Abstract:High-temperature tensile deformation characteristics of a 00Cr25Ni19Mn3Mo7NCe super austenitic stainless steel (SASS) at deformation temperatures of 1150 °C, 1200 °C and 1250 °C and a strain rate of 0.1 s–1 are systematically investigated. Moreover, the effect of angle between solidification direction of columnar crystals and loading direction (namely 0° and 90° samples) on hot ductility of SASS is studied in detail. The results reveal that both samples demonstrate similar tensile strength; however, the elongation after fracture and reduction of area in the 0° sample are found to be basically higher than those of the 90° sample under same deformation conditions, implying that the hot ductility of the 0° sample is better than that of the 90° sample. During uniaxial tensile deformation, the original grain boundaries of the 0° sample are parallel to the loading direction, whereas those of the 90° sample are perpendicular to the loading direction. For the 0° sample, the number of DRX grains formed at each deformation temperature is similar and small, weakening the softening effect and ability to hinder crack propagation. With the increase in temperature, the microvoid formation rate of the sample increases, and thus the damage evolution process is accelerated, resulting in the decreased hot ductility. While for the 90° sample, the hot ductility initially increases with the increase in temperature and reaches the maximum value at 1200 °C, followed by a decrease at 1250 °C. A relatively large number of DRX grains are formed at 1200 °C, which improves the softening effect and ability to hinder crack propagation of the sample. As such, the hot ductility is improved.
