Abstract:This paper discribes test results of an industrial demonstration plant using ash agglomeration fluid bed for gasification of pulverized coal.Use of the fluidization technology in the presence of oxygen steam mixture as a promotor in the engineering that deals well with establishment of fluid bed,dedusting and slag discharge at elevated temperatures,application of high temperature resistant valves and abrasion resistant refractories,and recovery of waste heat.Compared with fixed bed gasification process,the cost per tone of ammonia can be reduced by 172 Yuan,resulting in better economic and environmental benefits.

Abstract:In view of troublesome problems influencing upon the safety of lowgrade bituminous coal firing boilers with hot air for sending pulverized coal and centralized allocatioin of the primary air, such as firecarrying in the primary air jet orifice, and slagging on the waterwall in zone of burners etc., occured after enhancement of volatile and heat value in the coal, a scheme for solving the said problems by admixing exhaust gas has been put forward. The results of design calculation combined with typical boilers, as well as test and study on the admixer of exhaust gas and hot air show that the exhaust gas can be admixed with hot air in a large proportional range, making the implementation of the said scheme to be possible.

Abstract:Based on the sludge drying and incineration project in a 300MW coal-fired power plant boiler,an experimen- tal study of the sludge drying system and the influence of sludge & coal blending was launched. The disc dryer's ther- mal efficiency drawn through the material energy balance,was 74. 96%. And the energy consumption of each part of the drying system was analyzed. By contrast the component characteristics of the sludge & coal blending fuel with the design coal,the influence of the mixed fuel on the pulverized coal boiler was analyzed. The results showed that there was no significant influence on the boiler at the blending ratio less than 3%.

Abstract:Practical application shows that a coal gasification-smokeless combustion technology can be used to realize the coal combustion with a high efficiency and low pollution in a common used layer coal-fired industrial boilers. The technology consists of a thin coal bed gasification with a lower-speed primary air and a secondary air from a multi-orifices and multi-stages jet stagger-arranged in upper furnace to provide the space combustion. An experiment for comparing such a new fashion combustion with the traditional hand-operated combustion boiler has been made at the same boiler of 0.5 t/h capacity resulting in that the new fashion promotes the thermal efficiency as much as 10%, and the relative inner collection efficiency for solids in furnace reaches 96.9%, and presents a striking contrast with the bellowing smoke status of the hand-fired fashion, and after all, provides a new path to develop the coal-fired industrial boiler design.

Abstract:The aim of this study is to develop a mathematical model for coal combustion in traveling grate boilers. The model contains a “bed-model” part and a “furnace-model” part. Within the description of the “bed-model”, a non-isothermal particle model is proposed, in order to accommodate temperature gradients within combusting particles. The “bed-model” is then coupled with the “furnace-model” based on an integrated grid. To verify the model, an experimental fixed-bed furnace has been set up to simulate combustion in a real chain grate stoker. Concentrations of gas species at the bed surface have been measured. Predicted results are in reasonable agreement with experimental data. This has provided a basis for studying the effect of major parameters influencing boiler behavior, for optimizing combustion conditions. These factors have included the excess air ratio and particle diameter. The results show that there is an optimum excess air ratio required for optimized combustion and that smaller coal particle sizes (in the range of 0.02–0.04m) enhance ignition and burnout properties of the fuel. It appears essential during operation to monitor and control excess air ratios and particle diameters carefully controlled.

Abstract:The design and performance of a demonstrating 35 T/H circulating fluidized bed boiler firing stone coal are reported. The boiler features low recycle rate, unique downward gas exit cyclones in the medium temperature region between the superheater and the economizer to reduce the size of the cyclone separators, and to allow a more compact reversed U general arrangement. Based on computer-aided testing, some different anti-erosion components are employed to maintain acceptable lifetime of the heating surfaces. The boiler demonstrates high combustion efficiency and low emissions with staged combustion.

