Abstract:A 1080 nm single-polarization single frequency distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) fiber laser is fabricated by directly inscribing fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) in ytterbium-doped fiber using a femtosecond laser. The high reflectivity FBG with high birefringence is prepared by femtosecond laser overexposure, serving a polarizing element. The low reflectivity FBG is inscribed by scanning axially along the fiber to narrow the FBG bandwidth. This DBR fiber laser avoided the mode hopping as temperature variation and intracavity fusion loss. A single frequency laser with an output power greater than 11 mW, a linewidth of 32 kHz, and a polarization extinction ratio of 10 dB is achieved at a pump power of 517 mW. The influences of the cavity length and LR-FBG reflectivity on the linewidth and output power are further studied. This provides a reference for optimizing the performance of integrated single-frequency DBR fiber laser prepared by a femtosecond laser.

Abstract:The characteristics of distributed Bragg reflector(DBR) cavity are analyzed. A narrow-linewidth single-frequency ytterbium-doped fiber DBR laser is fabricated. The laser is pumped by a semiconductor laser operated at 977 nm. Its output power reaches 4 mW and the lasing linewidth is less than 8 MHz (instrument resolution limited) at free wavelength of 1052.5 nm. Up to 20.4 nm(1036.1-1056.5 nm) continuous tuning is demonstrated from this DBR fiber laser operating in single longitudinal mode using a simple beam bending tuning technique for axial extension and compression. Over the full tuning range, threshold pump power and slope efficiency vary with laser wavelength.

Abstract:A distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) laser with a specially designed, heavily Er3+-doped composite fiber of a length as short as 1.8 cm is demonstrated. The DBR laser, pumped by a 980 nm laser diode with power of up to 370 mW, generates single-frequency radiation at a wavelength of 1535 nm with a narrow instantaneous linewidth of <100 Hz and a high output power of 2 mW. The obtained Er3+-doped fiber laser parameters pave the way toward a broad range of practical applications from telecommunications and sensing to scientific research.

Abstract:We propose and demonstrate a novelsingle-frequency erbium-doped random distributed Bragg reflector fiber laser (RDBR-FL) constructed by a random fiber grating (RFG) and a high-reflection fiber Bragg grating (HR-FBG). Since it is not necessary to precisely control the axial position of the sub-gratings constituting the RFG, the inscription of long RFGs is easy and low-cost. The RFG manufactured by femtosecond laser point-by-point inscription technique has a length of up to 76 mm. The reflection spectrum of the RFG is designed to ensure the stable single-peak emission of the RDBR-FL under the HR-FBG spectral filtering. The bandwidth of the selected reflection peak of the RFG is only 13 pm, which ensures the single frequency operation of the RDBR-FL. The measured linewidth of the RDBR-FL is 3.9 kHz. Experimental measurement shows that the effective cavity length of the RDBR-FL is as long as 109 mm, which is consistent with the theoretical calculation.

Abstract:We present a distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) Yb-doped fiber laser based on a pair of type IA fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs). The high temperature resistant gratings are fabricated in high absorption hydrogen loaded Yb-doped silica fiber by use of a 244 nm argon laser and phase mask method. The DBR laser, with only 10 mm cavity length, exhibits high signal-noise ratio (SNR) of over 50 dB and can survive at 450°C in a long term with stable output power and central wavelength. Besides, the laser has a relatively low temperature sensitivity of 8.9 pm/°C, which contributes to cross-sensitization of stress and temperature.

Abstract:We investigated the frequency noise in the distributed Bragg reflector single-frequency fiber laser (DBR-SFFL) theoretically and experimentally. A complete theoretical analysis is demonstrated by considering the energy-transfer upconversion (ETU) process and establishing linkages between the frequency noise and the relative intensity noise (RIN) of the DBR-SFFL. The experimental results of the diverse DBR-SFFLs in different working conditions are in good agreement with the theoretical analyses. These investigations are beneficial to optimizing frequency noise property to promote the wide application of the DBR-SFFLs. The proposed results can be generally applicable to the short-linear-cavity SFFL with centimeters order of the cavity length.

