Abstract:In this paper, we report the controlled synthesis of SrCO3 crystals by a simple hydrothermal method without any surfactants and templates. The as-prepared samples were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The effect of pH value, temperature, and reaction time on the formation of SrCO3 crystals was investigated. This novel route is proved to be simple and environment-friendly, which can be extended to the shape-controlled synthesis of other metal oxide nanocrystals.

Abstract:Long Bi2O3 nanowires have been prepared via the thioglyolic acid (HSCH2COOH, TGA) assisted hydrothermal method. The x-ray diffraction pattern shows that the Bi2O3 nanowires obtained are of orthorhombic phase. High resolution transmission electron microscopy identifies that the Bi2O3 nanowires are single crystalline in nature. Furthermore, we give a preliminary presentation of the mechanism for the TGA-assisted hydrothermal synthesis of Bi2O3 nanowires.

Abstract:The authors report the first preparation of high-density ultrafine green-emitting wool-like BaCO3 nanowires, having an average diameter of 18.5 nm, and an average crystallite size of 13.4 nm, by an electrospinning method with a subsequent two-step calcination approach. A possible vapor–solid interaction mechanism was proposed for the finest nanowires growth, where the reactive carbon dioxide vapors were generated during the static atmosphere ambient calcination and assisted oxidization nucleation at enhanced temperatures. Our work provides new insights into electrospun fiber diameter refinement via controlled calcination, and this simple post-electrospinning controlled strategy can be generally applied to other metal carbonate ultrafine NWs families.

Abstract:Large-scale aligned ZnO nanowires are grown uniformly on silicon substrates covered with polycrystalline ZnO films by carbothermal route, without employing any metal catalysts and vacuum system. The products collected from the different temperature zones were characterized using X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and photoluminescence spectroscopy. It was found the (001) oriented single crystal ZnO nanowires with different diameters could be fabricated. It is suggested that the ZnO films with smaller grain sizes may offer the nucleation centers for the formation of ZnO nanowires.

Abstract:Carbon tubules are used to assemble Co3C or Co particles from an agglomerate into a straight line. The walls of the carbon tubules are grown by the slow catalytic decomposition of a fluorocarbon at 375 degreesC over the Co3C or Co particles. The nanoparticles then merge via oriented attachment to form nanowires. Depending on the nanoparticle material, nanowires of up to 1 mum long can be formed. Using atomic resolution electron microscopy images, the formed nanowires are seen to be of the same material as the initial nanoparticles.

Abstract:The present invention relates to a Bi S Br nanowire preparation method. A simple colloidal crystal solution method is used, BiBr and bis (trimethyl silicon sulfide) are used as raw materials, oleylamine and oleic acid are used as surfactants, octadecene is used as a solvent, and metal ions (such as Al , Fe , Fe , Co , Co , Ni , etc.) are used to control morphology and phase of the nanowire. A reaction is conducted using a standard anhydrous and anaerobic operation device (Schlenk line) at a reaction temperature of 140-240 DEG C and a reaction time of 5-120 min. The semiconductor nanowire preparation method is simple and practicable, the reaction condition is mild, the operation cost is low, and the prepared nanowire is neat in morphology and uniform in size.

Abstract:Flower-like SrCO3 nanostructures, consisting of SrCO3 nanorods with about several hundred micrometres in length and several hundred nanometers in width, have been synthesized by a convenient hydrothermal process. X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern reveals that the flower-like SrCO3 nanostructures are of orthorhombic phase. Furthermore, selected area electron diffraction (SAED) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) illustrate that the SrCO3 nanorods are single crystalline in nature. Finally, the formation mechanism of the SrCO3 nanostructures has been preliminary presented.

Abstract:Crystalline boron oxide nanowires have been synthesized on silicon substrates by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process without the use of catalysts or templates. It is pointed out that the boron oxide nanowires are cubic and single crystalline, and the diameter of the nanowires is in the range of 20–80nm. Some of the nanowires branched, and the diameters of the branches and stems of the branched boron oxide nanowires are in the range of 20–80 and 100–200nm, respectively. The crystallinity, morphology, and structure features of the as-prepared boron oxide nanowires were investigated by field emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and selected area electron diffraction. Furthermore, Raman spectrum and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy of the nanowires were also investigated.

Abstract:Nanowire arrays of amorphous carbon-coated single-crystal SnO2 with a mean diameter of approximately 80 nm were synthesized by annealing the anodic alumina membrane filled with SnO2 sol. HRTEM and SAED revealed the crystallography of the single crystal and the in situ formed amorphous carbon tubes. When they were used as anodes in lithium ion batteries, the cycling performance was greatly improved.

Abstract:SnO2 nanowires have been prepared using the active carbon reaction with the fine SnO2 powder at low temperature (700 °C). These nanowires show rectangular cross-section, with their widths ranging from 10 to 50 nm. Branched nanowires with definite included angle are also observed in these products. The morphology and microstructure of the single crystalline SnO2 nanowires and the branched nanowires are characterized by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), selective area electron diffraction (SAED) and Raman spectrum. In addition, the possible growth mechanism of the SnO2 nanowires and branched nanowires is also discussed.

Abstract:The single-crystalline β-wollastonite (β-CaSiO3) nanowires were prepared via a simple hydrothermal method, in the absence of any template or surfactant using cheap and simple inorganic salts as raw materials. Xonotlite [Ca6(Si6O17)(OH)2] nanowires were first obtained after hydrothermal treatment at a lower temperature of 200°C for 24h, and after being calcinated at 800°C for 2h, xonotlite nanowires completely transformed into β-wollastonite nanowires and the wire-like structure was preserved. The synthesized β-wollastonite nanowires had a diameter of 10–30nm, and a length up to tens of micrometers, and the single-crystalline monoclinic parawollastonite structured β-wollastonite was identified by XRD with the space group of P21/a and cell constants of a=15.42Å, b=7.325Å, c=7.069Å and β=95.38°. A possible growth mechanism of β-wollastonite nanowires was also proposed. The advantages of this method for the nanowire synthesis lie in the high yield, low temperature and mild reaction conditions, which will allow large-scale production at low cost.

