Abstract:This paper presents a novel rotor position detection method for sensorless control of magnetic-geared permanent-magnet brushless motor. Instead of use of traditional position sensor such as encoder and resolver, two special sensor windings are installed in the stator slots to replace the position sensors. A magnetic-geared permanent-magnet brushless motor has been designed and simulated to verify the validity of the proposed method. The result shows that this novel rotor position detection method is compact, effective and it can be used for sensorless control of magnetic-geared permanent-magnet brushless motor.

Abstract:A novel starting method of the brushless DC (BLDC) motors without position sensor for electric vehicles (EV) is proposed, including detecting of rotor position at standstill and a start-up method to accelerate the rotor up to a certain speed where the conventional position sensorless control methods based on the back EMF could work effectively. The whole starting procedure is accompanied with rotor position estimation, which can avoid the temporary reverse rotation and the starting failure of electric vehicles. The principle of the estimation is based on the variation of the current response caused by the magnetic saturation of the stator core of BLDC motor when the current flows along the magnetic axis. Further more, specific strategies of starting torque optimization and noise reduction are developed to start electric vehicles quickly and smoothly. This method is implemented with only one current sensor at the DC bus of the inverter and a low-cost general-purpose microcontroller, which becomes a simple, compact, low-cost, and effective solution for sensorless BLDC motors in the field of electric vehicles. It is demonstrated experimentally that a rapid and stable starting can be achieved by the proposed method.

Abstract:Rotor position sensors are eliminated in a rotor position detection method developed for sensorless,brushless DC motor drives.This method directly extracts the true back electromotive force(EMF) zero-crossing point by detecting the voltage difference between the floating phase terminal and the midpoint in the DC link.The commutation signal of the floating phase is obtained by lagging the back EMF zero-crossing point 30°.The method provides good motor performance over a wide speed range,especially at lower speeds.Experimental results from a prototype brushless DC motor verify the analytical results and confirm the validity of the method.

Abstract:A dual mode control method of brushless DC motor(BLDCM) either with position sensor or sensorless was presented.The controller worked with position sensor under normal condition,but it would switch to the sensorless mode automatically once the position sensor was broken down or the signal wire got disconnected.The mode tran-sition technology and sensorless rator position detecting technology were mainly discussed.Under the sensorless mode,by using short pulse test method based on the magnetic saturation effect of the stator iron and the maximum probability method,the position of the rator still or at low speed could be located.By using the back EMF zero-crossing point detecting method,the rator's position could be located at higher speed.

Abstract:A novel rotor position detection method was presented in this paper for sensorless brushless DC motor used in electric bicycles drive. In high speed,the back electromotive force zero-crossing point can be directly extracted by detecting the voltage difference between the virtual mid point and the mid point in the DC link. In low speed,the true back electromotive force zero-crossing point can be extracted by detecting the voltage difference between the virtual mid point and the low point of the DC link. The commutation signal can be obtained by delaying the back EMF zero-crossing point 30o electric degrees. This method can extend motor's speed range. The proposed method is not sensitive to switching noise,so no filtering is required. The principle of the detection method is described in detail,and some experimental results are shown to verify the feasibility of the method.

Abstract:Compared with the position sensor control, sensorless control avoids a lot of defects caused by the position sensor, at the same time makes the system more stability and stronger anti-interference performance, it has more advantages and meets control field's requirements better in the future, it has gradually become a hotspot in the brushless DC motor control field. The rotor position detection has been a very critical research in the brushless DC motor sensorless control. In this paper, a new type of rotor position detection method is proposed, which is based on the principle and mathematical model of a brushless DC motor after the analysis of advantages and disadvantages of the back EMF principle of zero-detection and the method of the back-EMF superposition, which means a combination of the method of the two rotor position detection, as above. This method neither need a delay of 30° nor require a depth filter, the hardware circuit is also simple and there is no need to compensate for the phase shift. Then, the frequency of the detection signal is three times of fundamental wave frequency in this method and the detection signal is easier to detect when the motor running at low speed, which expand the applicable speed range of the electric motor. This paper analyzes the principle and commutation logic of the rotor position detection method, it come up with a conclusion that the stagnation point of the three BEMF superposition derivative is the commutation points of the stator windings, and it uses the method of the back-EMF zero crossings to determine the current conduction state. The simulation model of the brushless DC motor's control system is established in MATLAB /Simulink it uses speed and current double close loop PI control. The result shows that the method is correct and feasible, it can get the right rotor position signal and control motor commutation correctly, the method can achieve the control of brushless DC motor without position sensor, and it can provide a reference for further research.

Abstract:The detection of the initial position for a sensorless surface-mounted permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (PMLSM) is difficult because it has no salience. The purpose of this work is the development of an estimation method of initial position for surface-mounted PMLSM without a position sensor. The principle of the estimation is based on low frequency voltage injection. The amplitude and phase of the voltage is controllable. When a rotating voltage vector is injected to the motor at standstill, there is a microinching when the voltage phase is line to the direct axis of the motor. Then the current will decrease due to the back electromotive force (EMF). The initial mover position is identified by this change. The method can be performed without motor parameters and the additional hardware. Simulations and experiments show that the initial mover position can be estimated at standstill by using the optimal voltage vector, and that the PMLSM can start smoothly.