Abstract:Abstract Coal-fired power generation is the main source of CO 2 emission in China. To solve the problems of declined efficiency and increased costs caused by CO 2 capture in coal-fired power systems, an integrated gasification fuel cell (IGFC) power generation technology was developed. The interaction mechanisms among coal gasification and purification, fuel cell and other components were further studied for IGFCs. Towards the direction of coal gasification and purification, we studied gasification reaction characteristics of ultrafine coal particles, ash melting characteristics and their effects on coal gasification reactions, the formation mechanism of pollutants. We further develop an elevated temperature/pressure swing adsorption rig for simultaneous H 2 S and CO 2 removals. The results show the validity of the Miura-Maki model to describe the gasification of Shenhua bituminous coal with a good fit between the predicted DTG curves and experimental data. The designed 8–6–1 cycle procedure can effectively remove CO 2 and H 2 S simultaneously with removal rate over 99.9%. In addition, transition metal oxides used as mercury removal adsorbents in coal gasified syngas were shown with great potential. The techniques presented in this paper can improve the gasification efficiency and reduce the formation of pollutants in IGFCs.

Abstract:Three dominating gasifiters, Texaco, Dow and multiple-nozzle opposed type gasifiters were introduced and compared in the present paper in the term of the technological process and internal flow field distribution. Relative were analyzed for different type gasifiters and based on which, a new type coal-water-slurry (CWS) gasifiter were designed. The numerical simulation at cold state and the experiment data indicated that the gasifiter have many merits, such as fairly distributed flow field, long retention time of the particle and high content of the effective gas of the raw coal gas at outlet.

Abstract:Against the increasingly serious pollutant emissions from coal-fired utility boilers,this paper puts forward the integrative removing technology for flue gas pollutants emission from coal-fired power plants. In this technology,the removal of each single pollutant depends on the synergistic effect of two or more equipments.Integrative design and layout are necessary for the existing environmental protection equip-ments.The practical engineering application shows that,the synergistic integration of flue gas pollutants removal technology is an effective way to achieve ultra-low flue gas pollutants emission from coal-fired power plants.
Novel technology - multi-generation system combined coal gasification and combustion process

Abstract:For clean and high efficient utilization of coal, a new system has been developed at the Institute for Thermal Power Engineering, Zhejiang University. The coal is first gasified, the fuel gas produced is used for industrial process, town gas or fuel for gas turbine. The residue char from gasifier is burned in a circulating fluidized bed combustor to generate steam for a number of purposes including power generation, process heating, refrigeration, and air conditioning. The ash is used to produce construction materials. Metals, such as vanadium and uranium, can be extracted if the content of the metal in coal is high. The very important part of the system is the combined sub-system of gasifier and combustor. A series of fundamental experiments have been finished. The results show that the system can produce gas and steam simultaneously and the gas heating value is 10000-14000 Kj/Nm3, and the fuel conversion is over 90%. Furthermore, the system has the advantages of low emission, low investment and high economical efficiency. A demonstration system has been constructed at Yangzhong Thermal Power Plant in Jiangshu Province. It can produce 3500Nm3/H dry gas and 75T/H steam. The CFB Boiler has already entered commercial operation since April, 1995. The operation results show it has high efficiency, good fuel adaptability, and high load turndown ratio.

Abstract:The gasifier is one of the most important equipments in IGCC system,and it closely related with the others,so the study of the gasifier characteristics is based on the whole IGCC system.The system model of 200 MW IGCC demonstration project was established using Thermoflex software firstly,from the view of the system,the IGCC systems with different gasification parameters(coal-water slurry concentration,gasification pressure,O/C ratio and the carbon conversion)were calculated,the effects on the gasification result were analyzed.It shows that the coal-water slurry concentration and the O/C ratio have great effect on the gasification result.