Abstract:Highly coherent lasers with spectral hyperpurity can further advance the fields of science and engineering. Especially, a light source with controllable frequency domain parameters can be adapted to a variety of emerging application scenarios. Herein, we report on an implementation of a novel ultra-high spectral purity distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) all-fiber laser based on weak distributed feedback, and its spectrum can be modulated in a certain extent by precisely controlling the intensity of the distributed feedback signal. Eventually, an ultra-high spectral purity laser with a spectral signal-to-noise ratio of 64 dB, a side mode suppression ratio (SMSR) of 83 dB, an output Lorentz linewidth of 115 Hz and a relative intensity noise of less than -122 dB/Hz is successfully obtained under normal conditions. Also, the frequency noise limit of the fiber laser with weak distributed feedback in the high frequency white noise flat region is 4.8 Hz2/Hz, corresponding to a fundamental linewidth of ∼15.1 Hz. In particular, the SMSR and Lorentz linewidth of the laser can be continuously adjusted from 53 dB to 83 dB and 115 Hz to 8.2 kHz, respectively. In addition, we also investigated the effect of different pumping configurations on the performance of the DBR fiber laser. The proposed controllable mechanism of laser spectrum also provides a new perspective for extreme regulation of other laser parameters.

Abstract:Based on a 1.8-cm-long heavily Tm3+-doped germanate fiber and being in-band-pumped by a 1610 nm single-mode laser, a high-efficiency and high-power single-frequency distribute Bragg reflector (DBR) fiber laser emitting at 1950 nm is demonstrated. The DBR fiber laser has a maximum output power of ~617 mW and a slope efficiency for the absorbed pump power reaches to more than 42.2%. A stable single-longitudinal-mode laser output with a signal-to-noise ratio of greater than 63 dB is realized. The measured relative intensity-noise of the fiber laser reaches to around -150 dB/Hz at frequencies of over 8.4 MHz. It is beneficial to exploit the sub-watt and high-efficiency single-frequency laser from fiber oscillators directly, especially in the application of multiple paths coherent beam combination and optical medical technology.

Abstract:A high-power, high-efficiency single-frequency fiber laser at 1064 nm was demonstrated based on a distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) all-silica-fiber configuration. A single-frequency laser with an output power of 642 mW and slope efficiency of 66.4% with respect to absorbed pump power was achieved from a 1.2-cm-long commercially available Yb3+-doped silica fiber. To the best of our knowledge, this is the highest single-frequency laser power and efficiency obtained from the DBR all-silica fiber laser. The work presented here paves the way for the development of high-power, robust, and cost-effective single-frequency Yb3+-doped all-silica fiber lasers.

Abstract:We report on a high-power single-frequency mode-hop-free fiber distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) laser fabricated from Tm-doped photosensitive alumino-silicate fiber and in-band pumped by an Er/Yb fiber laser at 1565 nm. The fiber DBR laser yielded up to 580 mW of single-frequency single-ended output at 1943 nm for ~ 5 W of absorbed pump power. Further scaling of the DBR laser output power was achieved with the aid of a simple Tm-doped fiber amplifier stage spliced directly to the DBR fiber without the need of an optical isolator. The maximum output power from the DBR laser and fiber amplifier was 2.9 W for a combined absorbed pump power of 9 W. The merits of this DBR laser architecture compared to conventional DBR and distributed-feedback laser configurations are discussed.

Abstract:A compact low noise single frequency linearly polarized distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) fiber laser based on a 1.4-cm-long homemade Er3+/Yb3+ -codoped phosphate single mode glass fiber has been demonstrated. An over 50 mW stable single frequency linearly polarized fiber laser was achieved. The measured slope efficiency is more than 21.6%, and the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is higher than 65 dB and the laser linewidth is less than 2.0kHz. The laser RIN is measured to be less than −150 dB/Hz at the frequencies over 2.0MHz, and the obtained linear polarization extinction ratio (LPER) is more than 30 dB.

Abstract:We report a narrow linewidth and low threshold single-frequency distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) fiber laser at 1120 nm based on a short 1.5 cm long Nd-doped silica fiber which, to the best of our knowledge, is the first demonstration of a Nd-doped fiber-based single-frequency fiber laser with a wavelength greater than 1100 nm. A stable single-longitudinal-mode laser operation with a signal-to-noise ratio greater than 67 dB was verified by a scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer. The laser threshold is as low as 10 mW. The DBR fiber laser has a maximum output power of 15 mW and optical-to-optical efficiency for the launched pump power reaches more than 8%. The narrow linewidth of 71.5 kHz is obtained in such a single-frequency fiber laser (SFFL). Our result is expected to offer an exciting new opportunity to realize high-performance SFFLs above 1100 nm.

