Abstract:We characterize a nonlinear full invariant of compact Banach-space maps: Let ( X , ‖.‖) and ( Y , ‖.‖) be two Banach spaces and P C ( X , Y ) be all compact maps which map ( X , ‖.‖) to ( Y , ‖.‖). Then each weak operator-topology subseries-convergent series ∑ i P i in P c ( X , Y ) is also uniform-topology subseries-convergent iff each bounded map from ( X , ‖.‖) to ( l 1 , ‖.‖ 1 ) is a compact map. The necessary condition for each weak operator-topology subseries-convergent series ∑ i P i in P C ( X , Y ) to be also uniform-topology subseries-convergent is that ( X , ‖.‖) and ( X ′, ‖.‖) both contain no copy of c 0 . This necessary condition is not sufficient.

Abstract:We study bounded bilinear maps on a C$^*$-algebra $A$ having product property at $c\in A$. This leads us to the question of when a C$^*$-algebra is determined by products at $c.$ In the first part of our paper, we investigate this question for compact C$^*$-algebras, and in the second part, we deal with von Neumann algebras having non-trivial atomic part. Our results are applicable to descriptions of homomorphism-like and derivation-like maps at a fixed point on such algebras.

Abstract:Let A be a standard operator algebra on a complex Hilbert space H of dimension greater than 2. By invariants of certain functional values of operator products, we characterize some surjective maps on A. Furthermore, several kinds of general preserver problems on standard operator algebras are solved when we take respectively the functional as, for example, k-numerical radius (k⩾1), operator norm, Ky Fan k-norm, Schatten p-norm (1⩽p<∞), and so on.

Abstract:Let $T:A\to X$ be a bounded linear operator, where $A$ is a C$^*$-algebra, and $X$ denotes an essential Banach $A$-bimodule. We prove that the following statements are equivalent: $(a)$ $T$ is anti-derivable at zero (i.e. $ab =0$ in $A$ implies $T(b) a + b T(a)=0$); $(b)$ There exist an anti-derivation $d:A\to X^{**}$ and an element $\xi \in X^{**}$ satisfying $\xi a = a \xi,$ $\xi [a,b]=0,$ $T(a b) = b T(a) + T(b) a - b \xi a,$ and $T(a) = d(a) + \xi a,$ for all $a,b\in A$. We also prove a similar equivalence when $X$ is replaced with $A^{**}$. This provides a complete characterization of those bounded linear maps from $A$ into $X$ or into $A^{**}$ which are anti-derivable at zero. We also present a complete characterization of those continuous linear operators which are $^*$-anti-derivable at zero.

Abstract:Let X be an infinite-dimensional complex Banach space, and let B ( X ) be the algebra of all linear and bounded operators on X. In this paper, we characterize linear bijective maps φ on B ( X ) having the property that the spectral radius (respectively, the spectrum) of φ ( A ) equals the spectral radius (respectively, the spectrum) of φ ( B ) for each pair of similar operators A , B ∈ B ( X ) . As a corollary, we obtain a characterization of linear bijective maps on B ( X ) preserving the equality of the spectrum.

Abstract:In this paper, we give some characterisations of homomorphisms on von Neumann algebras by linear preservers. We prove that a bounded linear surjective map from a von Neumann algebra onto another is zero-product preserving if and only if it is a homomorphism multiplied by an invertible element in the centre of the image algebra. By introducing the notion of tr-rank of the elements in finite von Neumann algebras, we show that a unital linear map from a linear subspace ℳ of a finite von Neumann algebra ℛ into ℛ can be extended to an algebraic homomorphism from the subalgebra generated by ℳ into ℛ; and a unital self-adjoint linear map from a finite von Neumann algebra onto itself is completely tr-rank preserving if and only if it is a spatial *-automorphism.

Abstract:Let A and B be (not necessarily unital or closed) standard operator algebras on complex Banach spaces X and Y, respectively. For a bounded linear operator A on X, the peripheral spectrum sigma(pi)(A) of A is defined by sigma(pi)(A) = {z is an element of sigma(A) : vertical bar z vertical bar = max(w is an element of sigma(A)) vertical bar w vertical bar}, where s (A) denotes the spectrum of A. Assume that F : A. B is a map and the range of F contains all operators with rank at most two. It is proved that the map F satisfies the condition that sigma(pi)(Phi(A)Phi(B) + Phi(B)Phi(A))= sigma(pi)(AB+ BA) for all A, B is an element of A if and only if either there exists an invertible operator T is an element of B(X, Y) such that Phi(A) = epsilon TAT(-1) for every A is an element of A; or X and Y are reflexive and there exists an invertible operator T. B(X*, Y) such that F(A) = eTA*T-1 for every A is an element of A, where epsilon is an element of{1,-1}. Furthermore, the same conclusion holds if A and B are replaced by standard real Jordan algebras of self-adjoint operators on complex Hilbert spaces. If X and Y are complex Hilbert space, we characterize also maps preserving the peripheral spectrum of the product AB* + B* A, and prove that such maps are of the form A bar right arrow gamma UAU* or A bar right arrow gamma A(t)U*, where U is an element of B(X, Y) is a unitary operator and gamma is an element of C with vertical bar gamma vertical bar = 1, A(t) denotes the transpose of A for an arbitrary but fixed orthonormal basis of X.

