Abstract:The discovery of highly active 2,6-bis(imino)pyridyl iron and cobalt complexes provided a milestone of late-transition metal catalysts for ethylene oligomerization and polymerization with being currently investigated for the scale-up process. The crucial problems are remaining in the catalytic systems: the catalytic systems targeting ethylene polymerization produce more oligomers at elevated reaction temperatures, however, there is a recognizable amount of high-molecular-weight polyethylene remained in the modified catalytic system for the oligomerization process. Beyond the modification of bis(imino)pyridyl metal complexes, several alternative procatalysts' models have been developed in our group. This review highlighted the achievements in exploring new iron and cobalt complexes with tridentate NNN ligands as procatalysts for ethylene oligomerization and polymerization.

Abstract:Progress on developing chromium-, iron- and nickel-based catalysts for ethylene oligomerization during the last decade was reviewed. Chromium-based catalysts mainly included chromium complexes bearing tridentate ligands with ligating atoms of phosphorus, nitrogen and sulfur, and diphosphinoamine ligands. The former could be used to produce 1-hexene very selectively. The activity of catalyst with the ligand could reach 1.6 × 105 g/mole-hr. The latter could control selectivity to 1-hexene and 1-octene by varying substituents of ligands. Iron-based catalysts mainly included iron complexes of bis(imino) pyridine, pyridinylimine, and 2-imino-1,10-phenanthroline. The oligomers produced followed Schluz-Flory rules with higher selectivity to α-olefins. Bis(imino) pyridine iron complexes exhibited highest activity of 5 × 109 g/(mole-hr). Ligands of nickel-based catalysts mainly included natural ligands with nitrogen or phosphorus atoms and N,O- or P,O-coordinated anion ligands. α-Diimine nickel complexes were higher in catalytic activity, while most of other nickel complexes were not so active. Oligomers with short-chain could be obtained from them, but selectivity to α-olefins was not promising.

Abstract:Due to the greatly increasing demand of propene,the catalytic cracking of mixed C4 olefins or other less valuable feedstock appears to be very attractive for industry.Much effort has been made on developing new catalysts with excellent hydrothermal stability for the application at high temperatures with steam.Aluminosilicate molecular sieves are potential catalysts for their specific pore structure and acidity.Microporous zeolites(such as HY,HZSM-5,MCM-22,etc),mesoporous molecular sieves,and molecular sieves with microporous and mesoporous structure have been used for the cracking.This paper reviewed the research progress of olefin cracking on zeolite catalysts and the improvement of hydrothermal stability of the zeolites.The advances in zeolite modification and its influence on performance of catalytic cracking of olefins were summarized.It would be valuable for the development of effective and applicable catalysts for the cracking of less valuable hydrocarbon feedstock to propene.

Abstract:Catalytic cracking of hydrocarbons to light olefins is one of the most promising ways to replace the conventional steam cracking. Among numerous factors, the development of catalysts with good performances is the key of studies on catalytic cracking. The research advances in catalysts for catalytic cracking of hydrocarbons have been reviewed in this article. The catalysts are divided into three types, which are molecular sieve catalysts, metallic oxide catalysts and composite catalysts, respectively. The characteristics of the catalysts are compared and the trend of future research in the area of cracking catalysts is prospected.

Abstract:ZSM-5 zeolite is widely used in catalytic cracking of hydrocarbon, but the conventional ZSM-5 zeolite deactivates quickly due to its simple microporous and long diffusion pathway. Many studies have been done to overcome these disadvantages recently. In this review, four main approaches for enhancing the catalytic performance, namely synthesis of ZSM-5 zeolite with special morphology, hierarchical ZSM-5 zeolite, nano-sized ZSM-5 zeolite and optimization of acid properties, are discussed. ZSM-5 with special morphology such as hollow, composite and nanosheet structure can effectively increase the diffusion efficiency and accessibility of acid sites, giving high catalytic activity. The accessibility of acid sites and diffusion efficiency can also be enhanced by introducing additional mesopores or macropores. By decreasing the crystal size to nanoscale, the diffusion length can be shortened. The catalytic activity increases and the amount of carbon deposition decreases with the decrease of crystal size. By regulating the acid properties of ZSM-5 with element or compound modification, the overreaction of reactants and formation of carbon deposition could be suppressed, thus enhancing the catalytic activity and light alkene selectivity. Besides, some future needs and perspectives of ZSM-5 with excellent cracking activity are addressed for researchers' consideration.