Abstract:We present experimental results on the lasing of a short distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) Raman fiber laser (RFL) with short cavity length. The high finesse laser cavity with an effective length of 17 cm was realized by direct inscription of two Bragg gratings into a short piece of highly nonlinear polarization maintaining Raman fiber. It is pumped by an Ytterbium fiber laser at 1100 nm with up to 8 W pump power. The Stokes wave at 1151 nm is generated within the DBR RFL with 700-mW output power and a narrow spectral full-width at half-maximum bandwidth of 60 pm. Due to the short cavity length, the number of oscillating longitudinal modes is strongly reduced to less than 24 modes. The short DBR RFL has a low lasing threshold of 4.1 W. Its spectral properties and temporal stability are investigated. Distinct longitudinal cavity modes could be observed within the radio-frequency intermode-beat spectrum detected with a fast photodiode. The measured mode separation of 607 MHz validates the short effective length of 17 cm.

Abstract:We demonstrated a high output power distributed-Bragg-reflector (DBR) laser integrated with semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) for the frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) light detection and ranging (LiDAR) system. In order to acquire higher output power, different from the conventional SG-DBR laser, the front mirror in this work is a section of uniform grating to get higher transmissivity. Therefore, the output power of the laser reaches 96 mW when the gain current and SOA current are 200 mA and 400 mA, respectively. Besides, we fabricated a spot size converter (SSC) at the laser output port to enhance the fiber coupling efficiency, which reached 64% coupled into the lensed fiber whose beam waist diameter is 2.5 μm. A tuning range of 2.8 nm with free spectral range (FSR) of 0.29 nm and narrow Lorentzian linewidth of 313 kHz is achieved. To realize distance and velocity measurement, we use the iterative learning pre-distortion method to linearize the frequency sweep, which is an important part of the FMCW LiDAR technology.

Abstract:Based mainly on the distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) short linear cavity with a 1.6-cm-long heavily Tm3+-doped germanate glass fiber and semiconductor saturable absorber mirror (SESAM), a compact passively Q-switched single-frequency fiber laser at around 1950 nm is demonstrated experimentally. By comparing pulse characters of Q-switched operations fulfilled via SESAMs with different parameters, a stable output pulse is optimized to deliver a maximum average power of 22.2 mW, a peak power of 0.67 W, and an optical signal-to-noise ratio over 61 dB. Moreover, the repetition rate of the output pulse can be tuned from 92 to 520 kHz with a narrowest pulse width of 64 ns. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time a 2.0 µm passively Q-switched single-frequency DBR Tm3+-doped fiber laser has been realized, and it shows great potential application in remote sensing, biomedical science, and nonlinear optics.

Abstract:A distributed feedback (DFB) fiber laser based on a 32-mm long pi-phase-shifted fiber Bragg grating inscribed using the femtosecond point-by-point technique in a single-mode erbium-doped optical fiber (CorActive EDF-L 1500) is demonstrated. The lasing power of the DFB laser reaches 0.7 mW at a wavelength of 1550 nm when pumped with a laser diode at a wavelength of 976 nm and power of 525 mW. The width of the lasing spectrum is 17 kHz. It is shown that the pi-phase-shifted fiber Bragg grating fs-inscribed in a non-PM fiber provides the selection of the single polarization mode of the DFB laser. DFB laser formation in a highly doped non-photosensitive optical fiber (CoreActive SCF-ER60-8/125-12) is also demonstrated.

Abstract:Quantum dots (QDs) laser has become an important way to solve micro-application problems in many fields. However, single wavelength distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) has many limitations in practical applications, such as signal transmission. How to realize multiwavelength DBR lasing output simply is a challenge. To achieve a stable multi-wavelength quantum dots laser in the near-infrared region, the perovskite CsPbI3 QDs laser with DBR structure is developed in this paper. A tetragonal crystal structure with complete bonding information and no defect is explained by X-ray diffractions (XRD) and Raman spectrum. The cross-section morphology of the DBR laser and the surface morphology of QDs is measured by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM), respectively. An elliptical light propagation field and a double wavelength laser radiation are obtained from the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulation. The output of the three wavelength lasers at 770 nm, 823 nm, and 873 nm is measured. The emission time of a DBR laser is about 2 h, and the average fluorescence quantum yield is 60%. The cavity length selection and energy level model are put in place to clearly see the working mechanism. All the results suggest that an effective and stable CsPbI3 quantum dots DBR laser is realized.
