Abstract:A simple reduction/oxidation chemical solution approach at room temperature has been developed to synthesize ultrafine SnO2 nanocrystals, in which NaBH4 is used as a reducing agent instead of mineralizers such as sodium hydroxide, ammonia, and alcohol. The morphology, structure, and optical property of the ultrafine SnO2 nanocrystals have been characterized by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis (DSC-TGA), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and UV-vis absorption spectroscopy. It is indicated that the uniform tetragonal ultrafine SnO2 nanocrystals with the size below 2 nm have been fabricated at room temperature. The band gap of the ultrafine SnO2 nanocrystals is about 4.1 eV, exhibiting 0.5 eV blue shift from that of the bulk SnO2 (3.6 eV). Furthermore, the mechanism for the reduction/oxidation chemical reaction synthesis of the ultrafine SnO2 nanocrystals has been preliminary presented. (C) 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract:The SnO2 nanocrystals were successfully synthesized by hydrothermal method and the structures and morphologies of SnO2 nanocrystal were characterized by X-ray diffraction( XRD) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy ( HRTEM). The growth and dislocation of SnO2 nanocrystal were discussed. The results show that the growth of the nanocrystals depends on amorphous composition and the nanocrystals are defect-free below annealing temperature 500 ℃. However,the growth of nanocrystals depends on bonding with each other above 500 ℃. Imperfect oriented attachment leads to defects and dislocations in the nanocrystals.

Abstract:SnO 2 nanoparticles have been successfully synthesized by a facile hydrothermal method from SnCl 2 ·2H 2 O, hexamethylenetetramine, and trisodium citrate in water at 120 °C for 12 h. The effects of surfactant and precipitant on SnO 2 synthesis were investigated. SnO 2 nanoparticles can be synthesized in the temperature range of 120-180 °C with long reaction time in the presence of trisodium citrate. When NaOH was used as precipitant instead of hexamethylenetetramine, it is difficult to obtain SnO 2 nanoparticles at 120 °C in the presence of trisodium citrate. SnO 2 nanoparticles with an average size of about 5 nm show good crystallinity and excellent sensitivity to ethanol and acetaldehyde in about 55% relative humidity.

Abstract:Uniform nanosized SnO2 particles were prepared by a hydrothermal method using SnCl4 . 5H(2)O as the starting material. The influences of reaction temperature, acidity in reaction medium and concentration of reactant on the formation, morphology and particle size of SnO2 crystallite were investigated, The XRD analysis showed that the products formed at different temperatures (120 similar to 220 degrees C) in acid medium were all tetragonal SnO2. With raising reaction temperature, particles grew gradually. Their particle sizes were ca. 2 nm (120 degrees C) similar to nm (220 degrees C) in [SnCl4]=1 mol/L, pH=1.45, respectively. Decreasing the acidity in reaction medium appropriately (for example pH=1.45) favored a decrease in particle size and an increase in yield.

Abstract:Abstract PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 nanocrystals were synthesized by a hydrothermal method. The effect of NaOH concentration, reaction temperature and time on nucleation and growth of PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 nanocrystals was investigated. As the 0.05 mol/L PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 precursors were heated at 200 °C for 21 h with NaOH concentration of 0.5 mol/L, the tetragonal PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 nanocrystals were formed, and the grain size was more than 20 nm. With increasing the NaOH concentration from 0.5 to 1.5 mol/L, the grain size of PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 nanocrystals decreased. When the precursors were heated at different temperatures (140 °C to 200 °C) for 21 h with 1.0 mol/L NaOH, single-phase PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 nanocrystals were obtained at 160 °C to 200 °C. With increasing the reaction temperature from 160 °C to 200 °C, the grains size of PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 nanocrystals increased from 5 nm to 9 nm. When the precursors were heated at 160 °C in different reaction times from 6 h to 21 h, the evolution from amorphous to crystalline PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 nanocrystals in correlation with the reaction time was observed. Single crystalline PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 nanocrystals with narrow size distribution (from 5 nm to 9 nm) were synthesized by controlling the NaOH concentration, reaction temperature and time. The obtained results can find potential application in preparing PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 thin films on flexible substrates.

