Abstract:“China’s internationalization” is in part realized through the dissemination of Chinese publications, such as academic journals. Therefore, editorial proficiency in the English language is of vital importance to the quality of the journals. This article analyzes the results of the two projects sponsored by the General Administration of Press and Publication of the People’s Republic of China in 2007 and 2010 respectively, namely the “Analytical Evaluation of Language and Editing Quality of Chinese Academic Journals in English Language Issued in 2006”, and the “Evaluation of Publication Quality of the China-Grown English Periodicals Issued in 2009, Sanctioned from 2005 to 2009”, and proposes solutions to the problems presented therein.

Abstract:A la recherche du temps perdu, written by a famous French writer Marcel Proust, is regarded as one of the classic works in the literary history. During more than a decade of introduction in China, this work has received close attention, especially for the translation of its title. However, no consensus has been reached. By reviewing how this novel has been translated, the present paper revolves mainly around arguments and controversial ideas about the Chinese translation of its title. Various factors leading to this divergence are also discussed, such as comprehension of the theme of the novel, method of re-expression, translators’ aspiration, and readers’ expectation, etc, which broaden the space of understanding the writer and his work.

Abstract:The paper aims to,on the basis of dependency grammar,investigate how Chinese words are used in texts of different styles to fulfill syntactic function in corpora.We use two dependency corpora —XINWENLIANBO and SHIHUASHISHUO— as the samples of written Chinese and spoken Chinese,and two smaller dependency corpora,XJ-K and XJ-S,as supplements.The results show that spoken Chinese and written Chinese show considerable difference in the word classes that are used to fulfill certain syntactic function.To be specific,most subjects are nouns in written Chinese,while pronouns in spoken Chinese.In addition,in spoken Chinese,many word classes can serve as attributives,and yet it is overwhelmingly nouns that serve as attributives in written Chinese.

Abstract:Punctuation marks are also used in news headlines, which play an important role in conveying news information to readers. There are some differences between the punctuation marks used in the headlines of Japanese news in the Chinese-Japanese translation section of People’s Daily’s Japanese edition and those used in Japanese news websites. “,” and “.” are rarely added to news headlines on Japanese news websites. Use “「」” or “()” to quote or explain. Compared with this, there are obviously more punctuation marks used in Japanese news headlines of the Chinese-Japanese translation section of People’s Daily’s Japanese edition, such as “,” and “?” And “!”, “,” etc. Section in the mutual translation of this paper is to People’s Daily online Japanese version the solstice on February 7, 2021 on April 2 until 30 news title language as the research object, based on the investigation to the Japanese punctuation usage, understanding the characteristics of the Japanese, grasp the translation of Japanese language features of news headlines, facilitate in the later translation more accurately using auxiliary expression of punctuation, To build a bridge of friendly communication between the Chinese and Japanese people.

Abstract:The use of respondent quotes to headline qualitative research papers is a popular literary device found in many academic journals. This practice has increased over the last four decades and now appears normalised within qualitative research writing. This article provides a critical analysis of this trend in academic writing and concomitant publishing. Content and framework analyses of 40 papers employing this literary device to summarise the respective studies identified (i) a lack of methodological rigor, (ii) incomplete analysis, (iii) an overall mis-representation of the wider qualitative dataset, and (iv) possible investigator bias associated with using respondent quotes as titles of qualitative research papers. This article questions the credibility of purposely selecting a single experience that reduces the wider collective experience into one deterministic statement. This article contends that such practice is antithetical to the principles of qualitative research. Recommendations are provided to better monitor this practice throughout the academy.

Abstract:Title of a research article is an abstract of the abstract. Titles play a decisive role in convincing readers at first sight whether articles are worth reading or not. Not only do research article titles show how carefully words are chosen by authors, but also reflect disciplinary differences in terms of title words and structure between hard sciences and soft sciences. This study examined the lexical density and syntactic structure of 690 research article titles chosen from five Library Science and Scientometrics journals, aiming to reveal disciplinary differences. The result suggested both Library Science and Scientometrics have almost the same title length and the prevalent usage of Nominal Phrase (NP) to govern the title structure. The result also stated some disciplinary differences: Library Science demonstrates more punctuation complexity, particularly a greater frequency in using colons; but Scientometrics shows more involvement of words related to research methods, which is an indicator to papers' scientific value, and more usage of declarative Full Sentence (FS) structure, which were mostly discovered in the research articles in hard sciences.

Conflict and Harmony:On the International Translation Versions of Tai Ji Quan

Abstract:Methods such as literature survey,interviews with experts and induction have been adopted to look at the different spelling forms of Tai Ji Quan appeared in books of foreign language editions published at home and abroad.This study suggests that it is appropriate to use the pinyin version Tai Ji Quan combined with Tai Chi Chuan,the spelling system of Wade-Giles that is better recognized in overseas countries.The study also suggests that whether the translation version of Tai Ji Quan is Wade-Giles of historical continuity or pinyin that announces Chinese local culture,they both feature a cultural integration of Chinese and Western cultures instead of conflicts rising from differences of the two cultures.The discussion and research on the translation of Tai Ji Quan aim to promote dialogue and exchange between Chinese and Western cultures,enabling both parts to learn from each other and jointly improve the cultural character of one's own.
