Abstract:The essence of technology is the unity of human nature and substance of matter.The degree of unity of human nature and substance of matter,i.e.the degree of their inherent relatedness is ever changing and must be viewed in historical context.The alienation and self-transcendence of technology lead to the conflict befween human nature and substance of matter and the negation of the essence of technology,which brings along all kinds of crisis and predicament in the technologization process.The only possible solution for alienation of technology is to search for a way to poeticize technology.

Abstract:The process of human understanding of the world starts from viewing complex chaos, proceeding to monism followed by the contradiction theory, and finally returning to complexity theory, but without giving up the pursuit of monism. Lao-Tzu and Heraclitus put forward their own theories of unity of opposites at almost the same time. The thought of unity of opposites has long been contained in the theory of yin and yang and the Book of Changes. In the ontology of information evolution, existence and nonexistence (you and wu in Chinese) can also be roughly interpreted as a contradictory relationship. Existence and nonexistence are two opposing worlds. Our understanding of existence needs medium. We can only indirectly grasp the current meaning of existence after the transmission of multilayer mediums and the distortion and loss of information. Aristotle mentioned the notion of medium, but the real world cannot be explained by his ideas. All transformational processes of existence rely on medium. The transformation process of existence and nonexistence is different from the transformation process in the domain of existence. There is no need to rely on medium.

Abstract:The composition of Minna von Barnhelm (1767) enables Lessing to conceal the tragic situation of Tellheim and to create a comical figure of moral integrity, whose overestimate of honour und autonomy drives him to the desperation towards the goodness of Providence. Through a close reading of Tellheim's behaviour during the war and the context of his lawsuit, this paper tries to reveal the rationality of Tellheim's seemingly irrational behaviour and the tragic element of his situation. Tellheim's desperation results from the fear of the loss of his honour, a social status, which turns out to be the external, nevertheless necessary precondition of his moral fulfilment. On the other hand, it is indeed Minna's fictional tragedy that affects Tellheim. Through the sympathy with Minna and the catharsis of his disturbed emotion, Tellheim retrieves his spirit of adventure for the sake of love and friendship despite the uncertain future.

Abstract:"Tacitus Trap" is a hot research topic in China in recent years. However, first of all, there are some misinterpretations and misunderstandings in the naming of "Tacitus trap". In fact, Pan Zhichang’s contribution to the naming of the "Tacitus Trap" is indisputable. Secondly, in terms of the connotation of "Tacitus trap", which is not aimed at the problem of credibility, but the public power behind the credibility. It reveals the secret of the two challenges of "hunger" and "fear" in the process of civilization. Moreover, the maximization of food and clothing is even worse than the minimization of fear. Therefore, the ability to defuse social risks is closely related to the crossing of the Tacitus Trap.

Abstract:Nietzsche presented his own unique insight on Greek tragedy and summarized the spirit of Dionysus.However,the spirit of Dionysus is not only a matter of creativity but also a tremendous sabotage.The representation of this sabotage in Greek tragedy is the vicious behaviors of various characters,and it also reflects that at the beginning of human's formation they had these evil personalities.Meanwhile,this also has similarities with Freud's theory of unconscious mental structure—there is always impulsive and cruel primitive thirty in men's unconsciousness;although being controlled by the conscious part,people still behave inimically to satisfy their lusts.Thus,to analyze the evil personality of human beings has become a significant way to have a better understanding of the Greek tragedy.

Abstract:Owing to the conquering of life by science, technology, market, capital and state, the “oblivion of existence” has become a deep crisis for modernity. Since the latter half of 20~ th century, the medium revolution has integrated different forces and caused the implosion of everyday life via the penetration into the private spheres, the demolishing of distances and the dissolution of the real. Therefore the crisis of modernity has turned into the impossibility of everyday life. Confronting this aporia, contemporary western thinkers have tried many ways for “emancipation,” but have all faded into pure gestures of “showing” owing to the lack of real impact of daily life.

