Abstract:High-dispersed surface anatase TiO2 modified CuOX-CeOX catalysts were prepared by wet impregnation method and their activities for selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH3 were investigated. The structure of TiO2 was found to influence the interactions between active components and support, which enhanced the NO adsorption and oxidation on catalyst surface under optimal conditions, thus activated the fast SCR reaction at a low temperature of 100°C.

Abstract:As an ideal substitute for the precious metals in the selective catalytic reduction of NO by CO, transition metal oxides perform very well. Thus, a series of CuO - Co3O4 symbiotic oxide porous nanosheet catalysts are prepared with a CTAB-assisted hydrothermal method. Cu5 with the ratio of Cu and Co is 5 : 10, has the best activity on the premise of maintaining the nanosheet structure. Reduction pretreatment of Cu5 with H2 is carried out, and the surface will be rapidly oxidized in air. In this period, Cu, CuO and Co3O4 were produced and coexisted on surface. Cu5-re-163 exhibits greatly higher N2 selectivity but a little inferior NO conversion. Further DFT calculation and characterizations proved that [N] free radicals exist during the reaction. The reaction on Cu5 and Cu-re-163 follow L-H and E-R mechanism respectively. [N] radicals on the latter are much easier to desorb, so that they are easy to combine with each other to form N2 rather than with NO to generate N2O, as the reason why Cu5-re-163 has better selectivity.

Abstract:CuOX-carbon nanotubes (CNTs), CuOX-activated carbon (AC) and CuOX-graphite catalysts were prepared by wet impregnation method and their De-NOX property were studied. SEM, EDX, TPD, TPR, AAS and XPS were employed to probe the effect of carbonaceous material supports and the nature of CuOX species appeared on catalyst surface. The existence of Cu+, good dispersion and strong acid sites were found to contribute to the low temperature catalytic activity of CuOX-CNTs with a NO removal efficiency of 67% at 250°C. Moreover, the regeneration of deactivated CuOX-CNTs catalyst caused by SO2 could be achieved by 300°C heating the catalyst in N2.

Abstract:The Cu2+–MCM-41 mesoporous materials with different loadings of copper species in the framework have been prepared by hydrothermal method and characterized by using various physico-chemical methods combined with the selective catalytic reduction of NO by NH3. It has been shown that the particle size of metallic copper formed after hydrogen reduction is much smaller than that in the supported catalysts prepared by impregnation method, and that the SCR activity of catalyst increases obviously with the increase of Cu content to 10 wt.% because of its higher dispersion of copper metal in the mesoporous catalyst even at higher Cu loading.

Abstract:A series of CuMnOx catalysts were prepared through the coprecipitation method to explore the effect of CO participation on the NH3- SCR reaction. The results showed that the CM-3 sample reached 100% conversion of CO and NO at a temperature lower than 175 °C; This is mainly because the correct proportion of copper and manganese helps to form solid solution and improve the coordination between metals. Moreover, the interaction principle of CO participating in the NH3-SCR reaction was thoroughly investigated through in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (in situ DRIFTS) and density functional theory (DFT). First, NH3 had varying adsorption modes at different temperatures; Second, NH3 and CO competed for the same active center, which significantly affected the catalytic reaction on the sample surface. Further, it was confirmed that the deposition of CO32- is the main reason for the decline in activity. Finally, the improvement in N2 selectivity in the reaction with CO participation was due to the produced N2O not being directly released but being further reduced to N2 through species such as CO.