Abstract:The acidity and porosity of zeolite catalysts are crucial parameters affecting the catalytic performance. In this work, alkali treatment and metal species loading were used to modify the porosity and acidity of ZSM-5 zeolite to prepare an efficient catalyst for the 1,2-dichloroethane cracking reaction. After optimization, the highly active catalyst Zn (1%) /ZSM-5-120 was obtained, and 78% conversion of EDC and 99% selectivity toward VCM could be achieved under the conditions of 300 °C and 3.0 h −1 (WHSV). A detailed investigation was conducted on the effects of acidity, texture properties and metal species loaded on ZSM-5 zeolite on the 1,2-dichloroethane cracking reaction.

Abstract:Propene is a key building block for the petrochemical industry whose demand is increasing strongly in recent years, even faster than that of ethene. The availability of propene is limited, and therefore, efforts to optimize its production are being pursued. On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the first FCC unit, we analyze some recent advances that have been achieved in the understanding and development of zeolites aiming to increase the production of light olefins as petrochemical building blocks by means of catalytic cracking. We discuss a selected group of emerging strategies in zeolite engineering that have great prospects for research and that we consider could impact the sector in the near future. These include advances in crystal engineering and hierarchization achieved through bottom-up and top-down approaches, composite materials, tuning of the location of active sites among the different crystallographic positions available, and, importantly, how to characterize these modifications and their impact on the catalysis. Finally, we survey what advances are actually being implanted into the current industrial practice and conclude with a reflection on the future of zeolite research to satisfy light olefin demand.

Abstract:The value‐added chemicals, monoxide, methane, ethylene, ethanol, ethane, etc., can be efficiently generated through the electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (eCO2RR) when equipped with suitable catalysts. Among them, ethylene is particularly important as a chemical feedstock for petrochemical manufacture. However, despite of its high Faradaic efficiency achievable at relatively low current densities, the substantial enhancement of ethylene selectivity and stability at industrial current densities poses a formidable challenge. To facilitate the industrial implementation of eCO2RR for ethylene production, it is imperative to identify key strategies and potential solutions through comprehending the recent advancements, remaining challenges, and future directions. Herein, the latest and innovative catalyst design strategies of eCO2RR to ethylene are summarized and discussed, starting with the properties of catalysts such as morphology, crystalline, oxidation state, defect, composition, and surface engineering. The review subsequently outlined the related important state‐of‐the‐art technologies that are essential in driving forward eCO2RR to ethylene into practical applications, such as CO2 capture, product separation and downstream reactions. Finally, a greenhouse model that integrates CO2 capture, conversion, storage and utilization was proposed to present an ideal perspective direction of eCO2RR to ethylene. Abstract:Polyolefins, the largest used commodity plastics in the world, find extensive application in many fields. However, most end up in landfills or incineration, leading to severe ecological crises, environmental pollution, and serious resource waste problems. As representatives on chemical upcycling of polyolefin plastics polyolefin waste to fuels and bulk/fine chemicals, polyolefin catalytic cracking and hydrocracking based on zeolite or metal/zeolite composite catalysts are considered the most effective paths due to their large capacity and strong adaptability to existing petrochemical equipment. After an overview of the reaction mechanisms of pyrolysis and catalytic cracking, this review aims to comprehensively discuss the influence of zeolite catalyst structure (acidity, pore structure, and morphology) on the catalytic activity, selectivity, and stability of polyolefin cracking, particularly emphasizing the importance for matching acidity and pore structure for target product formation. Subsequently, the structure-activity relationship between the metal site and zeolite's acid site in polyolefin hydrocracking is also discussed. In the end, emerging opportunities and challenges are proposed to promote a more efficient way for polyolefin chemical upcycling.

Abstract:Progress in use of ZSM-5 zeolite catalyst for conversion of methanol to propylene (MTP) was reviewed. Effects of crystalline size, ratio of silica to aluminum and modification methods namely phosphorus modification, alkaline earth metal modification and hydrothermal treatment on catalytic performance of ZSM-5 zeolites in MTP process were particularly summarized. Decreasing the crystalline size of ZSM-5 zeolites accelerates the diffusion of propylene and results in the increase of propylene yield. Proper ratio of silica to alumina and suitable modifications can effectively adjust surface acidity and pore size of ZSM-5 zeolites, therefore increase propylene yield and catalyst stability.

Abstract:As the demand for light olefins increases and the oil becomes heavier, higher requirements for catalytic activity, anticoking performance, and stability of catalyst have been brought forward. Basic catalyst has attracted much more attention in recent years due to its excellent performance in heavy oil utilization. This review highlights the research progress of catalytic cracking over basic catalyst for olefin production and heavy oil utilization. The catalytic mechanism along with attractive functions of basic catalyst are summarized. The optimized condition of operation is discussed as well. Several processes and technologies of catalytic cracking over basic catalyst are introduced to advance future development. This review attempts to benefit new researchers in this field by helping them to understand basic-catalyzed cracking characteristics for preparing a suitable catalyst.