Abstract:5 nm crystallites of SnO2 were prepared by hydrothermal technique in nitric acid solution starting from pure metallic Sn. The phase and size were determined by XRD and TEM. The specific surface area measured by BET method was as high as 150.6 m2/g. IR spectrum revealed that the content of water was rather low. The contents of other metallic impurities were determined by XPS and AES, respectively.

Abstract:SnO2 nanoparticles with high surface areas were successfully synthesized by hydrothermal method. The crystallizing process was characterized by means of FT-IR, XRD, BET and TEM. FT-IR showed that hydrated tin oxide was transformed to SnO2 crystallite at 120 degreesC. XRD showed that the products were all at nanometer scale, and the crystatlite size increased while the surface areas decreased with the increase of hydrothermal temperature, and TEM revealed that the nanoparticles were monodispersed. When the hydrothermally synthesized particles were given heat treatment, the particles grew faster and the dispersity was abnormally improved.

Abstract:The synthesis of tin oxide (SnO2) nanoparticles by mechanochemical reaction (SnCl2+Na2CO3) with NaCl as diluent and subsequent thermal treatment was investigated using differential thermal analysis (DTA), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared spectroscopy (IR) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Heat treatment of the as-milled powder at 600°C in air and removal of NaCl through washing produced the SnO2 nanocrystallites with an average crystal size of about 28 nm, varying with the thermal treatment temperature. The mechanism of nanocrystallites growth is discussed.

Abstract:Nanocrystalline SnO2 powders were successfully synthesized by oxidation of granulated tin - hydrothermal method. Microstructure and morphology of prepared SnO2 were characterized by means of FT-IR,XRD,TEM and DTA etc. The effects of various factors, such as reaction temperature, time, reaction medium and pressure etc, on the size and morphology of the product were investigated. The TEM results show that the prepared SnO2 powders were consisted of nanoparticles having uniform size 4 ~10nm and have a tetragonal cassiterite structure. The reaction medium, temperature and pressure have obvious effects on the size, morphology and distribution, respectively, but the reaction time has little effect on the size of samples if it is more than 12 hours.

Abstract:SnO2 nanocrystals were prepared by a hydrothermal method using SnCl(4)(.)5H(2)O as the raw material and Na2SO4 as mineralizer at lower reaction temperature and shorter time. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Transmission electron microscope (TEM) and Infrared spectroscopy (IR) were used to characterize the crystallizing process of SnO2. The results show that smaller particles of SnO2 nanocrystals are obtained at 120 degrees C for 4 h using Na2SO4 as the mineralizer. XRD results show that the broadening of the diffraction peaks becomes narrower and sharper as the hydrothernial temperature turns higher or the time turns longer. TEM results show that the particles have narrow size distributions. The reaction temperature and time have obvious Influences on the crystallinity and particle size. The mechanism of the effect of Na2SO4 on SnO2 formation was analyzed.

Abstract:High-purity powders of SnO nanocrystallites with crystallite sizes less than 30 nm and surface areas up to 40 m2/g have been synthesized by a solution process, in which amorphous oxy–hydroxy precipitate of Sn+2 is crystallized with microwave heating. Microwave heating was found to have selectively accelerated SnO crystallization but not the concurrent Sn+2-to-Sn+4 oxidation, which otherwise prevails in the conventional thermal heating process. Control studies give strong indication of a non-temperature effect of the microwave irradiation in the present process.

Abstract:In this paper, we report our research on morphologically selective synthesis of nanocrystalline SnO2 by the combination of hydrothermal preparation and calcinated process. We firstly prepared SnO2 nanocrystals by the hydrothermal method at 140 degrees C for 3 h, using SnCl4 as the reactant, With the initial pH of 1. 8 or 1. 34, we prepared uniform and well-dispersed SnO2(tetragonal) nanocrystals, with similar size of about 3 nm, as determined by TEM. However, after being calcinated at 500 degrees C for 2 h, specimen 1 prepared at pH = 1. 8 showed the rod-like shape with an average size of 5 nm x 20 nm, while the other one (specimen 2) prepaed at pH = 1. 34 showed a granular shape with an average size of 10 nm. XRD experiments showed that specimen 1 had a new diffraction peak after calcination, which was contributed by the (023) face of orthorhombic SnO2. The experiment results indicated that the morpholgy of SnO2 nanocrystals after calcination was closely related to the initial acidity of the reaction solution, possibly due to the difference in surface properties, e. g. the difference in crystalline faces exposed to the surface of particals, under different hydrothermal conditions.

