Abstract:In period of Qin Dynasty,some families were distributed in the area of Gansu,and these big clans had certain influence on Gansu history later on.This paper does not narrate its historical influence,but only criticizes of its clan name.

Abstract:This article researches evolution "collective name" of Taiwan's aborigines and existing problems from the Perspective of cultural differences.Historically,Taiwan's aborigines were "collectively" named as "Yi"(夷),"Fan [Fan]"(番[蕃])and "Gaoshas(shans)"(高砂[山]族).These names were general "symbol" which was imposed to Taiwan's aborigines who had complex content and cultural diversity by the outside world,especially on the Background of Chinese culture lacking a deep understanding on Taiwan's aboriginal communities.So they didn't reflect the own identity and cultural memory of aborigines of various ethnic groups,and they are not "ethnic title" in the strict sense.After Kangxi and Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty,it appeared "wild"(野)Fan and "assimilated"(化)Fan and "raw"(生)Fan and "cooked"(熟)Fan.In Japanese occupation era,it appeared "Gaoshas(shans)" and "Pingpu" aboriginal title.The above-mentioned two types of title only distinguished the extent of aborigines becoming Chinese,and didn't reflect the cultural differences between different ethnic groups,so we still can not get away from the errors of vague awareness and general summary.

Abstract:The clan name is peculiar to a people's identity,and has a rich historical and cultural heritage.Compiled in the early reign of Emperor Qianlong,the Complete Lineage Record of the Manchu Eight-banner Clan,strengthens communal self-awareness,and enhances the cohesion of the Manchu clan.It is a"code"admitted by Manchu tribes,and is also a foundation of the establishment of clan genealogy.Its compilation has also contributed to the compilation of various Manchu tribe lineage records.After numerous amendments,the"appointed"Manchurian lineage record,has the function of "paying respect to the ancestor ",being the basis of officer selection and litigation,banning the borrowing from Han custom,and proofreading and correcting.

Abstract:Before the years of Tong-zhi,Hui population occupied considerable proportion in certain counties of Shanxi-Gansu area,for example,the proportion of Hui population was close to or over 3 percent of all in certain counties of the cross-strait part of the Weihe River,and the proportion of Hui was even more than half in He state. However,on the whole region,the proportion of Hui population was low. Studies have shown that before the Tongzhi years,Shanxi Hui people accounted for about 1.5 percent of total population of the province,and Gansu Hui population was olny about 3 percent of the whole,so Hui people only accounted for 2.5 percent of the total population of the two provinces which was estimated to be no more than 8 million. This result was far from the generally agreed saying that there was a large Hui population in Shaanxi and Gansu provinces,especially Hui population was lager than Han in Gansu. The fact that the Hui population of Shanxi-Gansu area in Qing dynasty has been seriously exaggerated had a direct relationship with the northwest war in Tongzhi years.

Abstract:By studying the original governmental documents of Qing Dynasty,this paper reveals that there was the "Xi'an Province"(西安省),and researches the origins of its name and its geographic space.In the governmental documents of Qing,there was the "big Shaanxi"(大陕西),which covered the "small Shaanxi"(小陕西)and Gansu(甘肃),and the "small Shaanxi" was exactly "Xi'an Province".This paper also reveals the different names of Province Capital during Qing Dynasty in the governmental documents.

Abstract:Did the author of History of Han, the substantial ancestor of Chinese official history works, plagiarize his father's work or take advantage of the compilatory style of Sima Qian without his own originality This paper intends to clarify the truth of relevant individuals and events about History of Han so as to demonstrate it is the political environment and great events in Ban Gu's period that determined his historiographic orientation. However, it is against the traditional research on History of Han to argue that the process of its compilation was in cadence with Ban Gu's political ups and downs. Is this conclusion well-grounded This tentative opinion is open to discussion.

Abstract:Guifang was a strong state from the Shang Dynasty to the Western Zhou Dynasty.The problems about Guifang's location and the relation between Guifang and other tribes have been discussed for many years and many of them resolved.Only the problem about Guifang's race has not been mentioned.By analysis and bold verdict,I have put forward the view that Guifang and their descendants—Chidi are are from Indo-European race.This conclusion can promote the more profound research on Eastern and Western cultural intercommunication and ancient history of Shanxi Province.

Abstract:Due to a lack of statistical documentation about city population in the traditional literature. The methods of most previous studies in the past were focused on the personal experience and individual case. It is impossible for us to meet the needs of research and get reliable conclusions without new literature and new methods. The study of the Xuantong-Geographic-Questionnaire shows that the model of urban population hierarchy is not consistent with the city administrative level. It is impracticable to establish a complete sequence of historical city population by using traditional historical data. Trying to build the model of urban population hierarchy on the basis of the city administrative levels must be logically wrong.

Abstract:Looking through all the research works concerning current situations of rural China, we find both a theory of rebuilding and a theory of collapse; as to the functions of the Clan in village governance, we find that the theory can be affirmative, negative and neutral. Numerous and confused theories all come out, and till now, people still do not have a distinct understanding of the rebuilding of clans and the relationship between clan and village governance. This status can be explained by the short of research. Though more and more researchers have been conducted with fieldwork, and the study is becoming more standard and with more academic dialogue and accumulative senses, and most of them made case studies, there is an obvious lacking in comparison among cases, a lacking in sampling surveys in full scale; the researches lack of a definite analyzing frame and a standard for discussion, fall short of a deep and detailed monographic study, and short of varied angles of vision to material collection and analysis.

