Abstract:Micro-reactor has drawn more and more attention in recent years, due to the features of process intensification of both mass and heat transfer, uniform flow field and easy scale-up. A two-dimensional micro-channel reactor model for millisecond steam reforming of methane (SRM) was established, and the process of SRM based on highly active rhodium catalysts in the micro-channel reactor was simulated to predict the influence of operating conditions and reactor structure designs. The results showed that a higher wall temperature, a lower space velocity and a larger amount of catalyst loading would benefit the conversion of methane. There existed a critical amount of catalyst loading for a specifically structured micro- channel, upon which the catalyst loading made limited impact on the conversion, e. g. , the thickness of catalyst coating above 50μm. The channel gap played a key role in the structure design of reactor, where a smaller gap (e. g. , <500μm) would lead to a higher conversion of methane under milliseconds contact time.
