Abstract:Formation of dihydrobenzofurans from aryl allyl ethers was catalyzed by in situ generated PPh3AuOTf. This reaction appears to proceed by a Claisen rearrangement, followed by addition of the resulting phenol to the allyl group.

Abstract:An efficient process based on the gold-catalyzed redox reaction has been developed to oxidize 1,2-diarylacetylene or ynamide to 1,2-diaryldiketone or α-keto imide respectively. This process can tolerate a variety of functional groups and affords 1,2-dicarbonyl compounds in excellent yields under mild reaction conditions.

Abstract:A highly regio-and stereoselective Pd-catalyzed cascade reaction of allenoate adducts has been developed. Various allenoate adducts of phosphine-catalyzed addition of allenoates are found to be efficient substrates for the preparation of 2,3-dihydrobenzofuran. It is the first example of allenoate adducts used as ideal and practical precursors of hard-to-get functionalized 1,3-butadienes for heterocycle synthesis.

Abstract:A novel method for the assembly of multisubstitued dihydropyridines has been developed starting from methyl propiolate and propargylamines. The reactions were efficiently catalyzed by AuPPh3Cl to get high regioselectivity and high yields. And alternatively, since propargylamines could be easily derived by the CuCl-mediated addition of methyl propiolate to imines, the reactions could be carried out as a sequential three-component model.

Abstract:Although various methods for the preparation of dibenzofurans are available, an efficient, general synthesis of dibenzofurans from benzofurans remains an unsolved problem. Herein, we provide the first benzannulation of readily prepared 2‐nitrobenzofurans with alkylidene malononitriles. This methodology enables facile assembly of a wide variety of highly functionalized dibenzofurans in moderate to excellent yields under metal‐free conditions. Gram‐scale synthesis and further elaborations of the product were succesfully performed, demonstrating synthetic utility of this method.

Abstract:Difluoroenoxysilane, a commonly used difluoroallylating reagent, has attracted considerable attention in recent years. However, its application in the annulation reaction for the construction of fluorinated heterocyclic compounds remains relatively limited. Presented here is the Bronsted acid-catalyzed efficient formal [4 + 2] annulation of difluoroenoxysilanes with alpha-cyano chalcones. The developed protocol demonstrates tolerance to various substituents under mild reaction conditions, providing a reliable approach to construct gem-difluoro-3,4-dihydro-2H-pyrans in good to excellent yields with high diastereoselectivities.

Abstract:A gold-catalyzed asymmetric intermolecular [3 + 2]-cycloaddition of gamma-1-ethoxyethoxy-propiolate and aldehydes by the use of the chiral phosphoramidite (S,R,R)-5a is developed, which provides facile access to highly substituted 2,5-dihydrofurans in up to 84% yield with up to 97% ee. Control experiments support the result that this transformation indeed proceeds via an all-carbon gold 1,3-dipole with an open carbocation rather than a S(N)2 type reaction.

Abstract:Intramolecular annulations of allenes towards furans to give six-membered ring fused furans with gold and platinum catalysts have been developed. It was found that allenes can be activated by gold catalysts and attacked by the furan rings to generate six-membered rings. When PtCl4 was used as a catalyst, the annulation also gives six-membered ring fused furans, but the carbon-carbon double bond in the products shifted to form conjugation with the furan ring with a high Z/E ratio.

Abstract:We report here a general synthetic methodology for palladium-catalyzed carbonylative annulation of o-alkynylphenol to construct 2-substituted-3-aroyl-benzo[b]furan. On the basis of the results, this methodology could be applied to a wider selection of iodide substrates to generate desired products. In accordance with mechanistic studies, this process involves coordination of cationic and less hindered acyl palladium complexes with o-alkynylphenols to create a desired cascade triad (coordination, nucleophilic addition, and reductive elimination). Consistent with this mechanism, addition of 1 equiv of AgBF4 to palladium catalyst Pd(Ph3P)(4) generates an ideal candidate for this unique transformation.

Abstract:Claisen rearrangements of allyl aryl ethers to generate enones bearing all carbon quaternary centers are accelerated by Ph3PAuNTf2 under mild conditions in good yields. Multiple C-C bond containing variants of the allyl fragment are viable, including alkylidenecyclopropanes, allenes, and alkynes, which generate all-carbon stereogenic centers substituted with vinyl cyclopropanes, 1,3-butadienyl, and allenyl substituents, respectively, for subsequent synthetic manipulation. With allyl phenyl ethers, the product of the [3,3] rearrangements can be trapped by a tandem [4 + 2] cycloaddition to generate complex molecular scaffolds from readily available, achiral starting materials.

Abstract:The hydroxyl group was discovered to promote gold catalyzed hydrofluorination of alkynes via hydrogen bonding interaction. Based on this strategy, propargyl alcohols could be hydrofluorinated smoothly using Et3N·3HF under acidic additive-free conditions, which provided a straightforward alternative protocol for the synthesis of 3-fluoroallyl alcohols.