Abstract:Connecting the nationwide chaos in late Ming and early Qing,and followed by a long piping time of peace during the mid Qing,the middle period of Kangxi reign was an important era of the change of social cultural norms and the transition of national orders,and was a critical time of the transition of national etiquettes and the development of local clans.The construction of renowned clans in the middle period of Kangxi reign was the result of the interaction of family’s power amassment and specific social mechanisms behind their rises in a longer local history.The evolution of the structural transition of renowned family’s powers after the middle period of Kangxi reign guided to a great extent the direction of local clans’ cultural norms.The standardization and the orthodoxy of the construction of local clans,which didn’t depend entirely on the identity and status of the powerful figures in clan,had a lot with penetration process of clan ideology that state advocated and with the personal experience and learning sources of the clan construction initiator.

Abstract:In the Mid-Tang Dynasty,the An Lushan Rebellion led to the reorganization of political power and material resources,which generated the forces of a number of powerful military generals with their families who dramatically enlarged their status in Chang’an City,of which Guo Ziyi and his family were undoubtedly the most significant and reputational.Based on the newly discovered funerary inscriptions of the Guo’s family members,this article is intended to describe the mansions of this newly rising powerful family and outline their family history from post-An Lushan Rebellion to the Late-Tang Dynasty.Through a special investigation of the Guo’s family mansions in Qinren District,this article also provides more details about the internal conditions of family habitation in Chang’an City.

Abstract:Kuang Zhouyi's epitaph introduces in detail his family history but the records concerning the scholarly honour and official career of his father,Kuang Xun,are mistaken.According to records of imperial examinations,chorography,pedigree and personal works collection,we can conclude that it is Kuang Zhouyi's uncle,Kuang Cheng,not his father,that was awarded jinshi(a successful candidate in the highest imperial examinations) in the second year under the reign of Daoguang,the Qing Dyansty,and was appointed as Anchashi of Henan Province(a provincial official in old China roughly equivalent to today's chief prosecutor of a high court).The interview materials with Chen Julai,Kuang Zhouyi's son-in-law,imply that Kuang Zhouyi was an adopted child of Kuang Cheng.

Abstract:This article is a part of author's"On Lineage Ethos",a historical-authropoiogical study of Yixu Lineage in late imperial China,The author outlines historical facts of Yixu Lineage from late Song Dynasty to middle Republic of China in a combined perspective of structural analysis of traditional Chinese political systems and a consideration of local custom in Fujiau based on anthropological fieldwork and first-hand materials such as genealogy.The case of Yixu Lin- enge illustrates that cultural premise and social basis of lineage continuity in late imperial China turn out to be the patri- lineal concept and the basis of rural daily life and cultural accession in lineage village even though lineage property and country gentlemen's active roles play a decisive function in organizing lineages,.The lineage ethos originates from struc- tural necessity of Chinese political systems and lasting influence of Confucian elite culture functioning as the basis for hoth imperial rule and virtuous politics.

Abstract:Considering the status of Mei Cheng's Qi Fa, Sima Xiangru's Tianzi Youlie Fu and Yang Xiong's Ganquan Fu, historians of Classical Chinese Literature don't pay enough attention to Ban Gu's Liangdu Fu which can't be substituted in history. Liangdu Fu solves the conflicts between aesthetical taste and political-ethical concerns of traditional Da Fu, corrects its structural defects, embodies Ban Gu's high consciousness that determines the nature of Han-dynasty and the direction of Han Fu or Han Literature. Rather than the works above, Liangdu Fu does characterize Han Fu. So we should think highly of Liangdu Fu which is the landmark in the history of Han Fu.

Abstract:Based on reviewing the discovery of Early Qin Culture , this article discusses some recent re-search ,espcially from the view of archeology ,focusing on three subects :the origin of Qin clan ,the Tomb features of Early Qin Culture and the relationship between the Early Qin Culture and others .In conclu-sion ,as far as the unique burial rites and the combination of burial accessories reflect ,the Early Qin cul-ture has formed and developed by constantly absorbing and merging culture of Shang in the east ,Dongyi , Zhou in the west and Xirong ,which reveals the culture evolution is characterized by the interaction be-tween east and west in the Guangzhong Area and Center Plain since the Three Ancient Chinese Dynasties-Xia ,Shang and Zhou .

Abstract:According to Western mainstream theories, clan is regarded as the primitive organization, which will be replaced bythe man-made society organization. However, during past tow decades, a revival of clan in Chinese rural areas appears. This paper is based on deep survey of conditions of 10 villages, analyzing affects of clan on village government concerning every-day life, village site, administrative village and relationship among villages, etc. Our research shows that clan is playing dual roles in process of village government. It offers village government good service and assistance, fills government vacancy, and succeeds in avoiding serious disorder. And even collective consciousness of clan and its powerful organization is used as a means to resist infringement upon or deprivation of villagers' rights. On other hand, clan usually pursues use-its-strength-to-bully-the-weak sense for sake of its own narrow interests, preaches inequality of men and women, and has blind faith in superstition. So, we think, in appraisal of clan, it is one-sided to affirm everything or to negate everything. In order to construct new order of village government, it's of great importance to search for some new resources and new mechanism, though clan cannot be discarded.