Abstract:A series of MnCo/Cu-ZSM-5 (MnCo/Cu-Z) catalysts with different Mn/Co ratios for the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO with NH3 were prepared by the combination of ion exchange and impregnation. The physicochemical properties of the catalysts were investigated by N2 adsorption/desorption, X-ray diffraction (XRD), temperature-programmed reduction with hydrogen (H2-TPR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and temperature-programmed desorption of NOx (NOx-TPD) and NH3 (NH3-TPD), and the diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform (DRIFT) technique was employed for the detection of intermediate species and the study of the mechanism. The introduction of Mn and Co boosts the catalytic activity of the Cu-Z catalyst at a temperature below 200 °C, and the optimum activity was obtained over the Mn1Co2/Cu-Z catalyst. The enrichment of the high-valent metal ion on the catalyst surface and the improvement in the reducibility of metal oxide are responsible for the elevation in the catalytic activity of MnCo/Cu-Z. The bridged and bidentate modes are the prevailing nitrate species on the Cu-Z and MnCo/Z catalysts, respectively, and both of them were detected over the MnCo/Cu-Z catalyst. Furthermore, the DRIFT spectroscopy (DRIFTS) results indicate that, at 150 °C, the bridged nitrate can react with the adsorbed ammonia species, but the bidentate nitrate fails to do. The SCR reaction over the Cu-Z catalyst follows the Eley–Rideal and Langmuir–Hinshelwood mechanisms simultaneously at 150 °C, whereas an overwhelming dominance of the Eley–Rideal mechanism is identified for the MnCo/Z catalyst. Abstract:CuO/SiO2 catalysts with a vast difference in copper dispersion were prepared by impregnation (denoted as CuSi-IM) and ammonia-evaporation (denoted as CuSi-AE) methods and tested for NO reduction by CO. Despite the inferior dispersion of copper species in the CuSi-IM catalysts, they exhibited significantly higher NO conversion efficiency, with more than one order of activity enhancement achieved in comparison with the CuSi-AE samples. Ex situ XRD, in situ DRIFTS, and CO-TPR characterization were carried out to study the nature of active copper species and their evolution under reaction conditions. A clear dispersiondependent reduction behavior (for CuSi-AE, step-wise reduction; for CuSi-IM, one step reduction) under a CO atmosphere was observed, and the generation of Cu-0 preferentially occurred at lower temperatures for the CuSi-IM samples, which accounted for the better performance in the NO + CO reaction. Lastly, NO-TPD and TPSR experiments were performed and the essential role of Cu-0 in promoting NO dissociation was proposed. The results of the present study would deepen our understanding on the reaction behaviors of copper catalysts in the NO + CO reaction.
Peanut-Shaped Cu–Mn Nano-Hollow Spinel with Oxygen Vacancies as Catalysts for Low-Temperature NO Reduction by CO

Abstract:Manganese–copper spinel is a kind of efficient catalyst for NO reduction by CO; however, its unsatisfactory low-temperature catalytic performance and poor N2 selectivity limit its application. Here, peanut-shaped Cu0.75Mn2.25O4 nano-hollow spinel (Cu0.75Mn2.25O4-NH) was prepared by a one-pot solvothermal method and applied in NO reduction by CO. The structure and physicochemical properties of catalysts were researched by comprehensive characterizations. Compared with Cu0.75Mn2.25O4 nanoparticles (Cu0.75Mn2.25O4-NP), Cu0.75Mn2.25O4-NH displayed excellent low-temperature catalytic performance, achieving 90% NO conversion at 200 °C, and possessed a lower apparent activation energy (36.4 kJ·mol–1). Importantly, the unique nanostructure with more exposed active sites enhanced the redox properties and oxygen mobility of the Cu0.75Mn2.25O4-NH catalyst. In addition, a synergistic effect between different metal ions in the Cu0.75Mn2.25O4-NH catalyst promoted the formation of oxygen vacancies and more low-oxidation-state species, which were conducive to the N–O bond scission at low temperatures. Combining the in situ DRIFTS results and DFT calculations, the dispersed species of Cu y+-O-Mn x+ could be reduced to the main reactive species of Cu(y–1)+-□-Mn(x–1)+. Moreover, the formation of oxygen vacancies optimized NO adsorption and activation ability, which improved the catalytic performance in NO reduction by CO.

