Abstract:In this paper, we use Aleksandrov's reflection principle to prove symmetry of solutions to F(∇Sn2u+uI)=f(u,u2+|∇Snu|2), where u is the support function of a convex body, and F is a function of principal radii. As a corollary, alongside [Ivaki, arXiv:2307.06252], we provide an alternative proof of the uniqueness of solution to the isotropic Gaussian-Minkowski problem.

Abstract:This paper presents recent research findings on the connection between test configuration and geodesic ray in Kahler metric space. The purpose was to gain insight on the degeneration of Kahler metrics along geodesic rays. A result associating every smooth test configuration a C-1,C-1 geodesic ray is proved and exemplified with toric degenerations. Furthermore, we show that the Y invariant agrees with Futaki invariant, thus acts as a good substitute in general C-1,C-1 geodesic rays without a background test configuration. Based on the assumption of simple test configuration, we extend Donaldson's correspondence between solutions of Monge-Ampere equation and holomorphic discs. Results indicate that Chen and Tian's analysis on MongeAmpere equation via holomoprhic discs could apply in simple test configuration.
On Positive Scalar Curvature and Moduli of Curves

Abstract:In this article we first show that any finite cover of the moduli space of closed Riemann surfaces of genus $g$ with $g\geq 2$ does not admit any Riemannian metric $ds^2$ of nonnegative scalar curvature such that $ds^2 \succ ds_{T}^2$ where $ds_{T}^2$ is the Teichm\"uller metric. Our second result is the proof that any cover $M$ of the moduli space $\mathbb{M}_{g}$ of a closed Riemann surface $S_{g}$ does not admit any complete Riemannian metric of uniformly positive scalar curvature in the quasi-isometry class of the Teichm\"uller metric, which implies a conjecture of Farb-Weinberger.

Abstract:We prove that constant scalar curvature K\"ahler metric "adjacent" to a fixed K\"ahler class is unique up to isomorphism. This extends the uniqueness theorem of Donaldson and Chen-Tian, and formally fits into the infinite dimensional G.I.T picture described by Donaldson. We prove that the Calabi flow near a cscK metric exists globally and converges uniformly to a cscK metric in a polynomial rate. Viewed in a K\"ahler class, the Calabi flow is also shown to be asymptotic to a smooth geodesic ray at infinity. This latter fact is also interesting in the finite dimensional analogue, where we show that the downward gradient flow of the Kempf-Ness function in a semi-stable orbit is asymptotic to the direction of optimal degeneration.

Abstract:We prove that any finite energy geodesic ray with a finite Mabuchi slope is maximal in the sense of Berman-Boucksom-Jonsson, and reduce the proof of the uniform Yau-Tian-Donaldson conjecture for constant scalar curvature Kähler metrics to Boucksom-Jonsson's regularization conjecture about the convergence of non-Archimedean entropy functional. As further applications, we show that a uniform K-stability condition for model filtrations and the $\mathcal{J}^{K_X}$-stability are both sufficient conditions for the existence of cscK metrics. The first condition is also conjectured to be necessary. Our arguments also produce a different proof of the toric uniform version of YTD conjecture for all polarized toric manifolds. Another result proved here is that the Mabuchi slope of a geodesic ray associated to a test configuration is equal to the non-Archimedean Mabuchi invariant.

Conical Kähler–Einstein Metrics Revisited

Abstract:In this paper we introduce the “interpolation–degeneration” strategy to study Kähler–Einstein metrics on a smooth Fano manifold with cone singularities along a smooth divisor that is proportional to the anti-canonical divisor. By “interpolation” we show the angles in (0, 2π] that admit a conical Kähler–Einstein metric form a connected interval, and by “degeneration” we determine the boundary of the interval in some important cases. As a first application, we show that there exists a Kähler–Einstein metric on ${\mathbb{P}^2}$ with cone singularity along a smooth conic (degree 2) curve if and only if the angle is in (π/2, 2π]. When the angle is 2π/3 this proves the existence of a Sasaki–Einstein metric on the link of a three dimensional A 2 singularity, and thus answers a question posed by Gauntlett–Martelli–Sparks–Yau. As a second application we prove a version of Donaldson’s conjecture about conical Kähler–Einstein metrics in the toric case using Song–Wang’s recent existence result of toric invariant conical Kähler–Einstein metrics.

Abstract:We extend the famous result of Katok and Zemlyakov on the density of half-infinite geodesics on finite flat rational surfaces to half-infinite geodesics on a finite polycube translation $3$-manifold. We also extend this original result to establish a weak uniformity statement.