Abstract:Let A and B be unital C*-algebras, and let J ∈ A, L ∈B be Hermitian invertible elements. For every T ∈ A and S ∈ B, define Tj+ = J-1T*J and S+L = L-1S*L. Then in such a way we endow the C*-algebras A and B with indefinite structures. We characterize firstly the Jordan (J, L)-+-homomorphisms on C*-algebras. As applications, we further classify the bounded linear maps Φ: A →B preserving (J, L)-unitary elements. When A =B(H) andB =B(K), where H and K are infinite dimensional and complete indefinite inner product spaces on real orcomplex fields, we prove that indefinite-unitary preserving bounded linear surjectionsare of the form T → UVTV-1 (( )T ∈ B(H)) or T → UVT+V-1 (( )T ∈ B(H)),where U ∈ B(K) is indefinite unitary and, V: H → K is generalized indefinite unitary in the first form and generalized indefinite anti-unitary in the second one.Some results on indefinite orthogonality preserving additive maps are also given.

Abstract:Let A and B be standard operator algebras on infinite dimensional complex Banach spaces X and Y, respectively, and let Φ be an additive surjection from A onto B. We prove that if Φ is unital and preserves any one of (left, right) invertibility, (left, right) zero divisors, (left, right) topological divisors of zero, quasi-affinity, injectivity, surjectivity, range density, lower-boundedness and left (right) maximal ideals in both directions, then it has one of the following forms: isomorphism, conjugate isomorphism, anti-isomorphism and conjugate anti-isomorphism. We also show that Φ preserves zero products in both directions if and only if Φ is either an isomorphism or a conjugate isomorphism.

Abstract:We show that every spectrally bounded linear map Phi from a Banach algebra onto a standard operator algebra acting on a complex Banach space is square-zero preserving. This result is used to show that if Phi(2) is spectrally bounded, then Phi is a homomorphism multiplied by a nonzero complex number. As another application to the Hilbert space case, a classification theorem is obtained which states that every spectrally bounded linear bijection Phi from B(I-I) onto B(K), where H and K are infinite-dimensional complex Hilbert spaces, is either an isomorphism or an anti-isomorphism multiplied by a nonzero complex number. If P is not injective, then Phi vanishes at all compact operators.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{B} (X)$ be the algebra of all bounded linear operators on an infinite-dimensional complex Banach space $X$. In this note, we show that a lemma used in the proof of the main result of [ Taghavi and Hosseinzadeh, linear and Multilinear algebra (2013) 1285-1292.] has an incorrect proof. Then, instead of such a lemma, we provide two elementary lemmas to obtain a proof of Taghavi and Hosseinzadeh's main result free of errors.

Abstract:On the set of mappings of the given set, we define the product of mappings. If A is associative algebra, then we consider the set of matrices, whose elements are linear mappings of algebra A. In algebra of matrices of linear mappings we define the operation of product. The operation is based on the product of mappings. If the matrix a of linear mappings has an inverse matrix, then the quasideterminant of the matrix a and the inverse matrix are matrices of linear mappings. In the paper, I consider conditions when a matrix of linear mappings has inverse matrix, as well methods of solving a system of linear equations in an associative algebra.

Relativistic equilibrium velocity distribution, nuclear fusion reaction rate and the solar neutrino problem

Abstract:In solar interior, it is the equilibrium velocity distribution of few high-energy protons and nuclei that participates in determining nuclear fusion reaction rates. So, it is inappropriate to use the Maxwellian velocity distribution to calculate the rates of solar nuclear fusion reactions. We have to use the relativistic equilibrium velocity distribution for the purpose. The nuclear fusion reaction rate based on the relativistic equilibrium velocity distribution has a reduction factor with respect to that based on the Maxwellian distribution. The reduction factor depends on the temperature, reduced mass and atomic numbers of the studied nuclear fusion reactions, in other words, it varies with the sort of neutrinos. Substituting the relativistic equilibrium velocity distribution for the Maxwellian distribution is not important for the calculation of solar sound speeds. The relativistic equilibrium velocity distribution, if adopted in standard solar models, will lower solar neutrino fluxes and change solar neutrino energy spectra but maintain solar sound speeds. This velocity distribution is possibly a solution to the solar neutrino problem.

Abstract:This is an introduction to the algebras $A\subset B(H)$ that the linear operators $T:H\to H$ can form, once a complex Hilbert space $H$ is given. Motivated by quantum mechanics, we are mainly interested in the von Neumann algebras, which are stable under taking adjoints, $T\to T^*$, and are weakly closed. When the algebra has a trace $tr:A\to\mathbb C$, we can think of it as being of the form $A=L^\infty(X)$, with $X$ being a quantum measured space. Of particular interest is the free case, where the center of the algebra reduces to the scalars, $Z(A)=\mathbb C$. Following von Neumann, Connes, Jones, Voiculescu and others, we discuss the basic properties of such algebras $A$, and how to do algebra, geometry, analysis and probability on the underlying quantum spaces $X$.

Abstract:Let A and B be two factor von Neumann algebras. For A, B∈A, define by [A,B]∗=AB-BA∗ the new product of A and B. In this paper, we prove that a nonlinear bijective map Φ:A→B satisfies Φ([A,B]∗)=[Φ(A),Φ(B)]∗ for all A,B∈A if and only if Φ is a *-ring isomorphism. In particular, if the von Neumann algebras A and B are type I factors, then Φ is a unitary isomorphism or a conjugate unitary isomorphism.

Abstract:Let k be an infinite field, I an infinite set, V a k-vector-space, and g:k^I\to V a k-linear map. It is shown that if dim_k(V) is not too large (under various hypotheses on card(k) and card(I), if it is finite, respectively countable, respectively < card(k)), then ker(g) must contain elements (u_i)_{i\in I} with all but finitely many components u_i nonzero. These results are used to prove that any homomorphism from a direct product \prod_I A_i of not-necessarily-associative algebras A_i onto an algebra B, where dim_k(B) is not too large (in the same senses) must factor through the projection of \prod_I A_i onto the product of finitely many of the A_i, modulo a map into the subalgebra \{b\in B | bB=Bb=\{0\}\}\subseteq B. Detailed consequences are noted in the case where the A_i are Lie algebras.