Subnanometric Pt on Cu Nanoparticles Confined in Y‐zeolite: Highly‐efficient Catalysts for Selective Catalytic Reduction of NO x by CO

Abstract:CO selective catalytic reduction (CO‐SCR), a promising technology for simultaneous removal of harmful CO and NO in exhaust gases, has attracted much attention in recent years. Pt‐based catalysts have been demonstrated to be effective for this reaction. However, it remains a big challenge to achieve a high low‐temperature activity at a low Pt loading. Here we report a new catalyst consisting of subnanometric Pt on Cu nanoparticles confined in the NaOH‐modified Y‐zeolite (Pt‐Cu@M‐Y). This catalyst possesses much‐enhanced catalytic property in CO‐SCR at an extremely low Pt content of 0.04 wt% in the catalyst, achieving full NO conversion at 250 °C. The Pt‐Cu@M‐Y catalyst was synthesized using a simple impregnation method followed by a hydrogen reduction. Transmission electron microscopy study revealed that Pt‐Cu@M‐Y with subnanometric Pt on Cu nanoparticle of ~5 nm was highly dispersed in M‐Y. The superior catalytic property of Pt‐Cu@M‐Y is attributed to the synergistic catalysis of Pt and Cu, in which subnanometric Pt species contributes to the strong adsorption of NO, while the dissociation of NO and the migration of dissociated O atoms are significantly boosted on the newly generated interfaces between Cu nanoparticles and the formed surface CuO x species. This work develops an effective method for synthesizing bimetallic nanoparticles confined in zeolite and demonstrates their superior catalytic performance in the catalytic reduction of NO x by CO.

Abstract:Simultaneous removal of NOx and CO from steel sintering has attracted great attention because it is difficult to balance the catalyst reducibility and surface acidity merely using metal oxides or zeolite catalysts. In this study, a mixed CuMn-HZSM-5 catalyst was prepared via an impregnation method. The optimized sample exhibited excellent performance with 90% NO conversion and 100% CO conversion at 175 degrees C. The activity window of the catalyst was coincident with the actual demand of sintering flue gas control at 150-250 degrees C The active component CuMn suppressed the excessive Lewis acid sites on the zeolite support for NH3 adsorption, while the reducibility of the catalyst also decreased compared with that of pure CuMn metal oxides. This synergistic effect was beneficial for the reduction of NH3 nonselective oxidation with O-2. In addition, both the DFT and DRIFTS results revealed that NO conversion was improved by CO introduction at low temperature, since NO could adsorb on the CO-preadsorbed sites for the reduction to N-2 via the O atoms of Mn(3)c sites, i.e., adsorbed CO could also serve as a reductant to reduce NO to N-2, which provides another reaction pathway in SCR reactions. Moreover, the NO2 and N2O2 species were observed in the spectra as key intermediates to oxidize CO to CO2, which are also the promoters for CO control.

Abstract:A type of novel copper-based catalysts supported on MIL-125(Ti), a kind of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), noted as Cu-MIL-125(Ti), was synthesized for the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO with CO. The reactivity of Cu-MIL-125 catalysts for selective catalytic reduction of NO by CO (SCR-CO) was evaluated in a fixed bed reactor. A number of characterization techniques were used to explore the basic physical–chemical properties and the reaction mechanism. The results showed that the large specific surface area and micro-mesopores of the MIL-125 carrier promoted the high dispersion of Cu species, leading to the outstanding SCR-CO performance. Among the results, 90 % NO conversion and 92 % N 2 selectivity were proved for the 6.2Cu-MIL-125 catalyst at 325 °C in oxygen-rich environment. XRD results showed that the metal organic frame structure and TiO 2 structure coexisted in the catalysts, which was the major factor to influence the NO reduction efficiency. XPS characterization and H 2 -TPR reduction results showed that the catalytic performance of the catalyst was mainly determined by the path of Cu 2+ reduction to Cu + and then Cu + to Cu 0 . Lewis acid on the catalyst surface played an important role in the CO-SCR reaction. In situ DRIFTS study proved that NO was first adsorbed on the surface of the catalyst to form different nitrate, NCO and isocyanate species. Then the adsorbed NO and the intermediates reacted with gaseous CO, which is a typical interaction between adsorbed molecules and gas molecules. Oxygen vacancies on the catalyst surface was involved in the reaction of CO to CO 2 . The whole reaction follows the M–K mechanism and the E-R mechanism. A preliminary reaction pathway was proposed based on the in situ DRIFTS results.

