Abstract:Due to the differences of institutions and development stages,planning education in China and in the USA has much difference in values and approaches.This paper starts with the introduction of different periods of planning education of China and the USA since the 20th century,and compares the similarities and differences between the context,institutions and challenges of Chinese cities and those of American cities.It concludes with the discussion on what can be learned from each other under the financial and energy crisis to strike the balance between" capacity building" and "consensus making"," regulatory planning" and "incentive planning".
