Then, we also show that Theorem I is not enough to support the claim in the above paper that the proportional-integral sliding mode control method is more robust than the linear quadratic regulator method when applying on the active suspension system with mismatched uncertainties. Abstract:This paper is the summary and enhancement of the previous studies on dynamic output feedback robust model predictive control (MPC) for the linear parameter varying model (described in a polytope) with additive bounded disturbance. When the state is measurable and there is no bounded disturbance, the robust MPC has been developed with several paradigms and seems becoming mature. For the output feedback case for the LPV model with bounded disturbance, we have published a series of works. Anyway, it lacks a unification of these publications. This paper summarizes the existing results and exposes the ideas in a unified framework. Indeed there is a long way to go for the output feedback case for the LPV model with bounded disturbance. This paper can pave the way for further research on output feedback MPC.

Abstract:An improved synthesis approach of the dynamic output feedback model predictive control, which has a near-optimal solution, for the polytopic uncertainty system with bounded disturbance, is given. This paper takes advantage of the method in (Automatica (2008) pp. 258-264) to re-handle the physical constraints. Hence, there are more scalar slack variables for optimization, so that the control performance can be improved. This represents a general formulation which includes a previous work as a special case. A numerical example is given to show the effectiveness of the controller.

Abstract:A feedback control law is derived analytically for a linear parameter varying (LPV) discrete-time system with bounded rates of parameter variations subject to input-saturated constraints in this paper. As the uncertain region of such a LPV system in the future changes corresponding to the parameters which can be predicted in the future stage due to the information on the parameters value, magnitude bounds and the variation rate bounds, the control law is presented in the paper by solving a min-max MPC problem based on a dynamic programming viewpoint. By exploiting the dynamic nature of the min-max optimal problem and showing the convexity of the dynamic cost-to-go, the intrinsic structure of the feedback control law has been obtained which is proved to be efficient for an LPV system with bounded rates of parameter variations by an example at last.

Abstract:This note addresses the feedback robust model predictive control (FRMPC) for a category of linear parameter varying (LPV) systems with bounded rates of parameter changes. Based on the bounded rates of parameter changes and the detected current system parameters, future model variations can be described by a sequence of polytopic families with the same number of vertices. Then a FRMPC algorithm is developed. Since both the future model variations and the corresponding sequence of feedback control laws are adopted, the FRMPC can achieve high control performance. By transferring main design work to offline design, an efficient FRMPC is also developed. The recursive feasibility and closed-loop stability of the FRMPCs are proved to be guaranteed.

Abstract:For the synthesis approaches of output feedback model predictive control for a system with both polytopic uncertainty and bounded disturbance, previous works are different in selecting the feedback laws, choosing the performance cost, specifying the stability and invariance conditions, and handling the physical constraints. This paper gives a comparative study on two of our previous works (Automatica (2008) pp. 258-264; Proc. CCC (2011) pp. 3340-3345). It shows that both works can be mutually improved and extended. The new approaches preserve the merits (i.e., lower computational burden and recursive feasibility) of both previous works, while the control performance may be improved. A numerical example is given to show the effectiveness of the proposed approaches.

Abstract:This note corrects two errors in our previous paper ( Li et al 2008 Smart Mater. Struct. 17 065036) in which the active vibration control of beams treated with active constrained layer damping (ACLD) was studied analytically. The equation of motion of the whole beam/ACLD system is deduced again using Hamilton's principle with the Rayleigh–Ritz method. Numerical results are recalculated and conclusions similar to those of Li et al ( 2008 Smart Mater. Struct. 17 065036) can also be drawn.