Abstract:Nanocrystalline SnO2 was synthesized by direct mixing and grinding of SnCl4·5H2O and NaOH at room temperature, followed by calcination at different temperatures for different times in air. Product samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscope, revealing that the amorphous precursor SnO2 was transformed to crystals at 200 °C for 3 h, and that the average particle size increased upon raising the calcining temperature or prolonging the calcining time. The mechanism of the phase transformation of the products is discussed.

Abstract:Nanoparticles of Al-doped SnO2 have been hydrothermally synthesized. The influences of the hydrothermal reaction time, the molar ratio of Sn/Al as well as the pH value of the solution have been studied. During the hydrothermal synthesis, the particle’s core is rich in Sn and the surface is rich in Al. The Al-rich surface prevents the particles from further growing up either in the hydrothermal condition or during the calcination at 600°C for a short period of time. The optimal hydrothermal synthesis condition of the nanoparticles is pH 5, Sn/Al=4:1 and 12h at 160°C. The products have been studied by XRD, TEM and 27Al solid-state NMR.

Abstract:A simple hydrothermal process is proposed for synthesizing SnO2 quantum dots (QDs), in which hydrazine hydrate is used as the mineralizer instead of NaOH. X-ray diffraction, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and UV - vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) were employed to characterize the product. The HRTEM image shows that the diameters of the SnO2 nanoparticles fall into a small range of 2.3 - 3.1 nm, with the majority being less than the exciton Bohr radius of SnO2 (similar to 2.7 nm). Analysis of the DRS spectrum showed the band gap of the SnO2 QDs to be 3.88 eV, exhibiting a 0.28 eV blue shift from that of the bulk SnO2 (3.6 eV). The mechanism for hydrothermal synthesis of the SnO2 QDs using hydrazine hydrate as the mineralizer is discussed.

Abstract:SnO2 nanorods with the rutile structure have been successfully synthesized by a novel hydrothermal method. This process requires no high temperature. In this reaction, the surfactant cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) plays an important template-directed role. Select-area electron diffraction (SAED) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) showed that the nanorods were crystalline with the rutile structure. The morphologies of the as-prepared products were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The effect of the concentration of SnCl4 on the morphology was discussed.

Abstract:Tin dioxide (SnO2) nanoparticles were synthesized by hydrothermal method at concentrations of 3.4, 6, and 9 mM, and at synthesis times of 12, 14, and 16 h. The vibrational modes studied by Raman spectroscopy indicate the formation of a Sn02 phase. The structural properties of the samples analyzed by X-ray diffraction indicate that the synthesized Sn02 nanoparticles have the tetragonal crystalline phase of space group P42/mnm. From the scanning electron microscopy results, the formation of agglomerated nanoparticles with a spherical structure with sizes less than 10.5 nm is observed.

Abstract:Well-dispersed crystalline tin dioxide (SnO2) nanoparticles were synthesized by a novel and simple water-m-oil (w/o) microemulsion-assisted hydrothermal process, using low-cost tin chloride as the starting material. The typical quaternary microemulsions of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB)/n-pentanol/n-hexane/water were used as space-confined microreactors for the nucleation, growth, and crystallization of SnO2 nanoparticles under hydrothermal conditions. The techniques of XRD, TEM, HRTEM, SAED, EDS, FTIR, XPS, and N-2 adsorption measurement were used to characterize the compositions and structures of obtained samples. The results show that the SnO2 nanoparticles have high specific areas (107-169 m(2) g(-1)), small particle sizes (ca. 3.0 nm), high crystallinity, and narrow size distributions. The well-dispersed, uniform, and well-crystallized powders with microporous texture are favorable for gas-sensing applications. The as-developed microemulsion-assisted in situ crystallizing process can be extended to prepare other oxide, metal, and sulfide nanoparticles. (C) 2004 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Abstract:The SnO_2 nanorods with rutile structure were synthesized at 430℃ for 20h with NaOH as mineralizer by hydrothermal method.The morphological of nanocrystals is different when the pH of solution is 2,4,11,respectively.The long nanorod crystals with diameters of 10-20nm and lengths of 100-200nm were synthesized in a high acidic solution or high alkaline solution.