Abstract:With the increasing energy demand, it is essential to improve the utilization of traditional energy sources. Coal is still the mainstay of the Chinese energy market, especially in power generation. The IGCC offers significant advantages in terms of power efficiency and environmental protection. However, conventional IGCC uses oxygen as the gasification medium, posing serious economic challenges. To address this challenge, in this study, the overall system process for the IGCC systems using air-blown gasification is constructed by Aspen Plus. To explore the potential of the thermal performance of the air-blown gasification IGCC system, the operating parameters and process flows are improved. The energy and exergy analysis of the whole system using the advanced process is carried out and compared with the oxygen gasification IGCC. Optimal operating parameters and technical parameters are determined, and the gasifier is optimized. The results show that the system efficiency increased by 3.17%, and the exergy efficiency increased by 3.09%. Although the integrated gas turbine process does not offer obvious advantages, it is more compatible with the current gas turbine in terms of flow rate. The utilization of a high-pressure reheat gas turbine results in a 2.52% increase in system efficiency. The implementation of high-pressure reheat gas turbines and hot gas desulfurization can improve the thermal performance of the system. The air-blown gasification IGCC with this process has the highest power supply efficiency of 52.80%. It presents an improvement of 3.69% compared with oxygen gasification. The exergy loss in the cooling and cleaning module and the gas turbine module is significantly reduced. The heat efficiency of the air-blown gasification IGCC is 3.60% higher, and the effective energy in the system is fully utilized. It provides some heuristic ideas for the clean and efficient utilization of coal resources.

Abstract:Based on the analysis of realization conditions, formation mechanism and implementation approaches of flameless oxidation technology, a novel dry pulverized coal gasifier which is applicable to double-high coal was put forward. A test system for the pressurized coal gasifier was described, and the study processes and results of the test were given. The feasibility of flameless gasification inside the gasifier was validated from the gasification reaction images, which accord with the characteristic of flameless oxidation. The key gasification parameters were obtained from the measured temperature, the relations of viscosity and components of slag. Moreover, components of syngas and technical indexs were gained on the condition of the key gasification parameters in the gasifier. These results show that high efficiency gasification can be achieved on the gasifier, the desired objectives have been attained, and the experience has been accumulated for the subsequent pilot test. © 2010 Chin. Study of the Gasification Characteristics of a New Type Dry Pulverized-coal GFB (Gas Fluidized Bed) Gasifier

Abstract:According to the idea of the flameless oxidation technology, proposed was a new type dry pulverized coal GFB (gas fluidized bed) gasifier. By using the experimental and numerical calculation method, studied was the in-furnace gasification reaction process of the pulverized coal with a high ash melting point. The test and simulation results have verified that the structure of the furnace can result in a uniform temperature field in the furnace, a remarkable drop of the in-furnace temperature gradient, realizing the basic reaction characteristics of the flameless oxidation technology, making the pulverized coal gasification reaction being realized in a space. In the meantime, it can lead to an increase of the in-furnace mean temperature, an enhancement of both the gasification strength and the temperature level at the slag discharging port, thus meeting the requirements for gasification of various coal ranks with a high ash melting point.

Abstract:In order to understand the combustion characteristics of biomass, a detailed comparison with coal was made. There are many differences between biomass and coal in combustion characteristics. The burning rate of biomass is much higher than coal. The burning rate of biomass char is also higher than coal char. During biomass combustion, HCl, SO2 and NOx emissions mainly concentrate in volatile combustion stage, while CO2 emission mainly concentrates in char combustion stage. The slagging tendency of biomass ash is severer than coal ash and the adhesive force of biomass ash is higher. However, the wearing tendency of biomass ash is minor. Aiming at the particularity of biomass fuels, this paper briefly introduces the design of biomass hot water boilers. On this basis, a 2.8 MW biomass hot water boiler was developed and tested under the loads of 1.7 MW and 2.8MW. The running results show that the carbon content of bottom slag significantly decreases as the load increases. The boiler efficiency is higher than 85% under both loads.
