is the equilibrium velocity distribution of few high-energy protons and nuclei that participates in determining nuclear fusion reaction rates. So, it is inappropriate to use the Maxwellian velocity distribution to calculate the rates of solar nuclear fusion reactions. We have to use the relativistic equilibrium velocity distribution for the purpose. The nuclear fusion reaction rate based on the relativistic equilibrium velocity distribution has a reduction factor with respect to that based on the Maxwellian distribution. The reduction factor depends on the temperature, reduced mass and atomic numbers of the studied nuclear fusion reactions, in other words, it varies with the sort of neutrinos. Substituting the relativistic equilibrium velocity distribution for the Maxwellian distribution is not important for the calculation of solar sound speeds. The relativistic equilibrium velocity distribution, if adopted in standard solar models, will lower solar neutrino fluxes and change solar neutrino energy spectra but maintain solar sound speeds. This velocity distribution is possibly a solution to the solar neutrino problem.

Abstract:In this paper, we give some characterisations of homomorphisms on von Neumann algebras by linear preservers. We prove that a bounded linear surjective map from a von Neumann algebra onto another is zero-product preserving if and only if it is a homomorphism multiplied by an invertible element in the centre of the image algebra. By introducing the notion of tr-rank of the elements in finite von Neumann algebras, we show that a unital linear map from a linear subspace ℳ of a finite von Neumann algebra ℛ into ℛ can be extended to an algebraic homomorphism from the subalgebra generated by ℳ into ℛ; and a unital self-adjoint linear map from a finite von Neumann algebra onto itself is completely tr-rank preserving if and only if it is a spatial *-automorphism.

Let f:Mn→[0,∞) be a continuous map such that f(μUAU⁎)=f(A) for any complex unit μ, A∈Mn and unitary U∈Mn, f(X)=0 if and only if X=0 and the induced map t↦f(tX) is monotonically increasing on [0,∞) for any rank one nilpotent X∈Mn. Characterization is given for surjective maps ϕ on Mn satisfying f(AB−BA)=f(ϕ(A)ϕ(B)−ϕ(B)ϕ(A)). The general theorem is then used to deduce results on special cases when the function is the pseudo spectrum and the pseudo spectral radius.

Abstract:In this paper, we generalize the Bochner-Kodaira formulas to the case of Hermitian complex (possibly non-holomorphic) vector bundles over compact Hermitian (possibly non-Kähler) manifolds. As applications, we get the complex analyticity of harmonic maps between compact Hermitian manifolds.

Abstract:The objective of this manuscript is to investigate the structure of linear maps on the space of real symmetric matrices that leave invariant the closed convex cones of copositive and completely positive matrices (COP n and CP n ). A description of an invertible linear map on such that L (CP n ) ⊂ CP n is obtained in terms of semipositive maps over the positive semidefinite cone and the cone of symmetric nonnegative matrices for n ⩽ 4, with specific calculations for n = 2. Preserver properties of the Lyapunov map X ↦ AX + XA t , the generalized Lyapunov map X ↦ AXB + B t XA t , and the structure of the dual of the cone π (CP n ) (for n ⩽ 4) are brought out. We also highlight a different way to determine the structure of an invertible linear map on that leaves invariant the closed convex cone .

Abstract:Two (real or complex) $m\times n$ matrices $A$ and $B$ are said to be parallel (resp. triangle equality attaining, or TEA in short) with respect to the spectral norm $\|\cdot\|$ if $\|A+ \mu B\| = \|A\| + \|B\|$ for some scalar $\mu$ with $|\mu|=1$ (resp. $\mu=1$). We study linear maps $T$ on $m\times n$ matrices preserving parallel (resp. TEA) pairs, i.e., $T(A)$ and $T(B)$ are parallel (resp. TEA) whenever $A$ and $B$ are parallel (resp. TEA). It is shown that when $m,n \ge 2$ and $(m,n) \ne (2,2)$, a nonzero linear map $T$ preserving TEA pairs if and only if it is a positive multiple of a linear isometry, namely, $T$ has the form $$(1) \quad A \mapsto \gamma UAV \quad \quad \text{or} \quad \quad (2) \quad A \mapsto \gamma UA^{t} V \quad (\text{in this case}, m = n),$$ for a positive number $\gamma$, and unitary (or real orthogonal) matrices $U$ and $V$ of appropriate sizes. Linear maps preserving parallel pairs are those carrying form (1), (2), or the form $$ (3) \ A \mapsto f(A) Z$$ for a linear functional $f$ and a fixed matrix $Z$. The case when $(m,n) = (2,2)$ is more complicated. There are linear maps of $2\times 2$ matrices preserving parallel pairs or TEA pairs neither of the form (1), (2) nor (3) above. Complete characterization of such maps is given with some intricate computation and techniques in matrix groups.