Abstract:Abstract Yuan Zhen’s “Tale of Yingying” has long been known for its ambiguous narrative voice. This article argues that what we perceive as a conflict in the narrative voice, did not exist for readers of the Tang dynasty (618-907). The tale was composed to emphasize the essential nature of ritual propriety for both men and women; both the male protagonist Zhang and the female character Yingying are targets of criticism. Unearthing the resonances and allusions of the discourse, and analyzing the social and political background of the mid-Tang, this study proposes that the tale may be read at two levels, using ritual propriety as key. From the literary point of view, this tale presents a regrettable love story, one that does not yield its fruit, due to the tide of passion – passion is the crucial element in romance, but in the end, it is also passion that drives the two lovers apart. From the didactic point of view, the author condemns Yingying not in self-justification, as those who support the autobiographical reading often presume, but because she is a fallen woman and a potentially dangerous femme fatale . Zhang is ridiculed for initiating the ritual transgression, and in failing to behave as a junzi (gentleman). This tale is an educational inquiry into self-cultivation and politics. By incorporating two points of view, that of Zhang and that of Yingying, the tale provokes reflection on the nature of romance and its possible effects on men and women, and ultimately, the indispensability of propriety.

Abstract:The preoccupation with human nature is deeply rooted in literature. This paper starts from the ancient Chinese rudimentary understanding of human nature, then passes through Mo Yan’s Frog, an epistolary novel which covers the 30-year history of the Chinese population control policy through the description of an obstetrician in quest of her own human nature, and ends with her mediation and effort to retrieve goodness in the face of state will. Mo Yan, as well as many other Chinese people, does not deny that the onechild family policy had been laid down with a good intention to promote the general welfare of all citizens in China. But through a detailed reading of the novel Frog, it is argued that this policy might be a legalized illegality, which results in the schizophrenia of the main character out of the dilemma of justifying her deeds as virtue or vice. It is suggested that the experience of the female character in the novel, as well as in the contemporary Chinese society, should be investigated allegorically, and it reveals a universal issue about the complexity of human nature, for in a certain sense, one may start aiming to be Mother Theresa, but end in finding himself or herself merely a devoted clownlike servant of the state will.

Abstract:Postmodern is not only in a state of chaos in the history of contemporary China, but has also been serverely distorted and altered. If somebody says in the first phase of the beginning for speech in postmodern, people could not distinguish clearly the relationship between the two; in other words, to creat a new image for the new theoretical speech it resulted in the exaggeration of the opposition and crack between the two, now there is no reason to make artifical conflict between the two till now. Postmodern is never to abandon in a simple way, nor to overturn it. It is to revise, to develop and to finish for modern nature under the more reasonable and unhurried condition. The perplexity in the practice of literary creation in China also shows the urgent need of rebuilding the ideological vision for postmodern and for the aesthetic power of expression.

Abstract:Even if we know about Chen Yingzhen for his active role in the controversy over"Country Literature,"in the discussion of the"Taiwan Complex"and"China Complex,""Cold War"mentality and national dissention some 20 years ago, even if we know about him for his work in his revisit of history for"truth"in the 1990s, and his participation in the controversy over"Hew History of Taiwan's Literature,"and in the critique of colonialist literary perspective in the new century, even if we know him as a thinker, and social critic, he still features as a stranger. The estrangement results from the change of an intellectual, who has experienced China's transition from a closed society of cultural autocracy to an open society after the revolution and class struggle. Our estrangement also comes from re-reading such a familiar but new intellectual. The new generation in Mainland China growing up in a relatively wealthy society and relaxed cultural atmosphere since the campaign of Chinese Economic Reform reads Chen Yingzhen and finds him strange because of the gap in time and space. Chen Yingzhen as a left-wing intellectual remains committed in his protest discourse against the authoritative ideology as his sense of social responsibility demands, who exposes social wrongs, and has become an intellectual of clear and critical mind in Taiwan. Awakened from the nightmare of the ultra-left trend of thought in Mainland China, people take a more flexible and open mind to the previous system of thought. The discrepancy between insistence and flexibility toward ideological changes results in the re-evaluation of Chen Yingzhen as a familiar and strange intellectual.

Abstract:As one of the series of novels with the theme of human existence in the city, The Box Man, written by Kobo Abe, reflects the thinking of human self-consciousness in the unrealistic situation of transformation. In the novel, Character A’s closeness to the man he imitates reflects his self-identity. The box man’s jealousy of the doctor who impersonates him demonstrates a loss of “ego”. Finally, the revenge of the box man on the impostor demonstrates the determination to regain himself. By analyzing the process of the box man’s self-construction, it can be found that the box man’s outrageous behaviors reflect the crisis of his self-consciousness and his resistance to survival in society. From the perspective of Lacan’s mirror stage theory, the self-construction of the protagonists in The Box Man has particular significance for a deeper understanding of the spiritual connotation of Abe’s novels with the theme of urban disappearance.
