Abstract:In order to measure the frequency of a sinusoidal signal in high precision,the article designs a digit frequency meter based on FPGA (field programmable gate array).Besides measuring frequency,the device can also measure the time interval of two square signals and the duty ratio of a pulse signal.With FPGA and MCU (micro control unit) as the kernel,the meter adopts the method called ‘Parallel Multi-Ways Counting Method’ to realize the high precise measurement.Specifically,signals would input FPGA after high frequency amplification module and high frequency comparing module.And then signals would be divided into multi-ways to decrease frequency by different times and be counted synchronously.Finally,MCU would select the mostaccurate result and get the final result after computing.After the test,the meter can measure the frequency of a sinusoidal signal from 1 Hz to 199 MHz and from 10 mVrms to 1 Vrms with the relative error not above 0.0001％;the meter can measure the time interval of two square signals from 50 mV to 1 V and from 100 Hz to 1 MHz with the relative error not above 1％;the meter can measure the duty ratio of a pulse signal from 50 mV to 1 V and from 1 Hz to 5 MHz with the relative error not above 1％.Therefore,the meter has thefeature of high precision,wide frequency range and wide amplitude.

Abstract:In order to improve the accuracy of spectrum analysis,it's better to sample the vibration signals in the way of full cycle and equal phase.So an FPGA-based control method to realize the sampling was proposed.The key phase multi-frequency signal was used as the trigger signal of A/D conversion.The key phase multi-frequency circuit was realized in the FPGA chip using inner logic cells,a module for predicting the period of rotor using linear interpolation algorithm was added to the circuit,to improve the circuit's accuracy.According to the result of research: the key phase multi-frequency circuit of this design could achieve the expected function,and it has the advantages of high integration and wide multi-frequency ranges and so on,which can be widely appllied to the field of sampling control of rotor vibration signal in the way of full cycle and equal phase.

Abstract:In this paper, in order to achieve the output signal processing of cavity beam position monitor (CBPM), we develop a digital intermediate frequency receiver architecture based signal processing system, which consists of radio frequency (RF) front end and high speed data acquisition board. The beam position resolution in the CBPM signal processing system is superior to 1 mu m. Two signal processing algorithms, fast Fourier transform (FFT) and digital down converter (DDC), are evaluated offline using MATLAB platform, and both can be used to achieve, the CW input signal, position resolutions of 0.31 mu m and 0.10 mu m at 16 dBm. The DDC algorithm for its good compatibility is downloaded into the FPGA to realize online measurement, reaching the position resolution of 0.49 mu m due to truncation error. The whole system works well and the performance meets design target.

Abstract:Many of the MEMS accelerators measure acceleration by measuring the change of difference capacitance.The circuit used in precision capacitance measurement has been designed recent years.This digital capacitance measurement system based on FPGA has high precision and stability,low sensitivity of parasitic capacitance and resistance and it can use digital output interface.The capacitance measurement range of the system is ±2 pF,the capacitance measurement resolution is 0.115 fF.Connected to a acceleration sensor of which sensitivity is 1.056 pF/g,the system's acceleration measurement resolution is 0.107 mg,and the dynamic range is 4.0×104.

Abstract:If the rotor vibration signals of the turbine are collected in the way of integer period,it would be helpful to improve the precision of spectrum analysis,so as to improve the level of condition monitoring for machinery.Based on a thorough research of the integer period acquisition technology,a design of data acquisition card based on FPGA(field programmable gate array) is proposed,the card is of small size and compact type,and has the ability to collect multi-channel signals in the way of integer period synchronously.The design uses FPGA to realize the integer period acquisition control algorithm,based on the key phase and multi-frequency method,and to control two pieces of high speed A/D conversion chips to collect multichannel signals synchronously in the way of integer period.The ping-pong operation way is used to store those A/D conversion data into RAM memory,and the PC104 bus agreement is used to communicate with the host machine.Test results show that,the data acquisition card can accurately collect multi-channel periodic signals synchronously in the way of integer period,and measure the frequency of the key phase signal,also it has the advantages as follows: small size,high level integration,large range of acquisition frequency and high accuracy of frequency measurement,etc.It can be wildly used in the field of rotor vibration signal’s acquisition.

Abstract:In this paper, a new capacitance-to-frequency converter using a charge-based capacitance measurement (CBCM) circuit is proposed for on-chip capacitance measurement and calibration. As compared to conventional capacitor measurement circuits, the proposed technique is able to represent the capacitance in term of the frequency so that the variations can be easily handled in measurement or calibration circuits. Due to its simplicity, the proposed technique is able to achieve high accuracy and flexibility with small silicon area. Designed using standard 180 nm CMOS technology, the core circuit occupies less than 50 μm × 50 μm while consuming less than 60 μW at an input frequency of 10 MHz. Post-layout simulation shows that the circuit exhibits less than 3 % measurement errors for fF to pF capacitances while the functionality has been significantly improved.