Abstract:In this paper, the author introduces a new rotor position detecting method for the sensorless control of brushless DC motor (BLDCM). It applies a new circuit to get fundamental wave from three phase terminal voltage. A special switched capacitor filter is designed to achieve constant delay 90 electrical degrees. Since the phase lag is not related to the speed of the rotor, it needn't phase compensation. The filtered signal can be converted to six commutation signals for BLDCM just through zero-crossing comparator and decoder, so the detection circuit is simplified. The hardware-implemented system has low cost and high reliability, which is suitable for oil well detecting.

Abstract:Aiming at rotor position detection of brushless DC motor (BLDCM), a sensorless control method based on PWM_ON_PWM modulation was proposed. Back electromotive force (BEMF) was obtained directly from the synthesized voltages produced by operational circuits, and the phase delay problem caused by low pass filters was avoided in this way. By combining an existing BEMF detection method based on line terminal voltage differences, steady measurement of rotor position was realized by switching between the two BEMF detection methods in different rotor speed regions. Simulation and experiments prove that rotor position can be detected effectively in wide speed range without phase delay problem. It is proved to have advantages including the elimination of diode freewheeling current of floating phases and low switching loss.

Abstract:Permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) are widely used in servo systems, and many methods have been proposed to solve the critical problem of detecting the rotor position in real time. However, existing methods are not suitable for the detection of initial rotor position for surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motors (SPMSM). A simple and highly accurate method utilizing an incremental encoder is presented. By applying certain current vectors, monitoring the direction of motor's rotation, and changing the next applied current vectors, the initial rotor position can be obtained.

Abstract:In this paper, a new rotor position detecting method for the sensorless control of brushless DC motor (BLDCM) is introduced. It obtains the phase back EMF signal from the motor terminal voltage by properly choosing the PWM and sensing strategy directly and needn't the motor neutral point voltage information. The paper analyzes both the steady-state of PWM on the high side modulator mode which doesn't consider the parasitic capacitance Coes in the switches and the transient-state of PWM on the high side modulator mode which considers the parasitic capacitance Coes in the switches in detail. The experimental results verify that the proposed method is not sensitive to switching noise, no filtering is required, and good motor performance is achieved within a wide speed range.

Abstract:Permanent magnet (PM) brushless DC motors (BLDCM) have the advantages of high power density, high efficiency, simple structure and high reliability. BLDCM can be categorized into either trapezoidal back-electromotive (EMF) motor type, or sinusoidal back-EMF motor. There are typically two BLDCM control methods: One is six step control method which is easy to realize with simple hardware, the other is field oriented control (FOC) method which has better control performance. This paper compares quantitatively the characterization between these two BLDC control methods, with respect to torque ripple and power losses. Theoretical analysis and simulation studies are presented to illustrate their advantages and disadvantages. Experimental verification is conducted using a 48V, 4-pole, 4500RPM BLDC motor.

Abstract:Permanent magnet traction motor has the advantages of high efficiency, high power density, high torque density and quick dynamic response, which has been widely used in the traction field of electric vehicle. The high-performance control of permanent magnet traction motor depends on accurate rotor position information, which is usually obtained by using mechanical position sensors such as hall sensor, encoder and rotary transformer. However, the traditional mechanical sensor has the disadvantages of high cost, large volume and poor anti-interference ability, which limits the application of permanent magnet motor. The sensorless control technology is an effective way to solve the above-mentioned problem. Firstly, the sensorless control techniques of permanent magnet motor are classified. The sensorless control techniques of permanent magnet motor for rotor initial position, zero-low speed range, medium-high speed range and full speed range are deeply described and compared. Finally, the development trend of sensorless control technology of permanent magnet traction motor is prospected.

Abstract:As BLDCM position sensor has the shortcomings of size, cost and the manufacturing technology, in this paper, electrodes winding back EMF signal detecting the back EMF zero point is used to acquire the motor rotor signal. The BLDCM position sensor control strategies is analyzed, low-power controller has been developed by using chip ML4425, in order to improve the current volatile problem under the start-up and load disturbance situation, the speed and the current dual-closure are achieved by a simple differential circuit. And the prototype was tested, test results show that the controller has good working properties.

Abstract:The objective of this paper is to present a comparative and quantitative study on three hall effect sensorless circuit configurations in permanent magnet (PM) brushless dc motor drives, along with four practical pulse width modulation (PWM) techniques. PM brushless direct current (BLDC) motor mathematical model, principles of operation, measurement circuit and logic configurations for three back electromotive force (EMF) zero crossing detection methods, as well as theoretical analysis on various PWM patterns are described. Their performance evaluation on waveform quality, rotor position tracking capability, and torque ripple impact are quantified as functions of motor speed and load variation. Digital time domain simulation models are established with the closed current and speed loops for the evaluation. Experimental results without using any hall effect sensors fully validate the theoretical and simulation findings.

Abstract:To improve the efficiency of detection of BEMF Zero-crossing for the sensorless control of BLDCM, the paper firstly analyses the practical problems of the method, with that, the detection of the free phase by detecting phase current was presented and a filter for reducing the high frequency disturbance of PWM was designed. In order to eliminate the phase shift of the filter, an estimate circuit of compensating phase shift, including software flow char, was proposed, this circuit can also be used to detecting BEMF Zero-crossing. Finally the experimental result shows those works are effectual.

The article presented research of without speed and position sensor control for brushless DC motor, including brushless DC motor mathematical model, Back-EMF detection principle and starting position detection method, and designed a hardware control system based dedicated digital signal processor (DSP).
