Abstract:Studied here is an initial-boundary-value problem for the “good” Boussinesq equation on the half line. It is shown that this initial-boundary-value problem, when the initial-boundary-data satisfy certain compatible conditions, is well-posed in the L2-based Sobolev space Hs(R+) for s>12. In addition, the mapping that associated to appropriate initial-boundary-data the corresponding solution is analytic as a function between appropriate Banach spaces.

The existence and uniqueness of low reguality solution to the initial-boundary-value problem is proved when the initial-boundary data ( f, h, h 1 , h 2 ) belong to the product space H^s ( ℝ^ + ) × H^s - 1( ℝ^ + ) × H^s2 + 14( ℝ^ + ) × H^s2 + 14( ℝ^ + ) with 0 ⩽ s ⩽12 . The analyticity of the solution mapping between the initial-boundary-data and the solution space is also considered.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the partial regularity of the solutions for the three-dimensional Boussinesq equations. We first prove a criterion of local Hölder continuous of the suitable weak solutions of the Boussinesq equations, and show that one-dimensional Hausdorff measure of the singular point set is zero. Secondly, we present a local uniform gradient estimate on the suitable weak solutions and assert that the local behavior of the solution can be dominated by some scaled quantities, such as the scaled local L3-norm of the velocity. Besides, when the initial data v0 and θ0 decay sufficiently rapidly at ∞, the distribution of the regular point set of the suitable weak solutions is also considered. Based on it, one can find that MHD equations are more similar to Navier–Stokes equations than Boussinesq equations. Finally, we give a local regularity criterion of the suitable weak solutions near the boundary.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to the theoretical and numerical investigation of the initial boundary value problem for a system of equations used for the description of waves in coastal areas, namely, the Boussinesq-Abbott system in the presence of topography. We propose a procedure that allows one to handle very general linear or nonlinear boundary conditions. It consists in reducing the problem to a system of conservation laws with nonlocal fluxes and coupled to an ODE. This reformulation is used to propose two hybrid finite volumes/finite differences schemes of first and second order respectively. The possibility to use many kinds of boundary conditions is used to investigate numerically the asymptotic stability of the boundary conditions, which is an issue of practical relevance in coastal oceanography since asymptotically stable boundary conditions would allow one to reconstruct a wave field from the knowledge of the boundary data only, even if the initial data is not known.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the global well-posedness for the 3D Boussinesq equations. Firstly, we prove the global existence and uniqueness of the solution in critical space for small initial data. Then, aimed at the large initial data giving rise to global solution, we obtain a certain class of large solutions with initial data slowly varying in one direction. The proof relies on the special structure of the equation and some new refined estimates for the velocity and temperature.

Abstract:Initial-boundary value problems are considered for homogeneous parabolic systems with Dini-continuous coefficients and zero initial conditions in a semibounded plane domain with a nonsmooth lateral boundary admitting cusps, on which general boundary conditions with variable coefficients are given. A theorem on unique classical solvability of these problems in the space of functions that are continuous and bounded together with their first spatial derivatives in the closure of the domain is proved by applying the boundary integral equation method. A representation of the resulting solutions in the form of vector single-layer potentials is given.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to initial boundary value problems for quasilinear symmetric hyperbolic systems in a domain with characteristic boundary. It extends the theory on linear symmetric hyperbolic systems established by Friedrichs to the nonlinear case. The concept on regular characteristics and dissipative boundary conditions are given for quasilinear hyperbolic systems. Under some assumptions, an existence theorem for such initial boundary value problems is obtained. The theorem can also be applied to the Euler system of compressible flow.

Abstract:We consider boundary value problems for a nonlinear mass transfer model, which generalizes the classical Boussinesq approximation, under inhomogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions for the velocity and the substance's concentration. It is assumed that the leading coefficients of viscosity and diffusion and the buoyancy force in the model equations depend on concentration. We develop a mathematical apparatus for studying the inhomogeneous boundary value problems under consideration. It is based on using a weak solution of the boundary value problem and on the construction of liftings of the inhomogeneous boundary data. They remove the inhomogeneity of the data and reduce initial problems to equivalent homogeneous boundary value problems. Based on this apparatus we will prove the theorem of the global existence of a weak solution to the boundary value problem under study and establish important properties of the solution. In particular, we will prove the validity of the maximum principle for the substance's concentration. We will also establish sufficient conditions for the problem data, ensuring the local uniqueness of weak solutions.

Abstract:We deal with a linear hyperbolic differential operator of the second order on a bounded planar domain with a smooth boundary. We establish a well-posedness result in case where a mixed, Dirichlet-Neumann, condition is prescribed on the boundary. We focus on the case of a non-homogeneous Dirichlet data and a homogeneous Neumann one. The presented proof is based on a functional theoretical approach and on an approximation argument. Moreover, this work discuss an improvement of a result concerning the range of some operators related to the considered hyperbolic PDE yielding characterizations for the range space of these operators.

Abstract:We study a free boundary value problem of multidimensional unsteady potential Row equation. The problem is defined in a domain bounded by two conical surfaces, one is given, and other is to be determined. In self-similar coordinates the problem can be reduced to a free boundary value problem of an elliptic equation. Then the existence of the solution is proved by using partial hodograph transformation and nonlinear alternating iteration. This result indicates that the structure of the weak solution with discontinuity is stable under small perturbation of data.

Abstract:We consider initial–boundary value problems for homogeneous parabolic systems with coefficients satisfying the double Dini condition with zero initial conditions in a semibounded plane domain with nonsmooth lateral boundary. The method of boundary integral equations is used to prove a theorem on the unique classical solvability of such problems in the space of functions that are continuous together with their first spatial derivative in the closure of the domain. An integral representation of the obtained solutions is given. It is shown that the condition for the solvability of the posed problems considered in the paper is equivalent to the well-known complementarity condition.
