Abstract:We consider conic inequality systems of the type$F(x)\ge_K 0$, with approximate solution $x_0$ associated to a parameter $\tau$,where $F$ is a twice Fréchet differentiable function between Hilbert spaces $X$ and $Y$, and$\ge_K$ is the partial order in $Y$ defined by anonempty convex (not necessarily closed) cone $K\subseteq Y$.We prove that, under the suitable conditions,the system $F(x)\ge_K 0$is solvable, and the ratio of the distance from $x_0$ to the solution set $S$ over the distance from $F(x_0)$ to the cone $K$ has anupper bound given explicitlyin terms of $\tau$ and $x_0$. We show that the upper bound is sharp.Applications to analytic function inequality/equality systems on Euclidean spaces are given,and the corresponding results of Dedieu [ SIAM J. Optim. , 11 (2000), pp. 411--425] are extended and significantly improved.

Abstract:Using the result of the error estimate of the simple extended Newton method established in the present paper for solving abstract inequality systems, we study the error bound property of approximate solutions of abstract inequality systems on Banach spaces with the involved function F being Fréchet differentiable and its derivative F^' satisfying the center-Lipschitz condition (not necessarily the Lipschitz condition) around a point x 0 . Under some mild conditions, we establish results on the existence of the solutions, and the error bound properties for approximate solutions of abstract inequality systems. Applications of these results to finite/infinite systems of inequalities/equalities on Banach spaces are presented and the error bound properties of approximate solutions of finite/infinite systems of inequalities/equalities are also established. Our results extend the corresponding results in [ 3 , 18 , 19 ].

Abstract:The exterior boundary value problems of linear elastic equations are considered. A sequence of approximations to the exact boundary conditions at an artificial boundary is given. Then the original problem is reduced to a boundary value problem on a bounded domain. Furthermore, a finite element approximation of this problem and optimal error estimates are obtained. Finally, a numerical example shows the effectiveness of this method.

Abstract:This paper aims at approximation of functions by linear integral operators on variable exponent spaces associated with a general exponent function on a domain of a Euclidean space. Under a log-Hölder continuity assumption of the exponent function, we present quantitative estimates for the approximation and solve an open problem raised in our earlier work. As applications of our key estimates, we provide high orders of approximation by quasi-interpolation type and linear combinations of Bernstein type integral operators on variable exponent spaces. We also introduce K-functionals and moduli of smoothness on variable exponent spaces and discuss their relationships and applications.

Abstract:Let {fm; m∈N} be a sequence of functions from [0, ∞) to a Banach space E. We give a new and essential condition on fm, which is weaker than the usual “local Lipschitz continuity” condition, ensuring that the convergence of fm is equivalent to the convergence of their Laplace transforms. This enables us to establish new approximation theorems for r-times integrated semigroups on E, for all r⩾0. As a consequence, an open problem for the convergence of integrated semigroups on the whole space E, is solved in essence. Moreover, we present an application to nonhomogeneous Cauchy problems.

Abstract:We consider universal approximations of symmetric and anti-symmetric functions, which are important for applications in quantum physics, as well as other scientific and engineering computations. We give constructive approximations with explicit bounds on the number of parameters with respect to the dimension and the target accuracy epsilon. While the approximation still suffers from the curse of dimensionality, to the best of our knowledge, these are the first results in the literature with explicit error bounds for functions with symmetry or anti-symmetry constraints.

Abstract:In this paper, we will investigate the approximations of inverse moments for double-indexed weighted sums of random variables under sub-linear expectations. The asymptotic approximations of inverse moments and the convergence rate of approximations are established under the meaning of upper expectation Eˆ and the lower expectation εˆ, respectively. Moreover, we carry out some simulations to verify the validity of our theoretical results. The results obtained in the paper improve and extend the corresponding ones of Yang et al. [24] from independent random variables in the classical probability space to END random variables in sub-linear expectation space.

Abstract:In this paper, the boundary value problems of partial differential equations on unbounded domains are considered. A series of approximate boundary conditions are given. Using the coupling of finite element method and boundary element method, the numerical solutions of original problems are obtained, the computation of singular integrals is avoided in this method. Abstract:Two sets of closed analytic functions are proposed for the approximate calculus of the complete elliptic integrals of the 1st and 2nd kinds in the normal form due to Legendre, their expressions having a remarkable simplicity and accuracy. The special usefulness of the newly proposed formulas consists in that they allow performing the analytic study of variation of the functions in which they appear, using the derivatives (they being expressed in terms of elementary functions only, without any special function; this would mean replacing one difficulty by another of the same kind). Comparative tables of the approximate values so obtained and the exact ones, reproduced from special functions tables are given (vs. the elliptic integrals modulus k). It is to be noticed that both sets of formulas are given neither by spline nor by regression functions, but by asymptotic expansions, the identity with the exact functions being accomplished for the left domain’s end. As for their simplicity, the formulas in k / k' do not need any mathematical table (are purely algebraic). As for their accuracy, the 2nd set, although more intricate, gives more accurate values than the 1st one and extends itself more closely to the right domain’s end.