Abstract:One kind of driving of Cu on α-Fe2O3 was successfully created for removing NO x . It brought excellent low-temperature performance, high N2 selectivity and strong water and sulfur resistance. The concrete process was that Cu2+ ions entered into the crystal lattice of Fe2O3, forming solid solution with Cu-O-Fe structure and further changed the property of Fe2O3. On the one hand, Cu2+ ions adjusted the electrophilicity of Fe3+ species, thereby facilitating the generation and adsorption of NO2, nitrate and nitrite species and increasing Lewis acid sites. The increase of NH3 and NO x adsorbed species on the catalyst surface conduced to excellent low-temperature NH3-SCR activity. On the other hand, the regulation of Cu brought abundant lattice defects to Fe2O3 which strengthened the redox ability and generated oxygen vacancy. It led to the growth of surface adsorbed oxygen, which was crucial for the “fast SCR” reaction. In-situ DRIFTS results revealed that the NH3 on Lewis acid sites preferred to react with weakly adsorbed NO2 through Langmuir-Hinshelwood (L-H) mechanism over the Fe-Cu composite oxide catalyst. Meanwhile, the NH3 on Lewis acid sites was also able to react with monodentate nitrates, bidentate nitrates and nitrites through L-H reaction mechanism. This work provided a new inspiration for the construction of green and efficient catalysts to remove NO x in the practical industrial applications.

Abstract:Manganese oxide modified γ-Al2O3 could promote the dispersion capacity of CuO on this support because an epitaxil Mn2O3 monolayer formed on the γ-Al2O3 surface which results in the tetrahedral vacant sites of Mn2O3 to be preferentially occupied by Cu2+. The catalytic activities of CuO/γ-Al2O3 for NO reduction by CO were improved by Mn2O3 modification because Cu+ formed in the Cu/Mn–Al catalysts.

Abstract:A series of copper- and manganese-containing ordered mesoporous carbons (OMCs) were synthesized for the low-temperature selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO with NH3. The results demonstrated that NO conversion can be greatly improved by the addition of Cu or Mn. In addition, Cu and Mn had a synergetic effect and the optimal catalytic performance was obtained over the bimetallic catalyst Cu5Mn5-OMC. N-2 sorption, small-angle X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used to confirm the ordered mesoporous structures. Wide-angle XRD results showed that in the bimetallic catalysts some Cu ions were substituted by Mn ions, resulting in lattice contraction by the formation of a solid solution. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) results indicated that the O-C=O groups and chemisorbed oxygen species increased with the addition of Cu or Mn. Temperature-programmed desorption of CO/CO2 and NH3 (CO/CO2-TPD and NH3-TPD) results verified that the acidity of the catalyst was enhanced by the addition of Cu and Mn and the bimetallic catalyst Cu5Mn5-OMC had the strongest acidity. Temperature-programmed reduction of H-2 (H-2-TPR) results showed that Cu5Mn5-OMC had the strongest oxidizing capacity. Based on the above analysis, a possible synergetic catalytic effect was proposed through the electron transfer between Cu and Mn ions.

Abstract:Fe-MCM-41, one kind of high-ordered mesoporous materials catalysts, with molar ratio of Fe/Si = 0.01-0.1, was synthesized by hydrothermal method from coal-series kaolin. Fe-MCM-41 catalysts were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, high resolution transmission electron microscopy, N2 adsorption-desorption, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and UV-vis spectroscopy. The results clearly indicated that: (1) all the samples exhibited typical hexagonal arrangement of mesoporous structure; (2) the incorporation of tiny amount of Fe3+ onto the surface and pore channel of MCM-41 mesoporous materials could efficiently promote the deNOx activity of these catalysts. Moreover, the Fe-MCM-41 mesoporous materials were evaluated in the selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH3. The results showed that Fe-MCM-41 catalyst with Fe/Si = 0.05 showed the highest catalytic activity at 350 °C, a gas hourly space velocity of 5000 h−1, n(NH3)/n(NO) = 1.1, and O2% = 2.5%.

