Abstract:Purpose:To evaluate the influence of heart rate on image quality of 16-slice CT coronary angiography. Methods:There were 145 patients with known or suspected CAD(39 women,106 men, mean age 55.07years±11.17)who underwent 16-slice CT coronary angiography with retrospective electrocardiographic gating.Data sets were reconstructed in 5% steps from 40% to 90% of R-R interval.Fifteen coronary segments were analyzed in each patient according to American Heart Association classification. The segments with diameter≥ 2 millimeter were included in final analysis. Results:Average heart rate was 65.34±5.62 beats per minute(bpm).Diagnostic image quality(score≤2)was attained in 1341 of 1755 segments. There were significant correlations between mean heart rate and image quality overall(r=0.583,P0.001)and for each coronary artery.Image quality scores of 1-2 could be achieved with heart rates of less than 64.6bpm.Conclusion:There is an inverse relationship between heart rate and 16-slice CT coronary angiography image quality.Motion-free coronary angiograms can be obtained with 16-slice CT scanners in patients with heart rates of less than 64.6bpm.
