Abstract:A diterpenoid with a novel skeleton, taibaihenryiin C, along with four known compounds, odonicin, rabdosianin B, wikestroemioidin C and eupafolin were isolated from an ethanol extract of the leaves and new branches of Isodon henryi (Hemsl.) Kudo (Labiatae) and its structure was elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data and X-ray crystallography.

Abstract:Chemical investigation of the leaves and stems of Chloranthus henryi resulted in the isolation and characterization of the three new cadinane-type sesquiterpenes 1-3 and of the new eudesmane-type sesquiterpene 4, together with three known compounds. Among the new compounds, the two cadinanetype sesquiterpenes 1 and 2 possess an unusual aromatic ring B in their molecule. These structures were established on the basis of spectroscopic evidence. In addition, antitumor activities of the isolates were also evaluated.

Abstract:12,15-Epoxy-5alpha H,9beta H-labda-8(17),13-dien-19-oic acid (1) and 14-methoxy-15,16-dinor-5alpha H,9alpha H-labda-13(E),8(17)-dien-12-one (2), two new labdane-type diterpenes, and 1alpha-hydroxy-8,12-epoxyeudesma-4,7,11-triene-6,9-dione (3), one new eudesmane-type sesquiterpene, were isolated from Chloranthus henryi Hemsl, along with two known compounds, 8beta H-eudesma-4(14),7(11)-dien-12,8-olide (4) and 8beta-hydroxyeudesma-4(14),7(11)-dien-12,8-olide (5). Their structures were established by a combination of 1D- and 2D-NMR spectroscopic techniques. The new compounds 2, 3 and the known compound 4 exhibited antitumor activities against Hela and K562 human tumor cell lines.

Abstract:Two new dimeric lindenane-type sesquiterpenoids (1 and 2, named chlorasessilifols A and B, resp.), one new ent-podocarpane-type C17 norditerpenoid (3), and one new ent-torarane-type diterpenoid (4), along with seven known terpenoids, were isolated from the whole plant of Chloranthus sessilifolius. The new structures were established by means of spectroscopic methods and/or observed cotton effects in the circular dichroism spectra. Among the isolates, 3α,7β-dihydroxy-ent-abieta-8,11,13-triene (11) exhibited significant anti-neuroinflammatory activity by inhibiting the nitric oxide production in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated murine BV-2 microglial cells, with an IC50 value of 4.3 μM.

Abstract:Two diterpenoids and a few miscellaneous components (one phenethylpropanoid, one flavonoid, and one lignan) were isolated from the MeOH extract of the whole plant of the rare Chloranthaceae plant Chloranthus sessilifolius during a further phytochemical reinvestigation. Based on their spectroscopic data (i.e., IR, UV, 1D/2D NMR, ECD, and HR-ESIMS) and/or comparing with those reported physicochemical data in related literature, the structures were determined to be (3R,5S,6S,95,10S,135)-3,6,13-trihydroxy-ent-abieta-8(14)-en-7-one (1), 3 alpha,15-dihydroxy-13 alpha-methoxy-ent-abieta-8(14)-en-7-one (2), p-coumaroyl-beta-phenethyl amine (3), narigenin trimethyl ether (4), and (3R,4-R,3'R,4'R)-6,6'-dimethoxy-3,4,3',4'-tetrahydro-2H,2H'[3,3]-bichromenyl-4,4'-diol (5). Among them, compound 1 is new, while compounds 3 similar to 5 were isolated from the Chloranthus genus for the first time.

Abstract:Celahypodiol 1, an unusual 17-membered carbon diterpenoid with a novel skeleton, and a new triterpenoid 12-oleanene-3beta,6alpha-diol 2, together with four known compounds furreginol 3, suigol 4, 20(30)-lupene-3beta, 29-diol 5, and 20(29)-lupene-1beta,3beta-diol 6, were isolated from the stalks of Celastrus hypoleucus (Oliv.) Warb. Their structures were established by means of spectroscopic analysis, including 2D NMR. The new compounds exhibited anti-tumor activities against a panel of human tumor cell lines.

Abstract:Hupelactones A (1) and B (2), two new eudesmanolide-type enantiomers of the corresponding compounds, along with four mono- (3-6) and nine dimeric- (7-15) known sesquiterpenoids were isolated from the whole plant of Chloranthus henryi var. hupehensis (syn. C. henryi). The new structures including the absolute configurations were determined by comparison with previously reported enantiomers, extensive spectroscopic methods in combination with electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculations. All the isolates were evaluated for their inhibitory activities against the lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced nitric oxide (NO) production in murine BV-2 microglial cells. Among them, the dimeric lindenane sesquiterpenoids shizukaols F (8) and G (11) exhibited the most potent activities, with IC50 values of 2.65 and 4.60 mu M, respectively.

Abstract:A new eudesmanolide and seven sesquiterpene lactones with a new carbon skeleton were isolated from the aerial parts of Artemisia santolinifolia. Four of the new compounds were partially degraded. The biogenesis of these compounds is discussed. Furthermore, several glucopyranosides were present, three derived from phenolics, two from thujane, one from vomifoliol A and one from dimethylvinylcarbinol. The structures were elucidated by high field NMR techniques.