Abstract:In this paper, a new on-chip signal generator for charge-based capacitance measurement (CBCM) circuit is proposed. As compared to conventional circuits that use two input off-chip clock signals or on-chip delay cells, the proposed circuit uses an I/Q splitter and an AND function to obtain 1/2 and 1/8 duty cycle signals, hence reduces the potential mismatch between these two clock signals. The proposed circuit makes it possible to use higher input frequency in measurement. As a result, smaller capacitance can be measured using the same measurement facilities without the loss of accuracy. Implemented in a standard 180 nm CMOS process, the proposed signal generator only occupies 40 μm × 18 μm while consuming less than 60 μW at an input frequency of 100 MHz. Simulation and measurement results suggest that the CBCM measuring circuits with proposed signal generator achieves the same accuracy as compared to conventional circuits while the requirement of measurement facilities can be considerably relaxed.
Design Of A Multi-Path Synchronous Frequency Meter With High Accuracy

Abstract:In the design of inertial measurement units (IMU) systems, especially in the design of redundant IMU systems, multi-path output signals are unavoidable. Usually, DSP or counter chip 82C54 is applied to deal with this problem when the number of path is not big. But when a number of paths exist, the methods above arc not competent, and real-time performance can not meet the requirements. On the other hand, FPGA can overcome these faults. Based on the need of measuring redundant IMU systems, a 14-path synchronous frequency meter was designed. In which, a gate signal used to control the process of the counter was designed; the Cyclone chip was used as the core chip of FPGA; the read, write and control of choosing paths were controlled by PC104. The software was implemented by C code with concept of modular programming. At last, the experiments were carried out with a FPGA exploiting board. The results proved that the designed frequency meter can meet the requirements of synchronous measurement of IMU systems.

Abstract:An algorithm of channel estimation and equalization for CMMB system is proposed,in which two interpolation methods are employed in the time domain based on the condition choosable method to improve its performance.The simulation results and hardware architecture,as well as synthesis results of VLSI implementation are given here.The FPGA verification results show that it can overcome more than 400 Hz of Doppler frequency shift.In the case of 200 Hz of Doppler frequency shift and 15 dB SNR,the BER for TU-6 channel is 0.4% (BPSK modulation) and 1% (QPSK modulation) respectively.The whole chip area is about 3.87 mm~2 (in SMIC 0.13 μm library).

Abstract:A new coarse-fine counter time-to-digital converter (TDC) architecture and its implementation techniques for high-precision time-interval measurement are presented. Multicoarse counters and one fine counter are combined in our TDC architecture. The calibration circuit employs a START and STOP calibration signal generator and a gain calibration circuit. Arbitrarily small time intervals can be measured by distributing the START and STOP signals on different channels. In the implementation process, the high-precision external clock produced by a Silicon Si5338 EVB board and the on-chip high-precision clock are combined to calibrate the TDC output data in real-time. The TDC is implemented on a specially designed field-programmable gate array (FPGA) board with a low-cost Xilinx Artix-7 35T FPGA. The measured least significant bit (LSB) is 17.9 ps and the calculated peak-to-peak differential nonlinearity (DNL) and integral nonlinearity (INL) values are 1.006 and 0.920 LSB. The root-mean-square (rms) resolution is lower than 20 ps in continuous measurement.

Abstract:On the basis of equal-accuracy frequency measurement principle, this paper takes AT89S52 microcontroller as core and designs a high-accuracy multi-function dual-path frequency meter which can measure the frequency of two circuits of signal with a range of frequency of 1Hz-10MHz at the same time, and be equipped with storage and query function as well provide two circuits (1K and 1M) of square wave signal source. This paper adopts modular design: the hardware module consists of control module, amplification and shaping module, display module, storage module, and standard square wave signal source module, etc., while the software module consists of frequency range judgment, frequency measurement, and display of frequency value. The experiment shows that this instrument has low cost, high accuracy, and strong function, with good application prospect.

Abstract:New algorithm in transit-time ultrasonic flow meter has been developed for high-speed and precise requirements in semiconductor industries. Differential correlation method is used for transit-time difference calculation, and linear interpolation is applied to enhance the accuracy and precision. Single transit-times are also detected for sound speed correction. This algorithm which was proved with good stability and precision in this paper was done in a single chip of FPGA, and its performances were verified by simulations and experiments.

Abstract:This paper presents a high-precision component-type vertical pendulum tiltmeter based on an FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) that improves the utility and reliability of geophysical field tilt observation instruments. The system is designed for rapid deployment and offers flexible and efficient adaptability. It comprises a pendulum body, a triangular platform, a locking motor and sealing cover, a ratiometric measurement bridge, a high-speed ADC, and an FPGA embedded system. The pendulum body is a plumb-bob-type single-suspension wire vertical pendulum capable of measuring ground tilt in two orthogonal directions simultaneously. It is installed on a triangular platform, sealed as a whole, and equipped with a locking motor to withstand a free-fall impact of 2 m. The system utilizes a differential capacitance ratio bridge in the measurement circuit, replacing analog circuits with high-speed AD sampling and FPGA digital signal processing technology. This approach reduces hardware expenses and interferences from active devices. The system also features online compilation functionality for flexible measurement parameter settings, high reliability, ease of use, and rapid deployment without the need for professional technical personnel. The proposed tiltmeter holds significant importance for further research in geophysics.