Abstract:In this paper, we obtain several characterizations of rank preserving linear maps and completely rank nonincreasing linear maps on upper triangular Hilbert space operator matrix algebras and apply them to get some algebraic results. We show that every automorphism of an upper triangular operator matrix algebra is inner and every weakly continuous surjective local automorphism is in fact an automorphism. A weakly continuous linear bijection on an upper triangular operator matrix algebra is idempotent preserving if and only if it is a Jordan homomorphism, and in turn, if and only if it is an automorphism or an anti-automorphism. As an application, we also obtain a result concerning the asymptotic joint-similarity of matrix tuples.

Abstract:In this paper, it is shown that every nonlinear bijective map ψ preserving mixed Jordan triple η -products with η≠−1 from a factor von Neumann algebra M with dim M>1 into another factor von Neumann algebra N with dim N>1 is additive. Also, for α∈{−1,1} , we establish that αψ is a linear *-isomorphism, and is a conjugate linear *-isomorphism only when η∈R .

Abstract:On the set of mappings of the given set, we define the product of mappings. If A is associative algebra, then we consider the set of matrices, whose elements are linear mappings of algebra A. In algebra of matrices of linear mappings we define the operation of product. The operation is based on the product of mappings. If the matrix a of linear mappings has an inverse matrix, then the quasideterminant of the matrix a and the inverse matrix are matrices of linear mappings. In the paper, I consider conditions when a matrix of linear mappings has inverse matrix, as well methods of solving a system of linear equations in an associative algebra.

Abstract:For a positive integer $n$, let $M_n$ be the set of $n\times n$ complex matrices. Suppose $\|\cdot\|$ is the Ky Fan $k$-norm with $1 \le k \le mn$ or the Schatten $p$-norm with $1 \le p \le \infty$ ($p\ne 2$) on $M_{mn}$, where $m,n\ge 2$ are positive integers. It is shown that a linear map $\phi: M_{mn} \rightarrow M_{mn}$ satisfying $$\|A\otimes B\| = \|\phi(A\otimes B)\| \quad \hbox{for all} A \in M_m \hbox{and} B \in M_n$$ if and only if there are unitary $U, V \in M_{mn}$ such that $\phi$ has the form $A\otimes B \mapsto U(\varphi_1(A) \otimes \varphi_2(B))V$, where $\varphi_s(X)$ is either the identity map $X \mapsto X$ or the transposition map $X \mapsto X^t$. The results are extended to tensor space $M_{n_1} \otimes \cdots \otimes M_{n_m}$ of higher level. The connection of the problem to quantum information science is mentioned.

Abstract:Let A and B be unital C~*-algebras, s ∈A and t ∈ B be invertible self-adjoint elements. For every x ∈ A and z ∈B, define x~+=s~(-1)x~*s and z~+=t~(-1)z~*t. Assume that A is of real rank zero and φ: A→B is a bounded linear surjection. This paper shows that, x~+y=0 φ(x)~+φ(y)=0 and xy~+=0 φ(x)φ(y)~+=0 for any x, y ∈ A, if and only if φ(1) is invertible, φ(1)~+φ(1)=φ(1)φ(1)~+ ∈(B) (the center of B) and there exists a surjective +-homomorphism ψ(i.e., ψ is a homomorphism and ψ(x~+)=ψ(x)~+, x ∈A) from A onto B such that φ(x)=φ(1)ψ(x) for all x ∈A. For general C~*-algebra cases, a similar result is obtained for orthogonality preservers under an additional assumption that φ(1) is invertible.

Abstract:By the Choi matrix criteria it is easy to determine if a specific linear matrix map is completely positive, but to establish whether a linear matrix map is positive is much less straightforward. In this paper we consider classes of linear matrix maps, determined by structural conditions on an associated matrix, for which positivity and complete positivity coincide. The basis of our proofs lies in a representation of $*$-linear matrix maps going back to work of R.D. Hill which enables us to formulate a sufficient condition in terms of surjectivity of certain bilinear maps.

Rank properties of exposed positive maps. Linear Multilinear Alg. 2013;61:970–975] that the map Ads generates an exposed ray of the convex cone of all positive linear maps. By invariants of certain functional values of operator products, we characterize some surjective maps on A.
