Abstract:A series of epoxide compounds catalyzed by TMSCl are synthesized by Darzens condensation reaction of aldehydes and α-bromo ketones in the presence of Mg and ethanol.The structure of the products are characterized by IR,1HNMR and 13CNMR.The reaction has the advantage of simple working-up procedure,mild reaction conditions,excellent yields and meets the requirements of green chemistry.

Phosphorus Sulfur and Silicon and the Related Elements

Abstract:A convenient and efficient synthesis of 2-substituted benzo[b]thiophenes is described. This one-step reaction of alkylthiobenzaldehyde and activated electrophiles proceeded smoothly in toluene at 120 degrees C with magnesium oxide as a catalyst. The target 2-substituted benzo[b]thiophenes are obtained in moderate yields and the side reaction is inhibited via azeotropic distillation. According to the experiments, a plausible mechanism is presented.

Abstract:In the presence of triethyl amine, the reaction of 2,4-disubstituted-2,3-dihydro- 1,5-benzothiazepine with chloro and dichloroacetyl chlorides produced not only the expected beta -lactam derivative of the benzothiazepine, but also the ring opening product. Different results were obtained when the substituent at 2-position of the bexuothiazepine varied from methyl to aryl, and the substituent on the chloroacetyl chloride varied from H to Cl, or when carrying out the reaction at different temperatures. The structures of the obtained products and the reaction mechanism are discussed.

Abstract:Solid base,KOH/Al_2O_3,was applied as a catalyst in a condensation reaction,and showed advantages over liquid bases.It avoided polluting environment and eroding equipments in using liquid base.In the synthesis of benzalacetone,the yield was above 88% after 3 h.The optimal reaction con- ditions were established:n(benzaldehyde):n(acetone)=1:4,the amount of catalyst is 2g,the best loadings of KOH in the catalyst is 12 mmol/g,reaction temperature is 40-45℃ and reaction time is 3 h.

Abstract:The acetalization and ketalization of various aldehydes and ketones with catechol using HAIMCM-41 zeolite as catalyst were studied. Results showed that HAIMCM-41 was an efficient catalyst for the acetalization and ketalization with high conversion and selectivity in mild conditions. The best reaction condition is that molar ratio of catechol to aldehydes or ketones was 1:1.4, catalyst amount was 3.5 g/mol catechol, reaction time was 4 h, n(SiO2)(Al2O3) = 15. Under this condition, conversion was over 85.6% and selectivity was over 99.4%.

Effect of reaction time,mole ratio of reactants and amount of catalyst on the yield of acetals (ketals) were considered. Abstract:A two-component activation system that combines metal catalysis (AgOTf) and the employment of catalytic amount of organocatalyst (PPh3) has been successfully employed in the three-component reaction of 2-alkynylbenzaldehyde, amine, and α,β-unsaturated ketone. This reaction proceeds smoothly in THF under mild conditions leading to the functionalized 1,2-dihydroisoquinolines in moderate to good yields.

Abstract:Oxidation of 2,3,6-trimethylphenol to 2,3,5-trimethyl-1,4-benzoquinone was studied with CuCl2-FeCl3 mixture solutions as catalysts andn-hexanol as solvent. The CuCl2-FeCl3catalytic reaction network was proposed by studying the formation of a by-product 2,2',3,3',5,5'-hexamethyl-4,4'-dihydroxybiphenyl (IP) and an intermediate product 4-chloro-2,3,6-trimethylphenol(ClTMP). The results show that 2,2',3,3',5,5'-hexamethyl-4,4'-dihydroxybiphenyl (IP) as a byproduct is mainly formed in the initial stage of the reaction. Cl- is able to inhibit the side reaction by promoting the formation of 4-chloro-2,3,6-trimethylphenol (ClTMP). When using a 7.57%(mol) CuCl2 and 3.78%(mol) FeCl3 solution used as catalyst, the yield of the desired product 2,3,5-trimethyl-1,4-benzoquinone(TMQ) is 80.66% under reaction temperature of 358.15 K for 8 h.

Abstract:Benzaldehyde is one of the industrially most useful feedstocks, and its transformation to high-value chemicals is very attractive. Different transformations of benzaldehyde, such as acetalization, pinacol coupling, and hydrogenation, have been achieved herein by adjusting pH, light source, and selection of a catalyst. Consequently, the corresponding products have been obtained with excellent yields (e.g. 92% yield for acetalization, 96% yield for pinacol coupling, and 85% yield for hydrogenation). The mechanisms behind each transformation were studied, and it revealed that pinacol coupling reaction was achieved through a photochemical process under 365 nm irradiation at pH 12, where the introduction of the TiO2 (P25) catalyst would completely shift the selectivity toward benzyl alcohol through a photocatalytic pathway and to benzaldehyde dimethyl acetal via low-temperature thermal catalysis. Abstract:A novel coupling reaction of diaryl methanols with ketones or aldehydes has been developed under the catalysis of AlCl3. Various ketones and aldehydes could couple with 9H-xanthen-9-ol smoothly, affording coupling products in 48% -88% yields. A plausible mechanism using AlCl3 to activate both diaryl methanol and ketone or aldehyde is proposed.

Abstract:A photoinduced three‐component reaction of thianthrenium salts, DABCO·(SO2)2, and benzyl ether substituted alkenes is developed, affording δ‐hydroxylsulfones with good functional group tolerance. This transformation proceeds through an anti‐Markovnikov hydrosulfonylation of alkenes under a mild reaction condition. Mechanism studies indicates that this reaction undergoes a radical pathway involving sulfur dioxide insertion and 1,5‐hydrogen transfer processes.