Abstract:The selective catalytic reduction of NO by CO is a promising technology for the simultaneous removal of both NO and CO pollution. Hence, a series of CuMgFe composite metal oxides with flower-like morphology was prepared by co-precipitation method for SCR of NO by CO. CuMgFe oxide calcined at 500 °C (CuMgFe-500) exhibited excellent low temperature activity. NO conversion reaches 100% at 225 °C, and it exhibits superior anti-H2O/SO2 ability (250 °C). The excellent activity of CuMgFe-500 was associated with its abundance of surface oxygen vacancies and excellent redox performance. The reaction mechanism of CuMgFe-500 CO catalytic reduction of NO was investigated by in situ DRIFTS. The results show that monodentate nitrate and labile carbonate intermediate species are generated on the catalyst surface. Its reaction follows the E-R mechanism and the L-H mechanism. The introduction of K reduced the surface oxygen adsorption and redox properties of CuMgFe-500 catalyst, which were the main reason for the poor low-temperature activity of K-poisoned catalyst. In situ DRIFTS analysis showed that SO2 hardly inhibits NO adsorption, which were the main reason for the excellent sulfur resistance of CuMgFe-500. This work provides new insights into the development and design of low-temperature CO-SCR catalysts.

Abstract:The selective catalytic reduction of NO with CO (CO-SCR) is a promising strategy to reduce the emission of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and carbon monoxide (CO) from motor vehicle exhaust and industrial flue gases (from sintering, coking, and so on). As one of the transition metals, copper-based catalysts have been extensively studied for NO reduction with CO. At present, composite oxides (Cu–CeOx, Cu–MnOx, etc.,), supported Cu based catalysts (Cu/Ce-MnOx, Cu/Ce-FeOx, etc.,), nanomaterials (nano-hollow spinel, nanosheets, etc.,), and Cu-based catalysts derived from MOFs and LDHs exhibited the most superior performance with NO conversion generally reaching above 90% around 200 °C. In this study, some optimization strategies were proposed in designing catalysts with high catalytic activity, such as selecting supports with superior performance, using LDHs and MOFs precursors, optimizing morphology and crystal plane, metals doping, and reduction pretreatment. In the reaction pathway, NO dissociation is considered to be the key step for NO + CO reaction. Also, copper valence state, surface oxygen vacancies (SOVs), and surface synergistic oxygen vacancies (SSOVs) play a critical role in NO reduction with CO. Moreover, anti-inactivation measures in the presence of H2O, SO2, and O2 were proposed. Based on the above discussion, some suggestions were proposed for future research work that efforts should be made. Hopefully, valuable information can be provided in this review for realizing the industrial application of CO-SCR catalysts.

Abstract:Reducibility and characteristics of CuO/Sn0.8Ti0.2O2 catalysts were examined by using a microreactor-GC NO+CO reaction system, BET, TG-DTA, FTIR, XRD and H2-TPR techniques. CuO/Sn0.8Ti0.2O2 had high activity in NO+CO reaction, showing 93% NO conversion at 300 ℃ in air, and 100% NO conversion at 225 ℃ after H2 pretreatment. The pore size distribution of Sn0.8Ti0.2O2 was mainly as micro-pores and meso-pores (1~5 nm), and the specific surface area and total pore volume of Sn0.8Ti0.2O2 were 69 m2·g-1 and 0.15 cm3·g-1, respectively. As shown by XRD analysis, there was no CuO crystal diffraction peak at 9%CuO loading, but two CuO crystal diffraction peaks at 2θ 35.5° and 38.7° were present at 12% CuO loading. FTIR detected the adsorption of NO and CO on the surface of reduced 12%CuO/Sn0.8Ti0.2O2. The Cu2+ sites and support surface adsorbed NO, and the process of NO adsorption led to the formation of N2O and NO3-. In contrast, the Cu+?Cu0 sites and support surface adsorbed CO, and when the mixed gases of NO and CO were adsorbed by support surface, no NO3- was formed. H2-TPR showed four reduction peaks (α, β, γ and δ). The α, β and γ peaks were the reductions of CuO species, and the δ peak was the reduction of Sn0.8Ti0.2O2.

Abstract:TiZrO_4 mixed oxides were prepared by co-precipitation and then used as carrier.CuO/TiZrO_4 catalyst was prepared by impregnation for catalytic reduction of NO by CH_4 in the presence of excess oxygen.The effects of the CuO loading and the reaction temperature on NO conversion were studied.The results show that the catalytic activity was highest while the CuO loading was 20% and the conversion of NO was 65% when the reaction temperature was 200 ℃.