Abstract:In applications such as resonance sensor and Doppler frequency shift measurement,relative values are more useful.So it is practical to explore precise measurement of frequency change.Based on circle map dynamics and Integrate-and-Fire Model(ab.IFM),a type of measurement circuit is proposed.By adjusting the value of circuit parameters and the amplitude of threshold signal,the circuit may work in chaotic state and the output is sensitive to the frequency.The corresponding relation between output symbolic sequence and frequency is established,so the weak divergence of frequency may cause changes of symbolic sequence.Simulation and circuit experiment show that there are advantages in achieving higher precision.

Review of Scientific Instruments

Abstract:Microelectromechanical system resonant sensors are widely used in high precision applications. Frequency measurement plays an important role in such frequency readout sensors. This paper proposed an improved modified frequency measurement method based on the multi-phase clock (MPC), which can effectively improve the measurement accuracy but does not reduce the output rate. Innovative claims include (1) building a model of measurement error for MPC in which the probability of triggering error under different conditions is calculated, (2) improving the accuracy of the MPC measurement by phase reverse, and (3) proposing an algorithm to eliminate jitters of the measured signal. We compared the measurement results of this optimized MPC realized by the field programmable gate array (FPGA) device with those of the conventional MPC, spectral measurement, and equal precision measurement implemented with the National Instruments acquisition equipment PXI-4461 and USB-6366, respectively. The results show that the bias instability of the adopted method is ∼10 µHz obtained by Allan variance analysis, which is better than that of the other three methods. It can meet the accuracy requirements for the resonant frequency measurement of state-of-the-art resonant accelerometers. In addition, an algorithm running in FPGA is proposed to eliminate jitters caused by the noise of the measured signal for enhancing the robust of optimized MPC. The results demonstrate that the optimized MPC has features of high accuracy and anti-interference capability and can be easily transferred to the application specific integrated circuit in the future due to its full digital circuit version.

Abstract:Based on analysing and studying the principles of digital frequency characteristics tester,the scheme of realizing the phase detection function with equal accuracy is put forward by taking DDS AD9958 chip as the signal source and phase detection counting pulse.The hardware is composed of DDS AD9958 chip,peripheral circuits and phase detection circuit.The equal accuracy of phase measurement is achieved by setting the channel register and control word register of AD9958 chip with the software to allow the chip to output two sweep signals whose frequency relationship is that one is 360 times to another.The phase detection with equal accuracy is realized based on chips controlled by the software.The precision errors caused by the frequency change are reduced.The method is simple and convenient.

Abstract:We propose the difference weak measurement scheme, and illustrate its advantages for measuring small longitude phase-shift in high precision. Compared to the standard interferometry and standard weak measurement schemes, the proposed scheme has much higher resolution in present of various practical imperfections, such as alignment error and light intensity variation error. Moreover, we highlight the advantage of utilizing complex weak value, where its imaginary part can reduce the harmful effect induced by channel decoherence. Finally, we propose closed-loop scenario to solve the narrow dynamic range problem obsessing the current weak measurement schemes. Difference weak measurement scheme simultaneously fulfills the requirements of high precision, wide dynamic range and strong robustness, which makes it a powerfully practical tool for phase-shift measurement and other metrological tasks.

Abstract:Frequency-modulated (FM) signals are widely used in sensing, measurement, and signal detection due to their strong anti-interference and easy transmission characteristics. Although the high-precision measurement methods for static signals are quite complete, the high-precision measurement methods for dynamic FM signals still need to be studied, and the measurement accuracy in the high-sampling system still has room for improvement. Traditionally, the equal-precision measurement method is widely applied in most scenarios. However, its accuracy is limited by the quantization error of ±1 word and the sampling gate time, making it difficult to improve the frequency measurement accuracy while ensuring a high sampling rate at the same time. In this paper, a high-precision feedback frequency measurement system with the capability to eliminate the quantization error of ±1 word is proposed. The proposed system consists of two stages, the rough measurement stage based on the equal-precision measurement method and the precise measurement stage based on the negative feedback tracking architecture using the phase-frequency detector (PFD) and direct digital synthesizer (DDS). The effectiveness and feasibility of the system are verified by both simulation and experiment. At the sampling rate of 2 kHz, the frequency measurement accuracy is improved by more than 30 dB.

Abstract:A new method has proposed for implementing phase to sinusoid amplitude conversion for 32 bits direct digital frequency synthesis (DDFS). It based on non-uniform piecewise linear approximation with one bit error correction. The main idea is partition the angle in the interval (0, π/2 ) into 64 non-uniform segments. Using linear function substitute approximates the sine function in every segment. The segments' slope value and start point value need store (total 1408 Bits). Other sine value can calculate by an 11×7 multiplier and an 11 bits adder. Added one bit error implementing by combination logic into the 11 bits adder improve the SFDR of the DDFS. The RTL level simulation results show that the SFDR is 91.2dBc after correction without phase truncated when the output sine amplitude is 11 bit.