Abstract:The state-of-the-art technologies in propylene enhanced production were reviewed and it was proposed that propylene production is still a petroleum dependent route with supplement of non-petroleum-based route. The hydrocarbon catalytic cracking process with shape selective zeolite as catalyst, at temperature between 400-600°C could obtain high propylene selectivity and from the view point of reaction mechanism, thermodynamics and experiment results it will be the main development trend of propylene production in field of petroleum-based route. Typical technology of hydrocarbon catalytic cracking processes is the integrated process of fluidized catalytic cracking and olefin catalytic cracking. Integrated process of methanol to propylene and olefin catalytic cracking in field of non-petroleum-based route will be another development trend of enhanced propylene production.

It focuses on key challenges, including catalyst deactivation due to coking and sintering, and discusses strategies to enhance catalyst performance, such as metal modification, tuning acidity, and designing hierarchical structures. Additionally, the review underscores the need for further research to optimize catalyst efficiency and boost olefin yields to meet the growing demands of the petrochemical industry. The catalytic cracking of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has attracted significant attention due to its importance in producing valuable feedstocks for the petrochemical industry. This review provides an overview of recent developments in zeolite‐based catalyst technology for converting LPG into light olefins. Catalytic cracking utilizes zeolite‐based catalysts usually associated with stability challenges, such as coking and sintering. The discussion focused on the underlying mechanisms that govern the catalytic cracking process and provided insights into the complex reaction pathways involved. A comprehensive analysis of various strategies employed for improving the effectiveness of zeolite catalysts has been discussed in this review. These strategies encompass using transition metals to modify catalyst properties, treatments involving phosphorous modification, alkaline earth metals, and alkali metals to alter the acidity level of the zeolites. The elucidation of the impact of silica‐to‐alumina ratios in zeolites and the development of hierarchical zeolite‐based catalysts through top‐down and bottom‐up methodologies are also discussed.

Abstract:The subject of extensive research, the low-temperature hydrocracking of polyethylene reveals the one-step synthesis of iso -alkanes via metal–acid bifunctional catalysis as an emerging strategy. Zeolites, with their superior compatibility with existing petrochemical infrastructure, serve as the acidic supports of choice. In this research, Ru nanoparticles were loaded onto ZSM-22, a zeolite known for its effective pore-mouth catalysis. Mechanical ball milling enhanced the pore-mouth area and the proximity of metal–acid sites, significantly boosting the hydrocracking reaction. The electronic properties of Ru were modified by selecting various Ru precursors and adjusting loading amounts. In-situ infrared studies showed the detachment of olefin intermediates from Ru sites as a critical factor in controlling hydrocracking and the terminal hydrogenolysis reactions. By combining catalyst characterization with reaction barrier calculations from density functional theory (DFT), it was found that oxidized Ru species aid in the release of olefin intermediates, facilitating Brønsted acid-driven β-scission and isomerization reactions. The study achieved a liquid-phase yield exceeding 82 wt% and an iso/n ratio surpassing 60% under low-energy consumption conditions using commercially available catalysts.

Abstract:Developing new technology for high efficiency conversion of petroleum is great significance to maintain sustainable development of petrochemical industry. Due to the growing demand for propylene and abundant supply of C4/C5 hydrocarbon, new cost effective process for production of propylene by conversion of streams containing C4/C5 olefins is required. A novel binderless hierarchical ZSM-5 catalyst and OCC process, which produces propylene by catalytic cracking of C4/C5 olefins, were developed by Sinopec through ten-years research and development. A commercial OCC unit with C4/C5 hydrocarbon capacity 60 kt/a started up in Puyang, China in 2009. Novel binder-less hierarchical ZSM-5 catalyst, as a new catalytic material, commercialized for the first time on the world. As a new route for on-purpose propylene production, OCC boosts the development of propylene production technology.

Abstract:Catalytic cracking process for production of propylene and ethylene from C4 olefins was investigated using crystalline silicate ZSM-5 molecular sieves as catalyst.Effect of temperature on reaction was especially focused on 1-butene as model compound of C4 olefins.Yield of propylene reached maxium at 580℃ and WHSV of 0.8h-1,and yield of ethylene rose linearly along with reaction temperature.Mechanism of propylene and ethylene production from C4 olefins by catalytic cracking was discussed.It was supposed that process for C4 olefins catalytic cracking involved three steps which were isomerization,polymerization and cracking.The polymerization intermediate possibly was C8 dimer.Difference between experimental and calculated data obtained by simulation according to mechanism network was not very obvious,especially in lower temperature range from 450℃ to 530℃.
