Abstract:A water-soluble salen-Co(III) complex was studied as catalyst for hydration of terminal alkynes to methyl ketones in the presence of H2SO4 as a co-catalyst. The products were obtained with excellent yields using relatively low catalyst loadings and a simple protocol. Notably, the products were easily separated from the catalyst after reaction by extraction, and the catalyst could be recovered and reused with only a slight loss of activity.

Abstract:A simple and effective pinacol coupling of various aromatic aldehydes mediated by gallium in good yields has been carried out. The reaction is highly effective in water in the presence of KOH or HCl and was strongly affected by the steric environment surrounding the carbonyl group. Aliphatic aldehydes, ketones and aromatic ketones appear inert under the same reaction conditions.

Abstract:A three‐component allylic alkylation reaction of α‐diazo ketones, water and allyl carbonate under the cooperative catalysis of Rh2(OAc)4, Pd2(dba)3 and Brønster acid was disclosed. This method provids an expeditious access to α‐keto homoallylic alcohols in good to high yields. Controlled experiments support that the transformations proceed through cross‐interception of two active intermediates Pd‐allyl species and enol intermediates derived from oxonium ylides. Moreover, synthetic transformations of the generated products enable the creation of motifs enriched with dense functional groups, underscoring their potential as valuable building blocks.

Abstract:A novel mediation system, Zn-InCl3 (cat.)/NH4Cl was employed in the Barbier-type allylation. As a result, the allylation with allyl chloride in water took place smoothly under mild conditions. Abstract:A novel mediator (Sn/I-2) has been developed and employed in the allylation and crotylation of various aldehydes and ketones with allyl (crotyl) halide in water. With a catalytic amount of I-2 and less than stoichiometric amounts of Sn, allyl (crotyl) bromide reacts with carbonyl compounds to produce the corresponding alcohols in quantitative yield. Even the inert allyl chloride and crotyl chloride can react with aldehydes to give the corresponding alcohols. The diastereoselectivity and regioseletivity of the reaction have also been studied. Sn/I-2 mediated allylations of aldehydes with crotyl bromide produced dominant adducts with minor alpha-isomers while Sn/I-2 mediated allylations of aldehydes with crotyl chloride afforded dominant alpha-adducts with minor gamma-isomers.

Abstract:Copper was found to be able to promote the SnC12-mediated carbonyl allylation reactions in water,giving the corresponding homoallylic alcohol products in very high yields.Detailed studies showed that the reaction could be applied to a variety of carbonyl compounds including those with hydroxyl,amino and nitro groups.It was also found that this reaction showed good regioselectivities for some substrates.Furthermore,carefully controled experiments and in situ NMR measurements provided important insights into the mechanism of the newly developed reaction.

Abstract:β‐Alkynyl substituted γ,γ‐difluoroallyl‐boronates were prepared via defluorination under basic condition. Allylation reaction of aldehydes with gem‐difluoroallylboronates under metal‐free condition in water was developed. As the sole solvent, water dramatically improved the efficiency of the reaction, and afforded the desired products in 48–92% yields. The corresponding difluorinated alcohols were smoothly transformed into the 3,3‐difluoro‐4‐methylene‐3,4‐dihydro‐2H‐pyran derivatives in the presence of gold catalyst.

Abstract:A highly regioselective Cu(I)-catalyzed anti-carbometallation of secondary terminal propargylic alcohols with 1 degrees alkyl or aryl Grignard reagents affording 2-substituted allylic alcohols was developed. By using this method, optically active allylic alcohols can be prepared from the optically active propargylic alcohols without obvious loss of the enantiopurity. The cyclic organometallic intermediate formed may undergo an iodination or a Pd(0)-catalyzed coupling reaction to afford stereo-defined allylic alcohols.
