Abstract:<Abstrcat> Social free order consists of mental free order and legal free order; the former is constructed by aesthetic morality theory, while the latter, by political justice. Yet both cannot separate from each other. In Chinese culture, the establishment of mental free order has been paid too much attention to, and the function of aesthetic morality theory has been overstated. Therefore, we must attach greater importance to the establishment of legal free order, that is, legal free order must has priority over menal free order in the course of modernization drive. In this way, we can build a really harmonious society.

Abstract:The real grand in modern and contemporary Chinese literatur is moral narration.Its substantial content can find expression in above everything and personal morality first.Though the May 4th literary movement advocated morality against old morality,which was a revolutionary mark of narrative conversion,certain fundamental value principles of traditional moral narration still played a decisive role in the deeper structure of morality.The promotion of new morality is closely related with traditional moral narration.Moral narration,on the one hand,is the extension of the aesthetic principle of above everything,on the other,it gradually develops into aesthetically pragmatic moral narration.

Abstract:In contemporary China,with the social transformation accelerated,the interpersonal relations have been greatly expanded. In particular,the gradual popularization of the Internet and the rapid development in the Internet technology and self-media has brought about tremendous changes in the content and form of interpersonal interactions. Accordingly,the openness,interactivity and heterogeneity of people's social life have been greatly enhanced and there is an explosion of the influence of virtual society formed in the cyberspace on the public sphere. The area which is the first to have surely felt the impact of these changes is morality. It is a common and basic desire for the people in a community to live a moral life so that moral judgments form an important force promoting the social development. Moral criticism is usually the prelude to other criticisms and at the same time becomes the driving force for the pursuit of a purified moral life. However,if the moral judgment goes to the extreme of pan-moralization,many issues outside the sphere of morality will be moralized and the abuse of morality will be inevitable. Therefore,the key to the construction of morality in the new era is to first define the boundaries of morality,i.e. to make an explicit definition of the sphere for people's moral practice. To achieve this purpose,it is necessary to stick to the scientific Marxist concept of moral criticism, make moral criticism scientific and based on the facts,enable the moral criticism to fully play its guiding role, and seek the establishment of the common interest mechanism in a society characterized by different interests and pursuits so as to lay a solid foundation for the reestablishment of moral order.

Abstract:Many previous studies in moral psychology have described people as moral believers, who treat morality as universal sacred beliefs and show moral outrage and social exclusion toward people with different opinions. At the same time, moral relativism tends to make people more tolerant but also makes them question their own beliefs and leads to more immoral behavior. We propose moral pragmatism as an alternative, which treats morality as a tool for solving specific problems, thus making morality situational instead of universal, practical instead of sacred, and tolerant instead of exclusive. Through four empirical studies, we demonstrate that when moral issues are presented as practical problems rather than abstract beliefs, people consider morality to be less universal, treat dissidents with more tolerance and less outrage, and do not perform more immoral behavior at the same time. These findings highlight moral pragmatism as a flexible and culturally sensitive moral approach, promoting diverse moral perspectives and constructive cross-cultural discourses.

Abstract:By discussing the relations of knowledge and morality, the author of this paper explores attempts to disclose possible errors made by modern Chinese scholars in exploring possible approaches to integrating traditional Confucianism with knowledge. According to the author, knowledge and morality are basically different in nature although there is no absolute distinction between them. Man shows his concerns about morality either by cognition or by practice. Each approach has its particular logic, and may develop along the lines of this logic by itself. While the integration of knowledge and morals may be a theoretical issue, their interaction and combination in the real sense only occurs in practice. The accusation that Confucianism “prioritizes morality over knowledge” is just as wrong as the accusation that scientists' pursuit of knowledge as “prioritizes knowledge over morality.” The integration of Confucianism with knowledge is mainly primarily a matter of practice rather than theory. Many modern researchers (particularly Neo-Confucians) seek an approach that integrates traditional Confucianism and the knowledge in Western intellectual traditions from the metaphysical and ontological perspectives. This is due to the fact that they fail to see the relationship between knowledge and morality, and wrongly accuse traditional Confucianism of prioritizing morality over knowledge. As a result, they fail to see the modern integration of Confucian moral traditions with knowledge as a process of self-cultivation and the individual's personal moral practice in maintaining or restructuring the values of the self in the face of the world of knowledge.

Abstract:Ancient west moral principles mainly found in mythology and are in the form of godly revelations. After the wise men began to take the revelations from the gods to the human society, moral knowledge no longer possesses the absoluteness of the other world. In order to save the city-states from moral degeneration, Socrates tried to return morality to rationality and put forward the famous proposition that knowledge is virtue. The issue of morality cannot break away from knowledge and cannot surpass the discussion between English empiricism and continental rationalism. English empiricists and their successors revealed the moral theories by means of analysis and description, while continental rationalists and Cambridge Platonists used the way of deduction and reasoning. After all, the moral conducts without knowledge scrutinizing are shallow and cannot constitute the so-called virtues distilled by emotional experience, daily practice and rationality. Due to the limitedness of the knowledge and rationality possessed by human beings, we experience our existence through seeking knowledge to approach the knowable world and it also constitutes a pursuit of utmost goodness.

Abstract:The Chinese people lay stress on intuition and the method of imaginative mind that is more irrational, while the thought popularized by political power is rational. The irrational factor in this rational thought had been growing daily in the process of introspection under the influence of Buddhism. Till the middle and later period of Ming Dynasty, when economy was developed, daily life of food and clothe were emphasized, and the social orientation was utilitarian, the threshold of ration was broken through. Geng Dingxiang attacked Li Zhi, and led a wholesome change in value, theory of human nature, ethics and aesthetics. The Chinese thought of humanity and aesthetics has completed a historical transition from the rational to the irrational.
