Abstract:Recently, active constrained layer damping (ACLD) has been widely used as a new kind of smart materials, which combines the advantages of passive constrained layer damping and active control. The ACLD structure in present study consists of four layers, which are respectively the active constraining layer made of piezoelectric materials, the damping layer made of viscoelastic materials, the sensing layer made of piezoelectric materials and the host structure. Unlike the usual perfect-bonded ACLD structures, the objective ACLD structure has some defects. That is, delamination happens between two different layers. The main purpose of the present study is to find out the effect of delamination on dynamic characteristics and control efforts, The delaminated multilayered structure is divided into the delaminated regions and the perfect regions. And the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) is used to describe the displacement distribution for the perfect regions, while extra displacements and Heaviside step functions are added to the first-order shear displacement field for the delaminated regions. The extra displacements indicate slipping and separations on the delaminated interfaces. And the finite element method (FEM) is used to model the partially delaminated ACLD beam. To examine the delamination effects, comparisons are made on natural frequencies, modal damping ratios, frequency responses and time responses with open-loop control and closed-loop control between a perfect ACLD structure and a partially delaminated one, And several interesting conclusions are concluded.