Abstract:Strontium carbonate nanowires that grow along the a axis were synthesized in large scale through simple hydrothermal approach for the first time. The aspect ratio of the product is more than 1000. Dendritic nanocrystals were also generated at low temperatures. Moreover, this method is feasible to be applied in the synthesis of barium carbonate nanowires.

Abstract:A template-assisted assembly technique has been used to synthesize magnetic metal nanowire arrays. Fe, Co, Ni nanowires are fabricated using direct-current electrodeposition in the pores of anodic alumina membranes. The morphology and the crystal structure of the samples are characterized by field-emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray diffractometer. The results indicate that Fe, Co, and Ni nanowires all have face-centered cubic (FCC) structure and a preferred orientation along the [110] direction. The ability to prepare well-defined orientation growth of magnetic metal nanowires with FCC structure opens up new opportunities for both fundamental studies and nanodevice applications.

Abstract:Cobalt oxide (CO3O4) nanotubes were synthesized by calcining cobalt nanowires embedded in an anodic alumina template (AAT) in air. The morphologies and phases of the nanowires/nanotubes were studied by transmission electron microscope (TEM) and x-ray diffraction (XRD) respectively. A hypothesis of the tube formation process is presented and illustrated by experimental results. According to the experimental results, it is concluded that competition between the oxidation and the evaporation of cobalt nanocrystals plays a crucial role in the formation of such tube-like nanostructures Of CO3O4.

Abstract:Novel SrCO3 architectures were prepared by a facile aqueous solution route at room temperature using SrCl2, Na2CrO4, and NaOH as the starting reaction reagents and distilled water as the solvent. The synthesized products were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, selected-area electron diffraction and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. The SrCO3 architectures are in dandelion-like and flower-like morphologies with diameters of 5-10 mu m and composed of numerous well-aligned single-crystalline nanorods of 20-40 nm in diameter and 1-2 mu m in length. It is found that the morphology of the final products is strongly dependent on the experimental parameters, such as the concentration of aqueous NaOH solution and the reaction temperature. Various controlled synthetic experiments indicate that the growth process of SrCO3 architectures involves the growth of single-crystalline SrCrO4 nanowires, the formation of CO32- ions through the reaction between CO, cas from air and aqueous NaOH solution, and finally the formation of SrCO3 architectures through the reaction between SrCrO4 and CO32- ions controlled by the difference of the solubility product. In addition, a "rod to dumbbell to sphere" mechanism is proposed for the formation of the SrCO3 architectures.
Preparation and Structure of Boron Carbide Nanowires

Abstract:To obtain boron carbide nanowire, the mixture of carbon nanotubes and boron powder is heated to 1000 similar to 1100 degreesC for 30 similar to 60 min. The results of transmission electronic microscopy examination show that most of the carbon nanotube in our sample transfer into straight boron carbide nanowire. The structure of the nanowire is studied by the selected area electronic diffraction (SAED) and HRTEM, which shows that most of the nanowire is B4C nanowire. There is a nickel particle at the end of some boron carbide nanowires. The nickel particles come from the catalyst encapsulated in the hollow of the carbon nanotube. The growing mechanism of the boron carbide nanowire is discussed. Carbon nanotube acts as template for the growth of boron carbide nanowire. During the reaction, boron atoms replace some sites of the carbon in the nanotube, resulting in reconstructing the crystal of the nanotube and mending the defects in the carbon nanotube.

Abstract:Uniform Co3O4 nanowires with diameters of similar to 80 nm and lengths of 10 - 20 mu m have been prepared by a hydrothermal reaction and sequential decomposition of the intermediate product. Transmission electron microscopy characterization and selected-area electron diffraction patterns show that the nanowires elongate along the [ 110] direction. The amount of CO(NH2)(2) employed and the heating rate of calcination have a key effect on the morphology of the product. In addition, analysis of the optical properties indicates a blue shift of the bandgaps and reveals the semiconductive nature of the products.

Abstract:A template-free method via self-assembly process under a magnetic field was applied for the first time to prepare cobalt nanowires with uniform linear morphology. Cobalt nanowires with an average length of 40µm and diameter of 500nm were synthesized at 80°C by a hydrothermal process in which an external 15mT magnetic field was applied. It is found that an external magnetic field can make cobalt wires one-dimensionally self-assemble with their easy magnetic axes aligned along the magnetic line of force, leading to the formation of polycrystalline cobalt nanowires. This study provides a new and facile synthesis route to prepare cobalt nanowires with a great potential for industrial applications.

Abstract:A simple and effective approach to the aqueous phase synthesis of crystalline silver nanorods and nanowires is demonstrated, using which their diameters and spect ratios can be effectively controlled. The synthesis involves a template-less and non-seed process to high-quality nanoparticles, which is low-cost and proceeds at moderate temperatures. The nanorods and nanowires were synthesized by the reduction of silver nitrate with tri-sodium citrate in the presence of sodium dodecylsulfonate. The concentration of tri-sodium citrate plays a critical role while sodium dodecylsulfonate, as a capping agent, only plays an assistant role in controlling the diameters and aspect rations of the products. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and selected-area electron diffraction (SAED) investigations show that the silver nanocrystals are generated with a twinned crystalline structure. We also put forward a primary experimental model to shed light on their growth mechanisms.
