Abstract:A dimeric salen ligand derived from L-tartaric acid was synthesized through linking two salen units with 1,6-dibromohexane. The corresponding Ti complex was proved to be an efficient catalyst for asymmetric addition of trimethylsilyl cyanide to aldehydes, providing the corresponding optically active trimethylsilyl ether of cyanohydrins with moderate to good enantiomeric excesses and excellent yields under relatively low catalyst loading condition.

Abstract:The Biaryl-bridged Salen Ti complexes are a high active catalyst at substrate-to-catalyst ratios as high as 1 000:1 in the reaction of asymmetric addition of trimethylsilyl cyanide to aldehydes,and the optimal catalyst 4 derived from(R,R)-1,2-diaminocyclohexane and 3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde produces trimethylsilyl ethers of cyanohydrins with up to 87% enantiomeric excess at ambient temperature.

Abstract:We report a cobalt-catalyzed desymmetrizing isomerization of exo-cyclic alkenes to generate chiral 1-methylcyclohexene derivatives with good yields and enantioselectivities. A novel chiral thiazolinyl iminoquinoline ligand and its cobalt complex were designed and synthesized to control the establishment of tertiary or quaternary carbon centers at a remote position. This protocol is operationally simple, and a model for the stereochemical outcome has been proposed.

Abstract:A regio-, diastereo- and enantioselective 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction between nitrones and electron-deficient alkenes has been developed employing C 1 -symmetrical Ti(OTos) 2 - and TiCl 2 -TADDOLate as catalysts. In the presence of powdered 4 Å molecular sieves and 100 mol% of Ti(OTos) 2 -TADDOLate as the catalyst, the nitrones smoothly react with alkenes at room temperature to give isoxazolidines in high conversion, giving the trans-diastereomer of the isoxazolidines with de's up to >90% and ee up to 58%. Furthermore, C 1 -symmetrical TiCl 2 -TADDOLate has a better chiral induction, giving the trans-diastereomer of the isoxazolidines with high enantioselectivity up to 70% ee. Abstract:An efficient approach to prepare trifluoromethyl-α-carbolines and ester group-substituted α-carbolines via the tandem cyclization reaction of 2-(2-aminophenyl)acetonitriles and trifluoromethyl 1,3-diones or β,γ-unsaturated α-ketoesters was reported. The transformation proceeded smoothly in the presence of catalytic environmental-benign iron salts, which are used to prepare the desired products in moderate to good yields.

Abstract:Traditional alkyne carbotrifluoromethylation protocols lead to the production of trifluoromethylated alkenes, while new reaction modes remain to be explored. Herein, a visible light induced reductive alkyltrifluoromethylation of ynones with the Langlois reagent is developed, providing a direct and diastereoselective access to highly functionalized trifluoromethylated cyclopentanones at room temperature. Mechanistic studies indicate a radical cascade involving the regioselective trifluoromethylation of C-C triple bonds, 1,5-HAT, 5-endo-trig closure, single electron transfer reduction, and protonation.

Abstract:A rhodium(I)-catalyzed highly enantioselective ring-opening and isomerization of cyclobutanols has been developed. Abstract:In this research, a metal-free diastereoselective formal 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of N-2,2,2-trifluoroethylisatin ketimines and cyclopentene-1,3-diones which can efficiently lead to the desymmetrization of cyclopentene-1,3-diones is developed. With the developed protocol, a series of tetracyclic spirooxindoles containing pyrrolidine and cyclopentane subunits can be smoothly obtained with good results (up to 99% yield and 91:9 dr). Furthermore, the methodology can be extended to trifluoromethyl-substituted iminomalonate, and the corresponding formal [3+2] cycloaddition reaction affords bicyclic heterocycles containing fused pyrrolidine and cyclopentane moieties in moderate yields with >20:1 dr. The synthetic potential of the methodology is demonstrated by the scale-up experiment and by versatile transformations of the products.

Abstract:1,2-Dihydroxanthones (DHXs) are core structures of natural products and useful building blocks in organic synthesis. So far, they have been less studied. In this report, a mild, efficient and green method for the synthesis of 1,2-dihydroxanthones has been developed in one pot through Claisen condensation and O-cyclization under waste-induced relay catalysis with minimum organic solvents. The by-product (HMDS or NH3·H2O) of the first step turned out to be the promoter for the second step, which could efficiently proceed in aqueous media without the addition of other catalysts. The reactions using trifluoroethyl salicylates could be performed under mild conditions to ensure the generation of vulnerable DHXs in high yields. The substrate scope is very broad regardless of the substituent type and its position on the structure. Specifically, the versatility of DHXs was demonstrated by their conversion to xanthones and other complex structures.