Abstract:We show that for a generic Riemannian or reversible Finsler metric on a compact differentiable manifold M of dimension at least three all closed geodesics are simple and do not intersect each other. Using results by Contreras (Ann Math 2(172):761–808, 2010; in: Proceedings of International Congress Mathematicians (ICM 2010) Hyderabad, India, pp 1729–1739, 2011) this shows that for a generic Riemannian metric on a compact and simply-connected manifold all closed geodesics are simple and the number N ( t ) of geometrically distinct closed geodesics of length grows exponentially.

Abstract:A well-known conjecture of Caratheodory states that the number of umbilic points on a closed convex surface in ${\mathbb E}^3$ must be greater than one. In this paper we prove this for $C^{3+\alpha}$-smooth surfaces. The Conjecture is first reformulated in terms of complex points on a Lagrangian surface in $TS^2$, viewed as the space of oriented geodesics in ${\mathbb E}^3$. Here complex and Lagrangian refer to the canonical neutral Kaehler structure on $TS^2$. We then prove that the existence of a closed convex surface with only one umbilic point implies the existence of a totally real Lagrangian hemisphere in $TS^2$, to which it is not possible to attach the edge of a holomorphic disc. The main step in the proof is to establish the existence of a holomorphic disc with edge contained on any given totally real Lagrangian hemisphere. To construct the holomorphic disc we utilize mean curvature flow with respect to the neutral metric. Long-time existence of this flow is proven by a priori estimates and we show that the flowing disc is asymptotically holomorphic. Existence of a holomorphic disc is then deduced from Schauder estimates.

Infinite Geodesic Rays in the Space of Kahler Potentials

Abstract:In this paper we prove the existence of solutions of a degenerate complex Monge-Ampere equation on a complex manifold. Applying our existence result to a special degeneration of complex structure, we show how to associate to a change of complex structure ail infinite length geodetic ray in the space of Kahler potentials. We also prove an existence result for the initial value problem for geodesics. We end this paper with a discussion of a list of open problems indicating how to relate our results to the existence problem for extrernal metrics.

Abstract:We prove that a $C^2$-generic Riemannian metric on a closed surface has either an elliptic closed geodesic or an Anosov geodesic flow. As a consequence, we prove the $C^2$-stability conjecture for Riemannian geodesic flows of closed surfaces: a $C^2$-structurally stable Riemannian geodesic flow of a closed surface is Anosov. In order to prove these statements, we establish a general result that may be of independent interest and provides sufficient conditions for a Reeb flow of a closed 3-manifold to be Anosov.

Abstract:We prove several results concerning the existence of surfaces of section for the geodesic flows of closed orientable Riemannian surfaces. The surfaces of section $\Sigma$ that we construct are either Birkhoff sections, meaning that they intersect every sufficiently long orbit segment of the geodesic flow, or at least they have some hyperbolic components in $\partial\Sigma$ as limit sets of the orbits of the geodesic flow that do not return to $\Sigma$. In order to prove these theorems, we provide a study of configurations of simple closed geodesics of closed orientable Riemannian surfaces, which may have independent interest. Our arguments are based on the curve shortening flow.

Geodesic completeness from string T-duality

Abstract:By studying the Raychaudhuri equation for the gravitational force resulting from a string T-duality modified propagator, we present an analysis of the geodesic compression beyond the conventional classical limit. The result is that gravity on short length scales is subject to a screening effect similar to the Debye screening in electrostatics, which prevents the formation of curvature singularities. Using model-independent arguments, we conclude that the conventional attractive nature of gravity is only a low-energy effect.

Abstract:We offer a new approach to the classical topological disk theorem of Reifenberg in the codimension-1 case. Our proof, using 1/2-level sets of the smoothing of the characteristic function of the domain Omega as approximating surfaces of partial derivative Omega, is much simpler than Reifenberg's original one (1960). We also extend the result to parabolic space.

Abstract:In this paper, we provide new and simpler proofs of two theorems of Gluck and Harrison on contact structures induced by great circle or line fibrations. Furthermore, we prove that a geodesic vector field whose Jacobi tensor is parallel along flow lines (e.g. if the underlying manifold is locally symmetric) induces a contact structure if the 'mixed' sectional curvatures are nonnegative, and if a certain nondegeneracy condition holds. Additionally, we prove that in dimension three, contact structures admitting a Reeb flow which is either periodic, isometric, or free and proper, must be universally tight. In particular, we generalise an earlier result of Geiges and the author, by showing that every contact form on whose Reeb vector field spans a line fibration is necessarily tight. Furthermore, we provide a characterisation of isometric Reeb vector fields. As an application, we recover a result of Kegel and Lange on Seifert fibrations spanned by Reeb vector fields, and we classify closed contact 3-manifolds with isometric Reeb flows (also known as R -contact manifolds) up to diffeomorphism.
